Chapter I’m going to work as your secretary

Adele and her Aunt Julia were there for just a few hours. While in the car, Adele thinks about the man and what he told her. She looked at her Aunt Julia, who was sound asleep and touched the driver.

“Don’t take me straight home. I’ll just tell you the place where you’ll take me after we have sent Aunt Julia home.” Adele’s request and the driver didn’t ask.

Adele’s next stop after she sent Aunt Julia is her sister’s workplace. She knows the restaurant is still open since the sky is not yet dark. She was curious what the man was trying to say about what he had spoken before or the words he had left her with. After all, they hadn’t met before, so the shady words he spoke to her perplexed her.

When she was standing in front of the restaurant, she spotted the man she was searching for, sitting at one of the tables inside, chatting with a man and a woman. As she approached, she noticed Hugo’s back and wondered why he was there, but she was even more shocked to find him leaning on the woman’s chair while the woman in the red dress softly nibbled his ear. She would have disregarded it if she had assumed it was Hugo’s cousin or a relative.

In her anger, because of what she saw, she ran to the table and pulled the woman’s hair. The woman shouted quickly and cried loudly because of the pain while Hugo was stopping Adele from attacking the woman. Another man pulls the woman away from her. After she let go of the woman’s hair, Hugo dragged her to the parking lot and plopped her.

“WHAT WAS THAT? CAN’T YOU SEE THAT I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MEETING?! DID YOU FOLLOW ME HERE?!” Hugo growled at her. She felt her heart pierced with glass because of what Hugo had done.

“NO! I DIDN’T!” the question shocked Adele, so she raised her voice. “I had a plan to go here and I just accidentally saw you with that slut woman!”

“YOU SHOULD NOT CARE!”

Hugo’s comments made Adele flinch. She didn’t expect Hugo to say that, but she persisted in arguing with him since she thought she was holding something that she entitled Hugo to.

“Aren’t you my fiancee?”

“Under contract.” Hugo’s response was straightforward. Adele stepped back even farther as Hugo answered, “I thought...”

Adele couldn’t finish what she was saying because the water in the corner of her eye was clotting, but she didn’t move and kept her cool. “What about the changes that happen to us? Is everything we’ve done a joke?”

Hugo diverted his gaze from Adele, as though guilty. Adele burst out laughing as the needles pierced her heart.

“So you didn’t care about anything that happened to us all this time? What exactly was it? What was the purpose of it?”

Hugo raised his head and looked Adele in the eyes, pityingly. “We both seemed to like it. I assumed you were like sports and, like me, just wanted to have fun with sex.”

Adele’s ears were ringing because of what she had heard, and she didn’t care who might hear her. “You’re fucked! You should realize that was my first time doing it!”

“I merely said in the contract that I don’t want to juggle personal sentiments, and we may not know about our personal lives.” Hugo was now looking her down with icy eyes.

Adele smacked him hard in the face, and the sound echoed across the parking lot. Hugo shifted his head to the left as Adele dashed out of the parking lot. She was lost and did not know where she was headed. Tears well up in her eyes as she runs.

She sat down when she found a seat. Her tears would not stop falling. She brushes them away, but the tears continue to fall from her eyes. As she sat, she reflected on her discussion with Hugo. She believes she is the only one reeling from the two of them. What she couldn’t accept were the things Hugo told her about sex. Hugo couldn’t have told her that when it was apparent on the moon that he was the one who got her.

“You are also ugly when you cry, like your sister.” Someone spoke in front of her while also laid a handkerchief out.

“What are you doing here?” Adele angrily grabbed the handkerchief. She thinks that the man has been listening to them since the parking lot.

“Shouldn’t I be the one to ask that? What you’re doing in my restaurant because you can’t come here just to eat?”

Adele remained silent. She felt embarrassed by herself. When fate intervenes, everything changes. Soleil was her greatest fear and competition, she reasoned. She should have been thinking about the women she didn’t know outdoors. But she shouldn’t feel that way since the genuine person who loves you will choose you every day for no apparent reason or purpose at all. That person will not make you feel as though you had a rival. Perhaps that was her only mistake. Adele did not know Hugo could do that to her. To get her to believe. The man is still not leaving in front of her.

“I came here to ask you about what you said earlier in the cemetery. You mentioned you had a suspect. And you also mentioned that I shouldn’t just trust anyone.” Now it was curious eyes that Adele showed the man.

“Even if I want to tell you who that is, it’s not possible.” the man laughed and put his hands in the pocket of the black trousers he was wearing. “I don’t want to be imprisoned for accusing me of not having enough evidence. As for what I told you earlier, forget it. I mean nothing by those words.”

The man stepped away when Adele blocked him and opened both arms so that he could not pass. “How did you meet Hugo? And who was the woman he was with earlier?” Her arm was still outstretched as if when she removed it, the man would run. She’s curious because this man’s business is a restaurant while Hugo is medicines.

“I guess you just got everything from your sister. Curious about everything.”

Adele raised her eyebrow in annoyance. Because she doesn’t want to compare them. She knows her sister is better than her and another thing; how a man says it to her, it just seems normal and they seem to be close.

“The reason I’m meeting him is that he plans to take me as a stockholder. I’m planning to open a small company for medicines. He wants to take my company as an investor. He needs stockholders and investors now because of what’s happening in their company. “

Adele wondered what was going on in Hugo’s company and even her mommy Helena and daddy Adelard were gone. “Why? What’s going on with their company? Is it terrible?”

“No. But if it continues and is not resolved immediately, it will only get worse. People will use the issue to further drop their sales and bring them down. The other capsules supplied to them are empty. Others think that was intentional. Because not all buyers are knowledgeable about such a business, others will think that Whitlock decided not to powder the capsules.”

Adele just listened and listened to what the man said. She wants to help Whitlock’s company even if it’s just for mommy Helena for gratitude. Not even for Hugo any more.

Adele lowered her arms and asked again. “What’s your name?”

“Wayne Adams.”

Adele nodded, so Wayne spoke again. “don’t you have anything else to ask? I still have work to do and Hugo and I need to continue our meeting.”

“You haven’t answered my question about who is the woman he was with earlier.”

Wayne shrugged and grinned. “Aren’t you the fiance? Shouldn’t you be the one who knows?”

Adele’s cheeks and ears turned red because she felt embarrassed. She also felt in Wayne’s smile as if he knew about her agreement with Hugo. “Nevermind.”

She was about to pass Wayne when he pulled her back. “There’s no way there.” He pointed the other way, “Here’s the way.” He put the money in her palm. “Your taxi fare home.” Laughing, the man ran after he teased Adele.

She followed the road where the man had run earlier and saw the taxis lined up there. While she was riding in the taxi, she thought about going home to her Aunt Julia’s home first, but she also remembered Soleil. It would only be awkward for them to meet by chance, so in the end, she still went home to the house where Hugo was. When she got there, Hugo’s car was still not there. Maybe he’s still meeting Wayne. Because it was already dark when she got home, she was too lazy to eat and went straight upstairs to wash up immediately. Adele feels that too much has happened today, so she feels very heavy.

After she washed, she went to bed and felt the quiet room. She didn’t even think about what happened to the two of them because she knew in the end that she was also the loser. She was just moved by emotion and given something that shouldn’t be given to someone you’re not sure about.

Gradually, as her eyelids fell off, the door opened and Hugo entered while removing his necktie and removing the button of his white polo. Adele didn’t say a word or even look at Hugo.

Just a few minutes later, Hugo came out of the bathroom. The man sat up in bed and Adele noticed he seemed to be hesitant to lie down.

“Lie down. Don’t even think about what happened. Just imagine that nothing happened earlier. Let’s just go back to how we were before. Act well so they don’t catch us or they don’t notice.” Adele said coldly, then turned around, and a blanket covered her entire body and head. She didn’t know why. Despite what Hugo had done to her, he couldn’t get angry. Soon her eyes closed as well.

The next day, she woke up early and dressed. She was wearing the office attire she was wearing when she first saw Hugo. After she got dressed, Hugo woke up with a surprised and confused expression. As she put on her heels, she spoke.

“I’m going to work as your secretary. That’s exactly what we talked about.”

“You don’t have to do that. I’ll just give you a salary even if you don’t work. All you have to do is act like it’s real.” Hugo got up from the bed.

“I’m just going to die of being so boring here. Don’t worry, I’ll just assist you and your company and I have no plans to interfere in your personal life.” Adele’s treatment of Hugo was still cold. After she put on the stilleto, she took her purse and went downstairs. Just a few minutes later, Hugo came down as well. Adele came out first after she saw Hugo coming down. She went straight to the back seat and leaned her head there.

Hugo entered the driver’s seat. Looks like the driver won’t be driving them now. Arriving at the building, they were greeted by some employees. Others congratulate Hugo on the engagement. Adele just looked straight ahead and smiled at whoever greeted her.

They took the elevator, Hugo pressed the right floor. Arriving at Hugo’s office, Adele was no longer surprised who was sitting in the swivel chair.

The woman played with the ballpen with her teeth. At first, she did not notice who came. When Adele sneezed, she was just surprised and got up immediately from her seat as her eyes widened.

When she was about to run, Adele bump her. So he sits on the floor. Hugo helped the woman as she smiled demonically and started arranging the paper on Hugo's desk.
