Chapter # 36

The seas of uncertainties on my heart, I want to release it.

“Please, Candice.” I whispered, staring intensely at her.

The fire backfiring in my heart and making it burn fiercely is intense as the smoke filled my path.

“Everything made it difficult for me to see and find the right path to do what I should or not.” I confessed, lowering my gaze.

There was an extreme to my agony which I needed to stop and live up to my core but it apparently seemed impossible.

“Stop this, I can’t lose you, you are my world.” I said, closing my eyes to sink into darkness.

The next day, My eyes slowly opened as I found myself on the ground.

I sat beside Candice and talked to her in sleep but then due to exhaustion, my eyes fell into the darkness as I fell asleep here.

“Candice?”

I blinked a few times and raised my gaze only to see Candice face so close to mine. She was sitting beside me with her face so close to mine.

In the same sleeping position as mine, she was also sitting on the ground.

‘Did she hear what I said last night to her in her sleep?’

I looked at pleasing features calming my heart as a faint smile came to my lips.

“I don’t know what I should do anymore.” I said in a barely audible voice.

‘Please tell me and fill up the darkness; it’s difficult for me to cross the path as the gloom is not letting me.’

I straightened my back and brought my hand close to her slumbering one and tucked a strand of her hair falling on her face behind her ear.

Stroked the side of her face affectionately before I could proceed further, her voice came,

“I am awake. You don’t have to worry about me.” She said coldly, yanking my hand and standing up.

“Then why did you sleep beside me?” I asked, standing up as well.

“You were invading my personal space. I tried to shift you to bed but couldn’t.” She shrugged.

With a devoid gaze which hurt me, she left the room.

Knowing my words will only cause damage I remained silent and let her do what she is doing.

I got ready for work and timidly looked at her when she entered.

“Don’t leave without having breakfast.” She said, setting my tie.

I kept looking at her desperately wanting to say something but knowing my words would be in vain, I remained silent.

“Tyler,” Candice took a pause, “I went to the hospi-” She was cut off by the knock.

“Sir, We have company.”

“Who?” I asked.

“Cops.” A look of fright swept over Candice’s face as her grip tightened over me.

“You are connected to the Dark Lord, that’s why they came here, isn’t it?” She asked hurriedly. “It’s nothing like this, Candice. Calm down.”

“What is he to you?” She asked, losing her mind before dread.

“Candice.” I called her sternly. “Stop panicking, It’s nothing like this.” I whispered.

“But-” She tried to speak but I cupped her cheek.

“It’s alright. Okay?” I passed her a faint smile.

“Let’s see why they are here.” I said, trying to soothe her.

“It must be about your kidnapping. Don’t worry.” I whispered.

“Okay…” She gulped, lowering her gaze.

I wonder how long I could hide my identity from her. She’ll eventually know who I am.

We walked out, “Hello, What brings you here officer?” I asked.

“Officer James has been missing for a few months and you are the prime suspect behind his disappearance.” He explained.

Oh, Shit.

“I see. Anything else?”

“We also have doubts that you might be involved with the Mafia.”

“You have to come with us.” I nodded, Candice’s grip on my hand tightened with worry written over her face, I turned to Candice and whispered,

“Don’t come after me.”

She looked at me for a few seconds as her worry dispersed to hear my words. I could understand her worry but I did and didn't want to increase it.

She narrowed her eyes and snapped, “Fine. And don’t worry. I won’t doubt you like you did.”

I sighed at her taunt and went with the officer.

They asked me a few questions and told me to wait.

I don’t know why after all these months they came to me asking for it.

I just hoped that Missy hadn’t done this or else I’d lose my cool.

I was leaning on the wall, lost in thoughts of what Candice would think about me.

‘Maybe I should tell her who I am.’

As I was lost in my thoughts but then Christian came. I was shocked to see him here, what is he doing here?

"Hey... What brought you here?" He asked, walking towards me.

We were baffled to meet here.

Last time I met him was telling him about the Nicolas ordeal but he advised me to calm down and let Candice open up to me…

And I messed up badly.

"Nothing... just something trivial. And you?" I replied casually while lighting up my cigarette.

"The same reason as yours." He said leaning beside me on the wall. I offered him a cigarette but he refused it.

He never smokes but I offered him anyway.

I shrugged my shoulders but then a police officer came, glaring at me, "You can't smoke here." He said.

"Oh, Okay." I said casually as he threw the cigarette on the dustbin, curling my lips upwards as I said mockingly.

"Anything else? His Majesty" I was already pissed, surely didn’t want to create a scene by arguing.

Officer scoffed and left.

I chuckled dryly and then again leaned on the wall.

Christian sighed and began to say, "Today is our anniversary and here I am, in the station. Merlin sure knows how to destroy the day." He said, talking about his ex-wife.

"Oh, Happy Anniversary.. Dude...By the way, Merlin always did that. Last time, she was the one who ruined your special day." I said.

That woman knows how to destroy Christian’s life either by her deeds or words.

"Thanks and Yeah.. She always did that.. she just doesn't learn her lesson."

Christian muttered as I chuckled knowing how much he is humiliating her still she has guts to play with fire.

I shook my head and he asked, "So.. how's your married life?" My smile faded to hear it.

I don’t have an answer for this question, before this mountain of skeptics, “Hmm?” He hummed.

“My life was heaven with her but now it’s suffocating me to see a wall building between us.” I breathed out.

“What do you mean?”

I remained silent for a few moments and sighed, finally replying, "I don't know man... I think.. she is hiding things from me."

His eyes widened in astonishment because I am still saying this even after his advice.

"You sure?" Christian asked.

"Dude, I told you about it." I said exasperatedly.

"Was I too hasty about it and made a wrong choice? I have waited for her all this time and now it doesn’t seem right."

I grit my teeth in vexation as he put a hand over my shoulder in assurance.

"Tyler. Maybe you should confront her rather than making assumptions about anything."

I hummed and said, "You're right.." I tried to confront her but couldn’t hold my wrath, bursting at her.

Said what I shouldn’t. I have fucked it up.

Then a silence fell upon us and I asked, "When are you going back?"

"Soon.. and you?"

"When I want to." I smirked, knowing it’s a matter of seconds for me.

He smirked back and turned in another direction, "Yeah.. Of course, By the way, Who dared to pick a fight with you?"

"Just a business rival, challenging me. But, it surely is a coincidence that we both are here." I replied monotonously.

“Challenging you?” He laughed.

“Who dares to pick fights with you?” He asked again.

“Don’t worry. I have planned his demise in accordance with his deeds. He broke his limits.” I scowled but then he gave me an evil smirk.

“When it comes to work, you have no heart.” He said with a sigh.

“I know.” He replied.

“And yeah, it’s her. It’s a slip of tongue. Usually my enemies are fatuous males, you know.” I shrugged to which he hummed.

"I want to go soon. Sophie must be worried." He exclaimed anxiously.

"I wish Candice would also feel the same for me." I said hopelessly.

Knowing I have pissed her more and she must be burning before being concerned.

"Tyler you know it, how you guys are married, give yourself some time." He reasoned.

"Dude, Have you forgotten how you got married? And it was so clear that you guys are in love after 4 months of your marriage, unlike ours." I said nonchalantly.

But a glint of anger was clear in my voice but I can’t blame them. They were connected and after Sophie’s acceptance.

Even knowing the secrets hidden from her, led them to a new glory unlike our.

“We both are hiding things from each other.” I confessed.
