“What?”
Rousel was the first one to react. Axel, who was sternly looking at Rebecca, had his lips shut. He watched how a triumphant smile occupied her lips, as if pinning him with shame. He did not know if he heard it right, but he wasn’t going to let Rebecca do as she pleased. Surely, this is just a show she put up.
Rebecca was carrying Edward’s child? Axel shook his head, not buying the news Rebecca just said. He was with her the longest, and not even a single time, he got her pregnant. He took her a lot of times. Claimed her, even intentionally spilled his semen inside her. Yet, even after all the efforts taken, they weren’t blessed.
“What you all heard was right. I am pregnant with Edward’s child, and I am here to deliver the message. Edward needs to be here because he is the father.” Rebecca looked victorious as she said it. “Was that enough reason for you to let us pass?”
“Can you prove it?” Axel didn’t take his eyes off her. “Can you prove that you’re pregnant?”
Rebecca tilted her head. “Do you think I’d make such a big lie? I have no reason to do that, Alpha.”
“Sure, you do. Which is why you head to threaten me about ruining my relationship with my Luna, didn’t you?” Axel squinted his eyes. “I bet your Alpha, Edward, had no idea about that.”
Rebecca’s lips pursed. She looked up to his beloved, Edward, and held on to him. How dare you, Axel..
“You didn’t want to let me in.” Rebecca said with emphasis. “And just to be clear, I did not say I was going to ruin your relationship with Sophie. How long are you going to make reasons to forbid me from announcing the blessing bestowed upon us, Alpha?”
“Lower down your gaze, Lycan.” Axel’s voice was intimidating. “I am your Alpha, and you’re in my territory.”
“I repeat, Axel.” Edward tried to calm himself. He did not want to get in between their affairs as family, but he could not stand the Alpha from looking down on his Queen. “We meant no harm, and we are here to deliver a message. If you still don’t want us to meet the other members of the Border even after knowing that, then I beg you, as Rebecca’s mate, to pass the news.”
Rebecca gasped. “Edward! Do not beg!”
“This is to prove that we are not here to make any conflict.” Edward swiftly glance to Rebecca, before he held her waist. “But I must hear your decision, Axel. It’s one way or another.”
Axel, who didn’t flinch even a bit, took a step. “Then I will make the announcement.”
“What?” Rebecca was displeased,
Edward drew a deep breathe, and nodded. “You have my gratitude.”
“No!” Rebecca was completely against the idea. “This is my call to make! I had to announce my own pregnancy!”
“I have agreed to Edward’s offer, Rebecca. And I will only allow it to be forfeited, if you come with us and leave Edward behind.” Axel chin up. “If you can, that is.”
“Leave Edward behind? If only you truly meant it! You were going to throw him away!”
“I have all the right to, Rebecca––“
“You are being unreasonable!” Rebecca raised her voice, which made Axel’s men to take a step.
“You can not disrespect the Alpha, Rebecca. You had been given a choice and you didn’t make a decision.” Hansel said. “You’re going to have follow what they agreed to, or be punish.”
“Punish?” Rebecca scoffed. “Now, I am to be punished for going against the idea of not having to announce properly my own pregnancy?”
Axel’s men, looked at Edward, as if they wanted him to deal with his Beloved. Edward sighed, and held his Queen who was enraged. He had to stop her, as the conversation was turning to be a commotion.
“Let us go, my Queen…” Edward softly told his beloved. “Let the Alpha pass the message.”
“Edward…” Rebecca called him in protest, she wasn’t able to do anything. “Fine.”
Rebbeca, and Edward then left the Capital. The four other men who were taking a distance followed them still to ensure that they would indeed leave. It was only then the Beta were able to expressed themselves. They weren’t able to give out their opinions, as it would have disrespected the Alpha, especially when he’s resolving it by himself.
“Rebecca’s pregnant…” Hansel smiled. “The Lycan Queen is pregnant, at least. We will have another member in the pack!”
“But would the kid join the West Border? His father is an Alpha himself.” It was Rousel.
“The more reason we should accept the alliance,” said the other one. “You should perhaps consider it, Alpha.”
Axel drew a deep breath and walked pass his Beta. He was still thinking about what Rebecca said. Pregnant? He still didn’t believe that. But if Rebecca’s so convinced that she’d show up to make an announcement, then he’ll do his part to the deal and pass it.
But he was sure the moment this news was proven to be false, he would remove Rebecca from the family. She can go wherever she want as she pleases. But she can not fool the Border. There are no spaces for liars in his pack. May it be a Lycan Queen, or a past lover.
Axel had to do announce the message as a part of the deal. Later that day, Axel gathered the pack, to declare Rebecca’s pregnancy, and whilst it brought happiness to the Borders, some couldn’t help but question why she was able to produce one, when she couldn’t while she was with the Alpha. But although it was indeed a mystery, no Beta nor Omega was able to raise a question.
Surely, whoever it was that would dare to ask why Rebecca wasn’t able to get pregnant with the Alpha’s child, would have to take Axel’s rage. All of them knew it. So, despite the mystery that they unlocked together with the news, they kept silent.
Axel, on the other hand, knew what his people were thinking. It was the same reason he was on a bad mood the whole time. He wanted to be alone, so he left the pack as they celebrate.
There was no way I was the problem. Axel closed his eyes. He was not infertile. Perhaps, thing just didn’t work with Rebecca, but he was sure he wasn’t sterile.
The thought made him think of Sophie. Her coronation was near. Perhaps he should focus on producing an heir after her inauguration, so he could show everybody that he wasn’t the problem.
