Chapter After

In the end, Natalie remained torn, her loyalty and fear waging a battle within her. The weight of her emotions pressed upon her chest, making it difficult to breathe. She couldn't bear to see Nadine suffer, her heart aching at the mere thought of her friend enduring any more pain. Yet, deep down, Natalie couldn't fathom the consequences they would face if they dared to defy the established order. The very idea sent shivers down her spine, as she imagined the wrath of those in power descending upon them like a storm.

Their conversation ended in a disagreement between both of them, the tension thick in the air. Nadine's plea hung there, suspended in the silence, unanswered. It sounded through Natalie's mind, haunting her thoughts as she struggled with the decision before her. Should she risk everything for the chance at freedom, or should she succumb to the pack as a loyal member, sacrificing her own desires for the sake of stability?

As the sun set behind the towering castle walls, casting long shadows across the enchanting garden, Nadine felt a renewed determination within her. The golden rays of the fading light painted her face, illuminating the fire that burned in her eyes. She knew that her path to freedom would be treacherous and fought with challenges, but she refused to let fear consume her. It was as if an unknown strength had awakened within her, urging her forward, causing her to break free from the shackles that bound her.

With a heavy heart, Natalie watched her friend, as her mind raced with conflicting emotions. She understood the risks, the potential consequences that awaited Nadine if she happened to get caught.

On the other hand and in that moment, Nadine made a solemn vow to herself – she would find a way to escape, to reclaim control over her own destiny, even if it meant defying the expectations placed upon her. The weight of her decision settled upon her shoulders, but she stood tall, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

Nadine, engulfed with determination and an insatiable thirst for freedom, embarked on a deadly mission to gather enough intelligence about the palace security. Driven by an indomitable spirit, she carefully and safely collected information in secret, leaving no stone unturned. With each hidden conversation she eavesdropped on them and every observation she made, she noted them somewhere. Nadine's plan to liberate herself from the confines of the palace grew more concrete.

Days turned into weeks as Nadine dedicated herself to crafting a strategy that would grant her the escape she so desperately craved. She knew that her every move had to be calculated, her intentions concealed from those around her, including her loyal lady-in-waiting, Natalie. Nadine understood that trust was a luxury she could not afford, for any hint of her true intentions could jeopardize her chances of success.

As time passed, Natalie, blissfully unaware of Nadine's audacious plans, began to question whether her mistress would truly follow through with her daring escape. The days slipped by without any mention of Nadine's intentions, leaving Natalie to wonder if her mistress had abandoned her yearning for freedom. Little did she know that Nadine was silently and steadfastly forging her path to liberation, her determination growing stronger with each passing day.

Finally, the long-awaited and fateful night arrived. Nadine had chosen this particular evening to execute her audacious escape, as the moon was veiled by dark clouds, offering her a cloak of concealment. With her heart pounding in her chest, she summoned every ounce of courage and enacted her meticulously crafted plan. Like a predator stalking its prey, Nadine navigated the corridors and elusive shadows of the palace like a thief.

Close calls and heart-stopping moments became a constant companion on Nadine's treacherous journey to freedom. Every step she took was filed with danger, as she navigated the treacherous paths of the palace's hallways, her heart pounding in her chest like a wild beast desperate to break free from its cage. The very air seemed to hold its breath, as if anticipating the expected clash between Nadine's indomitable spirit and the relentless pursuit of her captors.

Nadine's senses were heightened to an almost supernatural level, her eyes scanning every nook and cranny for any sign of danger. She became a master of disguise, blending seamlessly into the shadows like a phantom, her movements so clean and graceful that even the most vibrant guards would be left dumbfounded in her wake. It was as if she had become one with the darkness itself, a ghostly apparition that slipped through the cracks of the palace's impenetrable fortress.

But fate, it seemed, had a twisted sense of humor. Just when Nadine thought she had outsmarted her pursuers, she found herself face-to-face with a guard who had inexplicably turned a corner at the very moment she was about to pass. Time stood still as their eyes locked in a battle of wills, the guard's suspicion burning like a fiery inferno in his piercing gaze. Nadine's heart threatened to burst from her chest, her very existence hanging in the balance.

In that split second, Nadine's mind raced, her instincts taking over like a well-oiled machine. She swiftly changed direction, her body moving with a grace and agility that seemed almost otherworldly. The guard, caught off guard by her sudden turn, could only watch in awe as Nadine seamlessly merged into the bustling crowd that passed by, leaving him none the wiser. It was a moment of triumph, a testament to Nadine's quick thinking and eagerness.

But the challenges did not end there. Locked doors and guarded passages threatened to cut off Nadine's path to freedom, like formidable barriers erected by an unseen hand. Yet, she refused to be stopped. With a mind as sharp as a razor's edge, she analyzed every inch of the palace's layout, searching for weaknesses in its defenses. And when she found them, she exploited them with a calculated precision that would have made even the most seasoned thief envious.

Nadine's knowledge of the palace's security measures became her greatest weapon, allowing her to outmaneuver her pursuers at every turn. She moved like a ghost, slipping through the cracks of the palace's defenses with a combination of stealth, quick thinking, and purposeful determination. It was a dance of survival, a zeal of evasion, as Nadine defied the odds and defied the very concept of captivity.

In the depths of the forest, Nadine's senses became connected to the rhythms of nature. She marveled at the sweet voice of birds that greeted her each morning, the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze, and the soothing trickle of a nearby stream. These sounds became her companions, offering comfort to her and reminding her of the beauty that existed beyond the suffocating walls of the palace.

With each passing day, Nadine's survival instincts sharpened. She learned to find food for herself, discovering the edible treasures that the forest provided. Berries, nuts, and wild mushrooms became her sustenance, sustaining her body as she continued to outrun her pursuers. She even managed to catch a few small game animals, honing her hunting skills and relishing in the taste of freshly cooked meat.

But it wasn't just her physical survival that Nadine focused on. In the solitude of the forest, she delved deep into her own thoughts and emotions. She reflected on her past, on the dreams and aspirations that had been stifled by the expectations placed upon her. She questioned the pack’s decisions that dictated her fate, and she yearned for a life of freedom and self-determination.

As the days turned into weeks, Nadine's determination only grew stronger.

Nadine's actions did not go unnoticed. Rumors of the alpha’s rebellious daughter began to circulate within the palace walls, striking fear into the hearts of those who had once held power without question. The king and Kael grew increasingly angry, ordering their guards to redouble their efforts in capturing Nadine.

Nadine was no longer the naive girl who had fled the palace in fear. She had become a symbol of defiance, a beacon of hope for those who had been silenced for far too long. And as the palace guards closed in on her hiding place, she stood tall, ready to face whatever challenges laid ahead.

As the third day dawned, the search for Nadine intensified. The palace was in an uproar, with guards searching every corner of the kingdom, desperate to bring her back.

Nadine, was driven by a resolve, so she couldn’t be brought down so easily, she remained hidden, determined to outlast her pursuers.

As the golden sun filtered through the lush green foliage of the forest canopy, casting an attractive dance of dappled light on the forest floor, Nadine found herself enveloped in a peaceful sanctuary. The sound of nature's sounds, from the gentle rustling of leaves to the melodious chirping of birds, served as a soothing balm for her soul. In this place, she could safely forget the weight of the world and immerse herself in the raw beauty of the natural world.

Yet, even amidst this nice and quiet environment, Nadine couldn't escape the knowledge that her journey was far from over. The path that lay ahead was treacherous, filled with unforeseen challenges and dangers lurking around. But she refused to be scared. With each step she had taken, she had reclaimed her own strength, a sliver of her identity that had been hidden in a shell for far too long. And now, as she stood amidst the ancient trees, she felt a new sense of purpose coursing through her veins.

In the depths of the forest, Nadine silently made a solemn vow to herself. She would not fall in the face of adversity. She would persevere, no matter how strong the trials that awaited her were. With a flicker of determination igniting in her eyes, she prepared herself for the battles yet to come. The unknown no longer held any fear for her; instead, it made her stronger and gave her the zeal to move forward, promising a chance to carve her own destiny in a world where she would be the master of her own fate.

Meanwhile, inside the opulent confines of the palace, the king grappled with a heavy burden of his own. As he paced the grand halls, his mind weighed down by the weight of responsibility, he contemplated the difficult decision he was about to make. The news of his daughter's escape had struck him like a thunderbolt, a painful reminder of his own failings as a father and a ruler. Yet, amidst the turmoil that threatened to consume him, he found himself grappling with an even greater fear.

It was not the fear of his daughter's safety that troubled him with deep depression, for he knew deep down that she possessed strength and power that would guide her through any adversity. No, what truly haunted him was the knowledge that the lives of his people could be affected because of the actions of his daughter. The weight of this responsibility bore down upon him, threatening to crush his spirit.

What was he going to tell Kael? Had Kael already found his daughter?

He was ashamed he was scared of Kael, a young pup born in his presence but there was nothing he could do, he was feared for a good reason. He had experienced it himself. Kael was not ordinary.

Thinking back at the sad memories wasn't what is going to solve this problem now. First he has to reprimand who let this happen.

He first summoned her lady in waiting, Natalie and questioned her.

"I'm so sorry, your highness." Natalie begged him to pardon her. "She did mention escaping but I thought I convinced her not to do it."

"Clearly you did not. Why didn't you report to me about it?!" He yelled.

Natalie went on her knees immediately and begged.

"Your majesty, please have mercy."
