Chapter 39

Kyle's POV

Are we dead?

I asked my wolf as I made an effort to peel my eyelids open. I tried remembering where I was and how I got here.

The beeping sound of machines and drips fixed all over me made me realize that I was alive and in a hospital. This only means that the surgery was successful.

I couldn't tell how long I have been out, but it felt like it has been like an eternity later.

Finally, I was able to open my eyes to a very blurry vision which soon faded to clear sight after some seconds.

“Hey,” I heard someone call out.

I turned my face to see the bastard sitting by my bedside and smiling at me.

“Hey” I replied with a weak smile, my wolf was glad to see him by my side. I felt a sudden surge of energy as his scent hit my nostrils.

“Our mate is here,” my wolf said.

And I realized that this might be the first time since she had called him mate.

He was looking stressed and worn out, and I wondered how long he has been sitting there and just staring at me.

Another thing that flashed through my mind after my eyes had wandered around the entire room was the fact that my mother, was nowhere in sight.

“Where is mum,” I asked in a weak tone.

“She would join us shortly, let me get the doctor,” he said as he stood up and walked out of the room.

I noticed how he was deliberately trying to avoid my eyes while he spoke. I remember very well that my mother was holding my hands till I fell into sleep before the surgery.

I was expecting she would be the first person I would see as I opened my eyes.

She was very happy that I would be finally getting my heart fixed.

Where is she, and I hope she is fine? Because something doesn't feel right.

Just then, a doctor entered the room followed by the bastard. The doctor wears a beautiful smile as his eyes land on me, he is a middle-aged human male, not more than fifty-five years old.

“How are you feeling kyle?” he questioned as he walked closer to my bedside

“I am fine,” I said clearing my dried throat.

“Please can I get a cup of water,” I asked?

“Of course,” he said as he walked over to a water dispenser at the side of the room to fetch me some water.

“Where is my mother?” I found myself asking the doctor after taking sips from the cup.

I couldn't just buy the idea that she was not with me because she had somewhere more important to be at.

The doctor shared a looked with the bastard, before returning his gaze to me.

“How about you allow me to examine you first then I can answer your questions afterward,” he said.

Since I didn't have a choice I nodded in agreement. He pulled out a file beside my bedside as his eyes went back and forth from the file in his hand, the machines, and finally back to me.

“Are you having any major pains?” he asked.

“Not really, just a little soreness in my chest region” I answered.

“Are you having any headaches or any discomfort you wish to let me know about”

I tried staying in tune with my body to see if I was in any real pain aside from the needles stinking my skin.

“No,” I said.

“Good,” he said as he jotted down a few notes on his file.

“Now I am going to take off the bandages to examine the healing rate around the scar area,” he said as he placed the file on the small table.

He was about to untie the hospital gown when the bastard growled at the doctor unconsciously.

That startled the doctor, as he looks weirdly at the bastard who seem to have realized that he didn't have to do that.

I looked at him and could almost smell his jealousy and his desire to protect me. I have heard of how protective an alpha can be of their mate and at this moment I want nothing more than to make him feel happy.

“Do you mind?” I asked the doctor who nodded a go-ahead for me to take off the dress around the area he needed to examine.

The doctor who has been comfortable all the while seems to be shaken up all of a sudden.

“You have completely healed” the doctor exclaimed after taking off the bandages.

He threw the trash into the wastebasket before returning to where I was still amazed by my speed healing rate.

I know he was surprised, I have heard that Usually, it take around four to six weeks for humans to get healed from such major operations.

“How long have I been out?” I asked as I covered up my shirt and tried adjusting myself on the bed to a sitting position

“One week today,” the doctor said, not taking his eyes away from his file.

“When can I go home?”

“From what I can see, you are good to go whenever you are ready,” he said.

just then, a nurse badged into the room in a panic.

“Your attention is needed urgently doctor,” the nurse said in a rush.

“Please excuse me the doctor,” said rushing after the nurse.

The room was once again quiet, leaving only the sound of the machines to fill the atmosphere.

“Mum is not coming, is she?” I asked the bastard as two hot tears flowed down my eyes.

I knew the woman I grew up with and I know that if by now she still hasn't come, she was never coming.

“No, she is not because she is already here with us, you have her heart now,” The bastard said in a broken voice while sniffling his nose.

I could tell he was struggling to stay strong, struggling not to cry, and trying to be all brave and tough.

How could I have been so dumb to believe that she was going to be here when I woke up.

When I insisted on seeing the person that was willing to donate their heart to me, my mum kept bringing up one excuse or the other. There was never a donor, she was the donor.

I have my mother's heart and I wish I didn't.

My heart was aching seriously as flashbacks of the times we shared kept flashing before my eyes.

I wished I could tell her one more time how much I loved her and how important she was to me.

“You are the only one I have now, you are the only one I love and want, please don't leave me, don't ever run away from me, please,” the bastard said amid sobbing.

We were both broken and as it stands we only had each other against the rest of the world. I raised my hand to wipe his tears so he could look straight into my eyes.

Nick's POV

It's been three days since we left the hospital. We have been hiding out in a small hut that I made in the woods far away from where anyone can see us or so I thought.

It's been very difficult-staying with kyle and not claiming her. She is still shaken up by the fact that our mother sacrificed herself for her.

As much as it kills me to think of all the things I could do to her, I still have to respect boundaries, till she is willing to accept me.

It was dark and kyle was already sleeping when I heard a groaning sound from outside the hut.

I stood up to go and check where it was coming from and as I stepped out of the hut, I saw four vampires standing in a semi-circle outside the hut.

The problem is I have never seen a vampire, but I have heard so much about them.

Their lips were dropping red from the blood of their previous innocent victims.

“You are not welcome here,” I said to them,

They exchanged evil glances among themselves before letting out evil laughter.

“Say who?” One of them asked dramatically

Then like a whisper in the breeze, I heard a voice tell me

“Let them feed on you,"

Now that is strange, I could fight them off and use all of my tactics to get them all killed but to let them feed on me is a different ball game.

I mean, they could kill me. And I fucking do not want to die, I haven't even had sex yet.

Oh, did you just realize that? My wolf asked teasingly as I could sense him rolling his eyes inwardly.

I was going to ignore the voice and go-ahead to fight it out with them when I discovered I couldn't move my legs.

All attempts to wiggle my legs failed as I remain rooted to the same spot. The night creatures seem to be enjoying the sight as they beam from ear to ear.

Let them feed on you, the voice said again.

I had no choice so I gave up.

They start closing in on me as I paused everything I was doing and stretched out both of my hands to the side.

“You want to feed, come eat,” I said and within seconds, six pairs of fangs were pierced hard onto my skin. Warmblood slipped by my skin gently as they kept sucking out my blood.

Then about sixty seconds later, the three of them starts coughing and choking. They staggered around holding their neck and throwing up all the blood they have ever drank till they started puking out their intestines, their eyes were bleeding and they all fell dead in no time.

The two other vampires were able to run away but their speed was no match to mine as I caught up with them.

I utter some Latin words and fire appeared from nowhere on their body, they were shouting and wailing as the fire consumed them to their bones.

I stretched out my hands towards the three dead beasts on the floor and heavy wind came to clean their bodies off the floor.

I was amazed as to how I got these powers as I look at my both hands in astonishment.

“You have the red moon gift,” I heard a familiar voice say behind me, I turned to see that it was my mother.

“Mum?” I called out.

“I am not your mum, but I can take up her appearance just to make you feel comfortable whenever I am with you”

“What's your name,” I asked,

“My name is Kiara, and I am your spirit guard”
