I felt Alpha Jaxon's fingers shiver with such a wide range of emotions. How could an Alpha be afraid of someone else's voice? When I looked down, he was barely clenching his fist and I was afraid to hold his hand because he appeared terrified, but I did it in the end.
He raised his gaze to mine, and his blue eyes were caught between going blue and turning red. It was a cloud watching his eyes and his troubled countenance. In a split second, his eyes turned into a blue sea as he felt my fingers clamped around his. I was about to check who made him look like this when he obstructed my vision with his wide chest. When he lowered his head and crammed it on my neck, his grip on my fingers tightened, as a result, my pupils dilated.
"So peaceful... so sweet." Like lightning, his air struck my side of the neck. He sniffed it and played my collarbone with his finger as if no one had called him down the stairs.
"It tickles, A-Alpha Jaxon."
“Hmm?”
It gave me a strange feeling to see Alpha Jaxon act like this. A scaredy cat had taken the place of the fearsome wolf. Who'd believe it?
"There is someone... who called you... ah," I groaned. He licked my adams apple and pinched the bathrobe where my nipple was situated before I could finish my sentence.
"I let you go this time, but there will be no next time." He cast a glimpse at my exposed breast before adjusting the bathrobe and making a "Tsk!" sound with his tongue. “Go. Morgan may be seeking you right now."
As I was surprised, he turned his back on me. He took my sanity with him since, as far as I could tell, I had never felt such butterflies on my stomach before—not even when I first fell in love with an Alpha who then vanished…
As I regained my calm, I made a quick step forwards to see who the woman was. However, it was too late because there was no longer any trace of them. My heart was thumped by a sudden agony. My heartbeat thundered softly, and darkness encompassed my mood. Why didn't he allow me to see her? Was there something to conceal— but was there something I should care about?
In the end, I had no choice but to go back to Morgan. It's not my place to mess with their affairs in the first place...but, considering Alpha's reaction, was there something that happened with them in the past?
As I made my way to the chamber, it was not my intention to eavesdrop on the servants as they gathered in a circle with quiet voices. They might have forgotten that the race here were werewolves and could easily hear them no matter how quiet they were.
"Has she actually returned?"
“Yes, time has passed considerably since she left. Who would have believed that after such a long time—"
"Who allowed you to come here and gossip instead of working?" Gamma's voice brought them to a halt, while I stood like a stump.
“G-Gamma.”
“We’re sorry Gamma.” Everyone ran and returned to their tasks, but my sole was still stuck to the floor like there was glue that was put on it. I couldn't even turn my head since it seemed wrong for them to see me listening in on the servants' discussion because of a girl I'd never met yet.
"And you, you little rogue. Are you going to just stand there?"
I slowly swiveled my head, and when I turned around, Uriel's emotionless eyes welcomed me. He looked down from what I was wearing and I felt immense humiliation as he shook his head because what he saw in his eyes was not pleasant. Of course, he remembered me as a virgin, well-dressed, and highly respected woman; seeing me in this manner was undoubtedly foreign to him.
"Gamma Betty, I'll look after her. I know you'll be busy tomorrow and need energy, so get some rest." Uriel bent his head slightly and waited for the Gamma's response.
The Gamma stared down at me, then to Uriel. After a few seconds, she nodded, "Alright, I'll leave her to you now, but bring her to my bedroom before the afternoon arrives because I need to teach her something so that she can be suitable when meeting the Blue Moon Pack at this dinner meeting."
I merely stared at my bare feet and pretended to play with them like a child because I had no idea what they were talking about. As I watched my dirty feet, I realized how unpleasant my look was. Because of how at ease I was, it never occurred to me that the others around me might feel uneasy. How did I get to be such a dolt?
Before I could become too buried in my thoughts, the soothing voice spoke again, "Princess, let me take you to your room."
I flinched a little and looked around just to see that Betty had already left. After a few seconds, I gave Uriel an upward smile and responded, "I'm not a Princess anymore."
I walked away from him and didn’t wait for his reply anymore. Why did we have to meet again in this way when there were so many other ways? Although my childhood best friend stood right in front of me, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at the realization that our intimacy was now split by kilometers after years of being apart— after what my pack did to his family.
“Princess!”
“Princess…!”
“Princess…”
My eyes started to flood up with tears, and I found myself taking a larger stride and speed as if I was trying to get away from the crime I committed. It wasn't until recently that I regained my sight after being blind for a considerable amount of time to the numerous wrongs done by my pack. They did to me what they perpetrated to the smaller individuals whom they stomped on— if there was something I regret, that was not doing anything to their merciless law.
When I got close to the room where we had left Morgan the other night, I was unexpectedly startled by someone pulling my wrist quickly and bringing me back to where I was.
My focus initially went to the hand that was gripping my wrist, and then it made its way slowly up to the scowling face. When I saw Uriel's expression, my brow wrinkled, and I looked at him as if to ask, "What exactly is your problem?" However, suddenly, I became aware of his labored breathing and assumed he was chasing his breath.
"I've been calling you, Veronica."
Along with the tears I had been resisting, my heart finally gave up and fell to the ground. I attempted to keep the sobs from escaping by covering my mouth, but they still escaped despite my attempts, and when I looked at the floor, I realized that he was taking a few small steps in my direction.
As I looked deep into his eyes, I could see a bizarre aura emanating from them.
He extended his hand to wipe away my tears, but as a quick reaction, I was unable to control myself and retreated. Simultaneously, I failed to see the large vase next to the entryway, as a result, I stepped back, accidentally knocked it off, and lost my balance.
I shut my eyes and braced myself for the throw strike, but after a few seconds, nothing had occurred. Slowly, my eyelids opened and the formerly emotionless stare of Uriel was replaced with one of compassion. Because his face was so near to mine, I could feel his breath, and before I could push him away, a masculine figure stepped behind him and spoke in a viciously frigid voice.
"What are the two of you doing?"
