Chapter ~Lucas becomes a false father~

~Lucas becomes a false father~

“I am glad to have you both back Mr and Mrs Lucas,” the doctor said and shared an inspective stare among Gabriela and Lucas.

Their hands were clenched together beneath the table as they gave listening ears to the doctor. Lucas was all smiles arguing why Gabreial brought him to the hospital.

“It would be my pleasure to have my husband run the eye surgery. We are fianancilly ready to run it now, doctor,” said Gabriela as she shot her glisten face at him and kept at her smiles.

The doctor shook his head at Lucas who was all smiles and full of life. “It had been my earnest desire to have my sight back. This life is too beautiful to be shut out in darkness. The beauty of life is most appreciated with the eyes. With gorgeous excellent creatires around you one could get frustersted if he doesn’t see what they look like. My pregnant wife is one of such creatures. Not only do I want to see her beautiful face again also I want to see my baby with my two eyes by the time she puts to bed. This will be a dream come true.”

“Now listen to me Lucas you are going to have your sight back. In few minutes you are going to be in the theatre where you would go under the knife. I assure you, in less than forty eight hours you will be seeing your beautiful wife with your eyes and the size of her baby bump too…” the doctor sounded jocularly.

Where as Lucas burst out laughing Gabriela frowned as guilt of the pregnancy panged her heart. She wondereded what fate had for her, especially now Aku knew about the true paternity of the pregnancy.

“Um Lucas you must be ever loyal to your beautiful wife. She is indeed a darling. You don’t get to see women that take care of their husbands the way she dooes…”

Lucas interjected hastily, “You don’t need to tell me, doctor,. I am not married to a woman. I am married to an angel and I am proud an angel is pregagnt for me. Isn’t that beautiful?”

Gabriela interrupted him with a slight cough once he mentioned pregnancy. Her morality could affirm to the discomfort that accompanied pregnancy when ever it was being mentioned.

Nothing had been judgemental and more pricking than guilt that most times she wished she could stop everyone one from using the word pregnancy.

“Honey do you need some water? You are coughing heavily,” Lucas reminded her, groping his hand to touch her face.

Already the doctor had earned her a glass of water which she forcefully drank through inward nagging.

No one knew what was about to happen, even Gabriela whose burden of baby bump measured up to the desk in front of her didn’t realize what was about to happen.

While slucas was still blushing the doctor put a phone call across to his nurses to prepare the thetare for eye surgery. Now Lucas’s blushing dilated even the more; his hands wer still clenched to Gabriela and he expected she was feeling the adrenaline of excitemtn pumping in him. Lucas could feel the showers of sweat that gathered in her palms and he could confess to a reaction occurring in Gabriela. He wanted to ask her about anything disturbing her, anything at all. But then minding his business most times was also part of true love. He understood the pressure that accompanied pregnancy and wouldn’t want to pester her.

He couldn’t tell the energy behind the fits that clenched on his fingers. But he could tell for real Gabriela wasn’t just fine within herself. She was fighing back a reaction; something was about to erupt.

“So, Lucas soon the nurses would come through and lead you to the theatre…” the doctor had barely finished his statement when Gabriela let a scream. Her finger clenched tightly on Lucas’s arms that anyone could see the veins that wired through her amrs. She was undergoing excrutiating pains.

“Ah! My baby! My baby! Ah!” she screamed and shrieked furiously and noisily leaving the doctor and Lucas flinching for help.

Heavy pandemonium hung over them as they hastened…

“Doctor ! Doctor!” Lucas called, groping his other hand which was free. “Are you there? I think my wife is in labor,” he intoned, his voice a bit husky and fearful. “Doctor!” he barked and groped his hand to grab the doctor who wasn’t busy calling the nurses on phone.

“I will handle the situation, Lucas,” replied the doctor who was already with Gabriela, “Now take a deep breath yeah, a deep breath. Move gently just gently, don’t hasten up, I will lead you to the labor room. Your gorgeous baby is about to come forth. I will lead you okay…”

Gabreial gave a weak node and smacked her lips to persevere.

The nurses barged in immediately and got instructions from the doctor, “Some of you could lead Lucas into the theatre for the surgery while some could lead Gabriela into the room for delivery. Be fast about it, now…”

Some nurses rode in with one stretcher and a wheel chair. Lucas was made to lie on the stretcher while Gabriela was conveyed in the wheel chair.

They were both ridden away in one accord. Where as Gabriela disturbed the entire hospital with her cry for help, Lucas consoled her and nursed her with nice endearing words.

“You will be just fine, my dear wife. I am with you, sweetie…”

Soon they parted ways when Lucas was ridden into the theater and Gabriela into the labor room; staright from the theatre Lucas was disturbed by the shreiking voice of his wife. But nothing was more exciting than the thought of beholding his baby with his eyes by the time the eyes surgery would be over. Patiently he waited for the cry of a baby, and smiled on end as the surgeon walked in to commence the surgery…
