I woke up to mom staring down at me.
"Hey baby," She greeted me with a smile "I've been waiting for you to come around."
"Mom?"
"Yes, you've been asleep for a long while, how are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine, what about you, and your baby? Are you both fine?"
"We are alright."
"Mom, what do you think I should do?" I asked as I sat upright.
"Do whatever your heart tells you, I'll support you no matter what okay."
"You really mean that?"
"Yeah, I've talked to your dad, I reasoned with him but he doesn't want to hear it."
"I'll go talk to him, I don't want to die, especially not when Dario is alive and well."
"I understand how you feel, go talk to him."
"Okay." I looked to my side expecting to see Bel sound asleep but she wasn't next to me anymore.
"She is in the living room playing." Mom answered before I even asked.
"Okay."
"What will you do about her? Where will she stay while you're gone?"
"Can she—"
"No she can't," mom interrupted me "she can't stay here."
"But mom I—"
"You have two choices, put her in an orphanage home or take her with you."
"That place is dangerous, who knows what that place holds—"
"That's exactly why your dad doesn't want you to go."
"I can't take her."
"Then put her in an orphanage home, if you leave her here I'll do that for you."
"Mom plea—"
"No, no way, dinner is ready, I make pounded yam and vegetable soup, come eat then speak to your father afterwards." She said and left.
I got up and went to meet Bel after a while, I found her playing with her toys in the living room.
"Hey sweetie." I said as I walked to her and gave her a kiss on her temple.
"You're awake."
"Yeah, have you eaten tonight?"
"No, I don't like what they cooked."
"I'll make something else for you to eat okay."
"Okay." I left her and went to the kitchen, and made chicken pot pie for her.
"She needs to get used to the kind of food we eat here and she can't do that if she doesn't at least taste the food." Mom said leaning on the door.
"Yeah but—"
"You'll be gone soon, do you think I'll have the strength to make dinner and still make a separate meal for her."
"Why are you acting like this?"
"I'm just telling you, I'm not doing anything bad, she should get used to the kind of food we eat if not when you leave she will starve to death" she walked in and past me "move so I can dish my husband's food." So in return for her supporting me on this, I get this attitude and behavior from her, amazing.
I finished making dinner for Bel and gave her to eat it.
"You're a really good chef Adeemah." She complemented as she downed the remaining of her food and water.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." 'She is so cute.' I cleared where she ate and dished my own food, I'm starving. Mom is a really good cook, the vegetable soup was beyond delicious, it even made me drool through the nose, it was hot and spicy, the perfect combination.
I finished my meal and rested so my food can digest, then I proceeded in marching to dad's room so I can talk him into accepting this, I reached his room and knocked on the door.
"Come in." He responded and I walked in.
"Hey dad."
"Hey honey, how are you feeling?"
"I'm good and you?"
"I'm alright."
"Can we talk?"
"About what?" He seems to be in an okay mood, I hope I'm able to reason with him and this doesn't end badly.
"Earlier, what Mavery said, what's happening to me." I walked further into the room till I was three feet from him.
"What's there to talk about?"
"I want to go to the land of myth and remove my name from the book of death, I don't want to die dad, please, and if I do this I can join forces with those voices and bring down Dario, if I don't go I'll die, but if I do, there is a chance that I'll live." I said calmly.
"Sweetheart, everyone soul will taste death, if you die it means its your time to die, so you don't need to go on any journey to save yourself, you're dying spend the rest of the time you have with your family." He said with a chuckle, his words stung, does he even care about me.
"So you mean to say, if I have cancer and the only way to save me is to get a bone marrow transplant, you'll tell the doctors that I don't need a transplant that if I'm to die then its my time to die, that I should spend the rest of my days with my family? Is that what you're saying?" My eyes welled up, I can't believe my ears.
"Its different, you are to go on a journey that you may not come out alive, that the chances of you succeeding are so slim, you don't know what the land of myth holds, we won't be able to say our—"
"I'm going dad, I'm going to go on this journey and save myself, and bring an end to Dario."
"No you will not!!!", he yelled, I'm sure those outside could here him "you! Will stay right here, you won't go anywhere, and I don't want you to have anything to do with that so called Mavery, understand?!!"
"No! No dad! No!! Mavery is the one that will lead me to the land of myth, she is the one that will tell me where and how to find it, she's the one that is willing and going to help me so no way, there is no way I can stay away from her dad!" I said slightly raising my voice.
"As your father I can make this choices for you, I can tell you what and what not to do, I have that right, so you will not go!!!"
"This is my decision to make dad, and my decision is....I will go to the land of myth, I will dad, I will!!" With that I left the room, I met mom standing at the doorway listening in on everything.
I walked past her to my room, got changed into a jean and top was about to leave through the back door when I spotted mom's phone in the dining room.
I took it, unlocked it, searched for Mavery's contact and gave her a ring, she picked after the second ring.
"Hello." She said in a calm and cool voice.
"Its me Axymah, are you home and where is your house again?"
"The second house a block from yours, and of course I'm home, its not like I have anywhere to go, but why—" I hung up and left the house not before putting mom's phone back, she was probably going to ask why I'm asking but I don't have no time for that.
I gave Dinela and Alero a ring "Hey, come to the second house a block from mine."
"Okay but wh—" I hung up and kept walking to Mavery's house, I got there ten minutes later, 'here goes nothing' I said mentally preparing myself.
I knocked on the door, but no response, I knocked again, same thing, I thought she said she is home, I raised my hand and was about to knock again, but didn't need to as the door opened itself, creepy.
I hope this is not like all those creepy old ladies house that rumor says its hunted and she's a witch.
I let myself in "hello!!" I called out as I walked into the house.
"No yelling in my house," Mavery said as I fully entered the house "shut the door behind you." Her house is gorgeous, but weird and gives off this kind of soothing vibe, her house is small, I'm guessing I'm in the living room, it has three chairs and a centre table made of wood, her house smells of lavender and mint, there are vines or gorgeous lilies flowers decorating the walls of her house, there is a single light bulb which is doing little to nothing to illuminate the house.
"Don't you know its rude to hang up on people?"
"I'm sorry, I was on edge." I wanted to sit on one of the arm chairs but she stopped me.
"Did I invite you to sit?"
"I'm sorry." 'Her house, her rules.'
"So why are you here?"
"I'v decided that I'm going to go on the journey and I'd like you to tell me how long I have left."
"You made a wise and dangerous decision, just know that from here, no turning back."
"Okay."
"And as for how long you have left, trust me you don't want to know."
"But I do."
"If you know you'll be a mess—"
"Please just tell me."
"You have a month left to leave but in the underworld time moves slower there so once you go there you'll have three months to leave."
"Good to know," I said mustering a fake smile, she just looked at me with a blank expressions "my friends will be here soon, please let's wait for them."
"No, I'll tell you all the necessary and give you all the need, time is precious especially yours now that you have very little time left."
"Oh."
"Are you sure you want to take this step? No going b—"
"Yes."
"Fine then......"
