Adopting A Stray Cat By The Road Chapter 50

Qin Sisi breathed a sigh of relief, but her heart was still weighed down. She knew that everything was far from over. Moreover, she was worried about Ye You’s attitude towards her rejecting the reward. Ye You had been silently staying behind her without a word, would he be angry?

The voice of Xiao Dan’s mother brought Qin Sisi back to her thoughts: "Miss Qin, I still need your help with Xiao Dan’s case."

Qin Sisi nodded in reply, "I’ll do my best as long as it’s within my capability."

Even without the reward, without the soul power, she would still do this.

After meticulous preparation, she arrived at Xiyuan Park with Xiao Dan’s parents and several police officers close to noon. The officers brought some digging tools with them.

Qin Sisi led everyone to the spot where she had met Xiao Dan that night. The weather today was gloomy, with poplar and locust trees intertwined. The yellow leaves on the grayish branches rustled eerily, akin to a melancholic elegy.

She walked over to the large locust tree where she had been leaning when she first met Xiao Dan. She raised her hand and touched the mottled, coarse bark, then a cold chill transferred into her palm.

"She must be nearby." Qin Sisi thought to herself, then turned to the officers and Xiao Dan’s parents, "It’s in this area."

Ning Hao nodded and gestured for everyone to start digging in this area.

About two hours later, Xiao Dan’s remains were found. After another hour of excavation, all the bones were dug out, placed in a large box, and according to police procedure, these were to be taken back to the bureau for testing.

Xiao Dan’s father looked at the skeletal remains, his eyes red. Xiao Dan’s mother, on the verge of collapse, knelt on her husband’s shoulder and wept inconsolably, her body shaking violently like a leaf in the autumn wind.

Qin Sisi clenched her fists involuntarily. Xiao Dan’s death was clearly not accidental. Someone wicked must be involved. If Xiao Dan had not been found until now, then the murderer was still at large.

Just as Qin Sisi’s emotions started to become agitated, Ye You’s calm voice sounded from behind her. "Don’t worry, we’ll come back to find her tonight."

Qin Sisi imperceptibly nodded, trying to calm herself down, and continued to pay attention to the scene.

By dusk, all the work was almost done. Ning Hao told Qin Sisi that she could go back first and said he would contact her if there was anything else.

Qin Sisi bid Xiao Dan’s parents farewell, comforting them before leaving Xiyuan Park to return home.

Antsy about everything, Qin Sisi walked very fast. As soon as she got back to where she was staying, she eagerly lifted Ye You out of her backpack. "Xiao Hei..."

Ye You looked up at her, his purple eyes devoid of any visible emotion.

Qin Sisi pursed her lips and spoke softly, "I didn’t take the reward."

"Hmm... I heard." Ye You replied indifferently.

Qin Sisi hesitated then said, "Then I probably can’t resign recently." Unexplainably, Qin Sisi felt somewhat disappointed. She had already made psychological preparations to concentrate on finding ghosts with Ye You. Now it seemed unlikely that this could be achieved in the short term.

Seeing Qin Sisi’s gloomy appearance, Ye You reassured her in a light tone, "Just quit. I have other ways."

Qin Sisi’s eyes brightened, and she quickly asked, "What other ways?"

Ye You paused before saying, "Let’s handle Xiao Dan’s matter first."

Mentioning Xiao Dan made Qin Sisi’s mood even heavier. It was dinner time, but Qin Sisi had no heart to cook, nor any appetite to eat. She felt like there was a lump in her chest that she couldn’t swallow or spit out.

Ye You been shook his head looking at her, then walked over to her and said, "Sisi, you don’t have to be like this, there are many things that you can’t determine."

Qin Sisi sighed and said in a melancholic tone, "I know, Xiao Hei... I just think Xiao Dan is quite pitiful and her parents must be really upset."

Perhaps because he had seen too much cruelty and impermanence of life, Ye You didn’t feel as deeply upset as Qin Sisi. Watching her sadness, he felt an urge to comfort her but didn’t quite know how to.

Continuing as if talking to herself, Qin Sisi said, "Xiao Dan’s death is certainly not an accident. She was killed." Qin Sisi’s voice started to show a hint of resentment.

"I know," Ye You replied in a low voice.

"You know?" Qin Sisi replied with surprise, but then quickly understood. Even she could tell that Xiao Dan’s death was not an accident, so how could Ye You not?

So, Qin Sisi then asked with hope, "Then do you know who the killer is?"

Ye You shook his head and said a bit helplessly, "Even she can’t remember, how would I know?"

Qin Sisi became somewhat anxious, "Then what should we do? Should we let the murderer remain at large?"

Ye You pondered for a moment then said, "There’s one way."

Upon hearing this, Qin Sisi’s eyes lit up, she quickly leaned in and asked, "What is it?"

Qin Sisi’s face was right in front of him. Her bright eyes were like dazzling stars, her cherry lips were alluring...

Ye You blinked and turned his head abruptly, forcefully suppressing the inappropriate thoughts. He then said in a deep voice, "Unless she willingly allows my magical power into her body, my magical power may be able to probe into her lost memory if she’s relaxed and has the intention to seek."

So, there’s still a glimmer of hope. Qin Sisi saw a faint light at the end of the tunnel and immediately stood up, "Let’s go find her quickly."

Ye You frowned and said helplessly, "It’s too early, let’s wait for a while." The time was only around six or seven o’clock and, although it was somewhat dark, it was still not appropriate to take action as there were still people coming and going outside.

"But..." Qin Sisi was somewhat unwilling. Whether out of sympathy for Xiao Dan or resentment towards the murderer, she was extremely impatient at the moment.

Sensing Qin Sisi’s anxiety and impatience, Ye You’s purple-eyes deepened. Two cold gaze shot at Qin Sisi with an invisible pressure. Feeling uncomfortable, Qin Sisi raised her head and met the harshness in Ye You’s eyes, sending a chill running down her spine.

Ye You seriously said to Qin Sisi, "Sisi, remember this, haste makes waste. You can’t accomplish anything big with just fervor."

Qin Sisi stood there motionless. Over this period of time, Ye You had spoken to her in various tones: gentle, indifferent, joyful, concerned, caring, indulging, and even angered. But he had never been so stern before.
