At breakfast they perched quietly at the dining as each brooded over the problem of the moment. Opula had barely put a spoonful into her mouth as she was only interested in fondling with the dish and wiping cold tears that trickled to the floor.

“I have something to tell you, sweetie,” he intoned, caught her fingers and rubbed them, “I believe it would go a long way to perk you up.”
She brightened up, wiped her tears, sniffed back her phlegm and blinked anxiously. “What could that be?” she asked and locked eyes with him.
“I have a child,” he replied instantly, his voice longing and booing within the room.
Her cutlery clacked on the china plate as she raised a brow, and felt burnt in her stomach. She saw it in a different light, “What the fuck! You have already started cheating on me because of my barrenness!” she sat up to toss the dish at Azuaka.
“No! No! No! Calm down Opula! It is not what you think” Azuaka sat up too, gesturing his hand at her to calm down.
“What fucking explanation do you have?” her eyes held thunder and lightning.
They only could hear their whistling, uneasy breathing now.
“It happened before I married you. Don’t misunderstand me, please . It has nothing to do with our predicament. I can’t cheat on you. You know that…”
Her frown was still held, “Speak! I am all ears. You better don’t lie to me, Azuaka. I will take my life if I find out you cheated on me …” she was gasping for breath now.
“Ok . I won’t tell a lie. Trust me. I am going to be honest in this one.” He dimmed his eyes thoughtfully, “it started before I married you. Her name is Gabriela. She came to apply for job in my news paper company and I fell in love with her since you wouldn’t agree to marry, me. Although she later revealed to me she was married yet I wouldn’t give up on her. I wanted her. I courted her. There was no stopping me,” he paused and snorted in exhaustion.
“Continue I am all ears right now,” Opula sounded and folded her hands to listen yet further.
“So one day she joined me on a business trip to Brasilia. We got drunk thereafter and ended up in bed. Later on I got to find out she was pregnant and a DNA test result fell from her hand bag and unknown to her it was picked by me. Lo and behold her husband tested negative to the paternity test…”
Opula interrupted madly, “What the fuck are you talking about? What are you insinuating Azuaka?”
“Hold on, baby, you need to understand where I am coming from. I confronted her about the pregnancy and she agreed her husband wasn’t responsible for her pregnancy and she was preagnt for another man. I thought she was pregnant for me. But she kept denying she wasn’t pregnant for me but for another man.”
“It is very pointless of you taking responsibility of a child without running a DNA. Or have you done a DNA Test?” she queried.
He shook his head abruptly, “No but I strongly believe that child is mine. Gabriela has a child for me…”
Opula interrupted him. “Stop this Azuaka. You are sounding like some broken records. You can’t claim paternity of a child without proves. You have to show that the child is yours. She might be right when she said another man was responsible for her pregnancy, OK have you set eyes on the child?”
“No! but I hear she put to bed a year ago or so and the child must be two years now…”
Opula walked up to him, held his face and said softly, “If you are convinced he is your child, then insist you go for a DNA test and if it is confirmed, you must reclaim the child. I need your child. You can see what befell me. I am childless now. No hope of getting pregnant even if we fuck every shift of the seconds. I am with you in this struggle. We must go right away to prove if the child is ours or not.”
“Yes dear we must go. Every now and then she keeps denying me attention and fighting me off each time I mention the child, Gabriela must know she just stepped on the wrong toes. We must go for a DNA test and we will win.” His face dragged a manageable frown before they pulled together and kissed passionately.
“This is a welcomed development. If you test positive to paternity, my joy will be full. It will be my dream to carry a child from your loins. I will be glad to carry your child and not some adopted child,” she whispered somewhere around his face and initiated a kiss.
