CALLUM
"And what are you trying to imply?" Celyn asked, clearly upset by what I had just said. "Are you trying to say that my family are some kind of scoundrels or what?"
"I wouldn’t even dream of it my dear." I answered with a scoff. "But there’s a reason why your ambitions are off the charts. Surely, you got it from one side of the family."
"Don’t you dare, Callum!" She screamed at me.
I shrugged. "I’m just saying that we should start looking for another alternatives. Those are the things that you should be concerned about right now Celyn and not whether or not my opinion on my half brother’s life should bother me."
"So what? You’re blaming me?" She pointed at herself in disbelief.
"Need I remind you Callum that you had a chance to be a father if you wanted by sticking to my stepsister but you threw that away when you got caught cheating by Kalia."
"That wasn’t the plan at that time and you know it. If it weren’t for your efforts, none of this would be happening right now."
"If you were at least bothered about a child in the nearest future, you would’ve stuck to Kalia from the beginning to make it work and not me."
"And since we’re on the page of blaming each other, how about you tell me why you hid the fact that you had an elder brother who not only is the legitimate son but would also succeed the pack after your father to become the one true Alpha." She questioned but how could I have told her that?
"Go on." She urged. "Why did you hide that important detail from me? Didn’t you think that I deserved to know at least?"
"Maybe, if you had started with that from the very beginning, we would’ve worked our way around it and made sure that all exits were fully secured on our end but you didn’t." She accused further.
"Your insecurity got the best of you and now, we’re scrambling trying to fix things that wouldn’t have been a problem if you had just said something but somehow, I’m the problem."
It was my mother’s plan that we found a way to expand my empire and she did that by proposing marriage to Kalia’s family.
I never wanted to get married to Kalia because from the onset, I knew that she was never my type of woman but my mother kept on insisting.
That was until we discovered that Kalia was not the real daughter of her father. I wanted to call it off then but Celyn had told me that Kalia’s share of her rights will only be accessible to her after marriage and because of that, I had to hold on for a while.
I had always wondered why she even had shares at all when her father didn’t even accept her as his child.
She was considered a bastard so the fact that she even had anything at all baffled me but then I came to the conclusion that he must’ve done it out of duty.
Celyn’s father was a prominent Alpha in society and maybe, he didn’t want anyone pointing fingers or blaming him for maltreating his daughter. He must’ve done it to protect his image.
I had told my mother after I found out about it but she wasn’t convinced anymore that I stay engaged to Kalia.
She even encouraged me to call off the engagement and woo Celyn instead but I didn’t even have to do much because we were both in love with each other.
So the plan was simple. Get married to Kalia and find a way to get her share of the inheritance then divorce her and find my way out of that marriage but everything went downhill after she found out about my affair with her stepsister.
And now, I’m back to square zero where I had originally started out. The only plan left was to get married to Celyn because starting over was not an option.
Our marriage would’ve been finalized by now if my father hadn’t brought his so called son to be a witness because now, not only has everything been ruined but I’ve noticed that Celyn had been holding out on me ever since that day I proposed that we take things further.
"Celyn—"
"You seem to be forgetting that I’m not my stepsister and I won’t have you blame me for your misfortunes, Callum." She told me off.
"You wanted me. You chose to be with me and maybe you should’ve thought about all of this before pushing Kalia away or letting her find out about your infidelity."
"Or are you scared that she might eventually fall for Darren now that he had laid his claim on her?" She asked with a laugh.
"I’ll let tonight slide because I know that you’re upset and stressed about everything that has been going on. Even I am upset too but let’s refrain from blaming each other."
She reached out to touch my arm. "Instead of doing that, think about more ways to get Darren out of the line. I’ll also help you if you want me to."
"Right now, your biggest obstacle is not just Kalia but Darren because if he’s out of the picture then Kalia might not become a bride and you will be next in line to rule."
"It’s not that easy."
She shrugged. "I never said it was which is why I used the word ’think’."
"The only way to get your father’s empire is to remove what he loves the most out of the way so that you can become number one."
"No Darren equals no heir and when there’s no heir then there’s no one else but Callum who is next in line to step in."
"Don’t worry, I’ll help you." She said in plain consolation.
"I want to rule by your side Callum. I want to become your Luna and although we both know that it’s not going to be an easy feat to achieve, it still doesn’t make it impossible."
Celyn’s words stuck with me. I have not really thought about it that way until now.
As I started the ignition and drove the car home, I couldn’t help but think more about what she had just said.
She might have a point but the question is, how does she intend to go about it?
