CHAPTER 19 - RICHARD
"Are you fucking serious?" Ray gasps in excitement.
"Yeah. I don't care about that secretary and whatever you do with her ass. You can have her. I don't see why I never let you have her from the onset." I shrug, dusting off a speck of dust on my pants.
"Well, aside from not wanting any office romance, you also think it's kinda disparaging for a Beta of a prestigious pack to get involved with a human."
My eyes shoot up and I'm staring at him confusedly. "The secretary…is a human?"
Ray arches a brow. "You've got to be kidding me."
"Just answer me, dammit. Is she a human?"
"There are over ten thousand workers here and everyone is human. The only werewolves in the building are you and I." Ray clarifies.
"Why didn't I hire any werewolves?"
"Because there are very few werewolves living here. This is human territory. Most of the werewolves live at Hemington."
"What's Hemington?"
"It's like an area. A place with top-notch security to keep humans away. 'cause, in reality, it's our pack."
"We're from Hemington pack?" I repeat, just to be sure. In the other world, the pack was called 'Black Claw Pack'.
"Yeah. It's a revamped name, but it was formerly known as –"
"Black Claw Pack?" I chirped in.
"Yeah. At least you remember that." Ray nods. "But as the world evolved, we had to evolve too. Packs aren't like they used to be back in the years. We try to be a bit more discreet and sophisticated. So we don't expose our supernatural side to humans."
"Okay. If we were being so discreet, why didn't I just erect this company in Hemington? Why did I do it here in the human territory? I'm a fucking Alpha. Why did I leave the pack?"
"Well, when your late grandfather shared his wealth among you and your brothers…"
"Wait. My grandfather or my father?"
"Grandfather." Ray reiterated. "Your father is yet to give your and your brothers any inheritance. He thinks you'll snatch it away from them if he shares it."
"I'm not surprised he'll think that way of me," I mutter. Father has always thought about me as a monster. I try to prove him right most times, 'cause I'm sick and tired of his distrust.
"Yeah. So, when that happened, your brothers got into a tussle for the lands. So you forfeited and came down here to build your empire. They mocked you for your decision, the only support you had was me and the Luna."
"So why do I still treat them nicely after all the madness?"
"Because that's who you are. You're the nicest dude on the planet and you just don't know the first thing about holding grudges."
"All that is about to change soon." I sigh. "The family gathering is held at Hemington, right?"
"Yeah. In less than 12 hours." Ray checks his wristwatch. "I should get going to my office." He stands, grabbing his jacket.
"Wait. Why don't I feel my wolf inside of me?" I ask, suddenly remembering that I haven't heard a word from Parker. I don't even feel him inside me. And Flair did say he's with me in the world.
"Because we're in human territory." He pinpoints. The explanation was short but I didn't ask any further questions. I'll just wait till I go to Hemington.
I glance at the computer in front of me and I don't have the slightest idea of how to make use of it.
"Wait!" I put my hand up, making him halt next to the door. "Do me a favor before leaving."
"Sure. What is it?"
"Come show me how to operate this thing."
He looks at me like what I requested is plain stupid, but still, he comes around and bends to show me how to use it.
But then he pauses and looks at me with a grin. "I'll show you how to use your computer. But on one condition."
"What Is it?"
"I can have the secretary's bouncy ass."
"I already said you can have it, right?"
"Like right now…"
"What?"
"I wanna go eat up her bouncy ass when I leave this office. Is that okay?"
Again, I'm amused by this untamed, casanova side of Ray. His mate, what's that her stupid name? Uh…Ella. Yeah, Ella. She's surely gonna have a cardiac arrest if she ever sees this side of Ray. It's crazy, damn.
"Very. Do what you want." I smile at him.
He chuckles and goes on to show me the basics. It isn't that hard to learn this stuff, 'cause, in a few minutes, I knew my way around it.
"Can I go now?" Ray asks impatiently.
"Sure. Go right ahead." I don't spare him a glance as my gaze is just fixed on the screen.
"Do I make an ad for the soon-to-be vacant secretary position?"
"Uh, sure. Go ahead." I reply dismissively, not giving him much attention.
"Why do you seem so distracted anyways?" He asks.
"I'm trying to find someone.."
"Who's that?"
I look up and I'm met with his curious gaze. His jacket is hanging on his shoulder and his hand is resting on the doorknob.
"Take your nosy ass to your office and go do whatever it is you wanna do with the secretary. But make sure she leaves the company right after." I tell him sternly.
"Alright. Later." He does the peace sign and steps out of my office, shutting the door behind him.
I click on the search button, immediately after he leaves. I type in Jane's name and a total number of 2, 567,301 people pop up. I narrowed it down by searching 'Jane Biller', hoping she has the same last name in this world. I get a total of 551, 770. A whole lot of profiles to go through. This is a stressful way of finding her, but I have no choice. It's worth the try. I badly need to find her.
But I hope she sees the ad and applies for the job instead. That'll be an easier way of finding her. Flair said we'll meet in a few days. A few days seem too long. I wanna make it sooner than that.
Hours later, a knock comes on my door, and before I can reply, Ray walks in. He strolls further and sits on the chair he was sitting in hours ago.
He looks exhausted but in a refreshing way. The grin on his face speaks a lot of how much he enjoyed fucking that broad. Just the thought of it sends a tickle to my dick.
"You ready to leave?" He asks.
"Is it time?" I ask, unsure of when the gathering is supposed to start.
"Not really. We still got two hours but you love being an hour early."
"That changes today. We'll get there an hour late. I still have some things to take care of."
"Whatever you say, weirdo." Ray scoffs with a chuckle. "Have you picked an outfit?"
"No. Do that for me." I tell him, with my gaze on the computer screen, still going through the profiles of different 'Jane Billers'.
"The usual, right?"
"No." I firmly reply. I don't know what the other me's usual is. But I know it's gonna be a clownish outfit with coats and tailored pants with the longest necktie ever. I don't roll like that. "Get me something casual, please. Fitting but casual."
"Don't take this the wrong way, Richard. But are you really okay?" Ray bends forward, dropping his tone to a whisper. "Did you really bump your head into something or is there something else you're not telling me?"
I lean forward, our faces apart by a few inches. "A while ago, you were eager to go fuck the bouncy-assed secretary. It seems you fucked her really good to have enough energy to ask silly questions. I heard her endless screams from here."
Taunting him about the fuck he just had with the secretary is the only comeback I can come up with. Also the only way I can get him off my case. It'll be catastrophic if he keeps asking questions as to why I was acting differently.
Ray gives an uncomfortable chuckle and leans back on the chair. He runs a finger on his brows like it was itching.
"Sorry man, but I don't kiss and tell." He mutters.
"You didn't seem like you wanted to be discreet either. With the way she was yelling…"
"It's not my fault I'm good at fucking bitches. And you don't expect me to stitch her mouth up, do you?"
"Just get out. I'm busy." I dismiss him. He stands and leaves and I return to searching for Jane. I'm on the 100th Jane Biller. Goddess knows how far I have to go before finding her.
