Chapter ~Blood is thicker than water~

~Blood is thicker than water~

Gabriela put to bed a bouncing baby boy. She lay next to the delicate creature who resembled Azuaka in all ramification; that was the point that got her infuriated. She was done staring at the cute little being that wailed almost all day. Without DNA one could tell that Azuaka was the father of the child. Indeed blood was thicker than water and she couldn’t deny the fact that Lucas was out to love and care for a baby that wasn’t his. She wished Lucas had accepeted the divorce politely without rejection. With the baby being born, she wondered if she would summon the guts to look Lucas in the face and say he was a father.

She could hear the knocking of shoes on the floor and shortly the doctor usherd in.

“How do you do today, Gabriela” he asked smiling cheek to cheek before turning his gaze at the baby, “I hope your baby is doing well.”

She forced a smile, “We are so well, doctor. Thank you so much for giving us the best of attention all through the hours in the labor room. Thank you so much, doctor.”

“Well, I have been all about my job. I got a surprise for you, Gabriela,” he said, clapped his hands snappingly and the nurses walked in with Lucas in a wheel chair.

Gabriela flinched seeing that Lucas was looking differently and most especially his blank eyes had vigor and light now.

“Good morning my beautiful wife,”said Lucas the moment he sureged closer. “The brightness of his eyes cut resemblance from the blueness of ocean. Indeed something had happened to her husband.

“Oh my God! Oh my God! Doctor it is a lie! Lucas Lucas” she exclaimed out of her bed to grab his arm. “Baby can you see me now?” she asked anxiously, waving her hands.

“Oh! I can see you perfectly well!” he replied firmly and full of life.

Ordinarily he would have groped his hand in the air in search of her face. But this time he stretched forth to her face, grabbed it and kissed her sensual lips without being led by anyone.

“Lucas can you see me? Are you sure you can see me? If you are sure you can see, what amI putting on?” she asked anxiously and waited through bated breath for her response.

Lucas’s face had a smirk. Huge smiles curled up his lips, “You are donning a blue maternity gown, white and black scarf and gold necklace is on your neck. Your bed sheet is white in color.”

“Oh my world! Is a lie! Lucas! You can see again! Come over here!” she shouted at the tops of her voice, opend her arms in embrace.

They hugged with emotions choking on their breath. Gabriela broke down in tear before Lucas started sobbing behind her neck.

“I am glad you made it Lucas. I can’t believe you have your sight now. This must be a dream!” she wailed, trickling tears on his shoulders.

“Yes Gabriela! I can see. The surgery was a huge success. I can see my surrounding,” he glared around. “This is a white painted room, with black window shades and pop ceiling sheets.” His gaze came upon the delicate, light-skinned creature in the cradle, “Wait a minute! That must be our baby, Duncan!”

At the mention of that she broke down in uncontrollable tears as guilt caressed through her thought. Her heart pounded with uncertainsty as Lucas wheeled to the side of the baby, smiling.

“Oh Duncan! Baby Duncan! Daddy is here with his sight in tact! Baby,” he said, peered his face to his tiny chin and kissed him. “You are welcome to my world, baby boy! Daddy regained his sight same day you were born! Isn’t it a miracle, uh!” Lucas, stamped another grateful kiss on the chin of Duncan before taking him in his arms and wheeled back.

“Now you have seen our baby,” said Gabriela, fondling the hem of her dress, scared to raise her gaze on him and lock eyes together. She shook with iniquity and judgenment. Her conscience hung guilt on her neck that she suddenly felt heavy within her self. With her palms sweating and feet getting warm, she wondered how she was going to keep the baby’s paternity a secret all her life. She stole a glance at Lucas play and kiss little Duncan and she died severally in her heart.

She wanted to scream out the truth. She wanted to go on her knees and apologize to Lucas for cheating on him with Azuaka. She wanted to give him the right to divorce her, because he deserved it and she overdid it. But she wanted to do nothing, say nothing and keep the secret at the same time.

“So Mr. and Mrs Lucas,” the doctor called, “You two can return home whenever you wish.. Lucas you are fit to expose your eyes to the rays and go about your normal, every day life. Please you must avoid a second occurrence of this accident. Drive careful and feed on carotene-rich food. Have a wonderful prosperous life ahead and once again congratulations on your wife’s safe delivery of a bouncing baby boy. I am so happy for you both.”

“Oh thank you so much doctor,” Lucas had hand shake with the doctor, “You did a perfect job in my eyes. I can appreciate the beauty of my wife now and can say who my baby boy resembles…”

Gabreial grinned at the mention of resemblance. Her breathing became much of a struggle as she lowered her gaze and lost interest in whatever they were saying now. If she could recall, the baby looked lighter with bigger nose and darker turf, hair which seemed nothing like theirs. The baby didn’t resemble her in any way. She was just seeing much of Azuaka in him. She prayed Azuaka wouldn’t show his face at home, also that Aku would keep her mouth shut.

She only wondered what fate awaited her…
