Chasing Night Chapter 47

I reached Night’s room alone, but I still didn’t know how to thank him. I’m nervous, unlike when I used to stalk him, but I don’t know how to talk to him. I also don’t know if he might lash out at me like last time. "Let’s just keep it simple. Thank him and then leave." I told myself as I took a deep breath. After inhaling and exhaling lots of times, I knocked on the door, but no one answered. "Night? I know you’re in there."

There’s still nothing. Is he ignoring me because I garnered attention again for losing consciousness like that in the middle of the hallway? ’He’s really mean when it comes to these things.’ I thought as I tried to open the door, and I almost squealed due to shock when it opened. ’H-How come it opened without too much effort?’ I gulped as I opened the door.

It’s pure darkness inside. The only thing that helps me see inside is the lampshade beside the bed. "Night?" I called for his name as I walked toward the bed.

I saw him lying on the bed with his eyes closed. ’It literally means he’s sleeping! What am I doing? Disturbing a sleeping person?’ I sighed as I stared at his face. He looks like an angel when he’s asleep. It’ll be better to thank him later than wake him up. When I turned my back on him, I felt someone’s hand on my wrist, making me stop walking away.

"Shiho." I looked at Night after he said that.

’Shiho? Who’s that?’

"I’m sorry." Night said in his sleep. He’s apologizing to someone whose name is Shiho. Isn’t that a girl’s name? "Forgive me." Sweats were coming out of his temples, and he started frowning. His breathing grew heavier, and I knew this wasn’t good.

"Night? Wake up." I told him as he kept twisting and turning on the bed while holding onto my arm. "Night," I called for his name gently this time. Seeing him like this scares me, but I don’t know what to do either. ’Should I call for anyone outside?’ I thought, but even after screaming at the top of my lungs, no one was coming inside. Rika left me without waiting for me somewhere near.

Standing up was exhausting, so I sat beside the bed on the floor. The fact that the floor has a tatami flooring but Night’s sleeping on a bed makes me doubt if he’s really Japanese. Just kidding! Anyway, kidding aside, seeing Night like this makes me want to stare at his face longer.

What is he dreaming about having his sweats come out like water from an open faucet? He looks like he’s having a hard time too. It makes me think, what should I do to help him? That’s when I remembered placing a handkerchief inside my dress’s pocket. Yeah, amazing, right? My dress has a pocket!

I pulled the handkerchief out of my pocket and stood up from the floor. Night was still holding my left wrist tightly, so I used my right hand to wipe his forehead as I sat on the bed. "Why won’t he let go of my arm?" I sighed as I gently wiped his sweats, making his groans stop.

I’m unsure if you should wake up a person who’s having a nightmare, and he’s not even waking up when I tried to. "I wonder who Shiho is." Is she his lover? Then what about Tomoe? Wow, he’s really a playboy, doesn’t he? There are too many girls surrounding him, and I used to be one of them too. Even though he didn’t pay me any attention.

"How would it feel to be the center of your attention?" I muttered. I’m just inquisitive since I’ve been begging for his attention for two and a half years. It was fruitless, but it made me become the person I am now. "I guess that’s the reason why."

After wiping his sweats, I sat back on the floor and sighed. If things didn’t change, would I still be running after him every time, saying he’s my perfect prince? That’s indeed possible.

But nobody’s perfect. Even Night, who’s been tremendous at everything, has his shortcomings. "How come I know nothing about you when I was your stalker?" Now I’m just talking to myself. It’s weird. Can I really consider myself his stalker before? I didn’t know where he lived because his car would always vanish before I could follow him. That must be Kenji’s swift work.

I don’t know about his mother’s death either, and his father, that attends schools event isn’t his father at all but Kenji’s father. "Why do you look like you hate the world sometimes?" I muttered as I placed my arm on the bed and leaned my head near Night’s hand on my wrist.

Does Night not only hate me? Even if I don’t have romantic feelings toward him anymore, I want the two of us to get along. I’m done hating him for the fear he gave me before, and I’m the one asking for his help, so I want to appreciate his little kindness although he’s forced.

I just don’t like being on bad terms with anyone. It makes me uncomfortable. "But you always push me away when I try to keep up with you." Maybe it was because of his duties, but Night helped me study, and he helped me when I asked for his help when El was in danger.

That reminds me! What happened to that masked guy they caught? I think he’s still in the basement or somewhere in the mansion, but I just don’t know where. I have many questions, but Night won’t answer any of them. All this thinking makes me feel tired. I’ll just take a quick nap and wake up before Night does.

The quick nap turned into an hour’s sleep, and it was already raining outside when I woke up. "You’re finally awake." I gulped after hearing Night’s voice. "You even drooled on my hand. It’s disgusting." He said that making me look at his hand and there’s indeed drool there. ’That’s so embarrassing!’ I pulled the handkerchief from my pocket and wiped his hand before I could even wipe my mouth.

"I-It’s because you won’t let go of my arm," I said, which is the truth! But Night responded with nothing. The silence makes me feel guilty for getting into his room without permission.

"How did you get in?"

And there we go. Night asked it! How will I say I allowed myself inside even though he’s sleeping? No matter how much I think about it, what I did was inappropriate. I’ll be annoyed if someone goes inside my room without permission just like this. "I-I opened the door. It’s not locked." That doesn’t mean I can just enter like that! What’s wrong with me, seriously?

"And what do you need from me?"

I stood up from the floor with my head still looking down. There’s no way I can look Night in the eye like this. The coldness in his tone makes me feel shivers down my spine, and I still fear him a little. "I-I just want to thank you for your help. That’s all! And it’s your fault I can’t leave because you grabbed my hand telling me not to go and mistaking me for another person." I-I probably shouldn’t have lashed out like that, but I was too embarrassed.

"Who?"

I gulped as I straightened my back. ’Why does this feel like I’m being scolded by Miss Valencia but scarier?’ I thought as I took a deep breath. "I-I don’t know! I’ll leave now. Thank you again for what you did!" After yelling, I ran away from him and tripped before reaching the door. Night didn’t say anything, but I could feel my face heating up. ’I want to disappear.’

My knees were trembling due to embarrassment as I got up from the floor. "I-I stepped on my dress," I said as an excuse even though my dress was above the knee, so there’s no way that could happen. With that, I opened the door and rushed out of his room.

I ran towards my room. And as soon as I arrived, I slammed my body onto the bed. I covered my face with a pillow. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

That was so embarrassing! I should have thanked him later instead of going to his room like that. How am I going to face him now? He’ll scoff and laugh at me! I know he’ll do it because he despises me so much.

"Young miss? Are you okay?" I heard Rika enter the room. "Why are you covering your face with a pillow?"

I can’t say that I humiliated myself in front of their young master, for I don’t know how many times now. "Were you able to thank the young master?" Rika asked as she placed the tray with the beverage on my desk. That reminds me.

"Do you know who Shiho is?"

Rika flinched after hearing that name. ’Why would she flinch like that?’
