Chapter The truth

Melissa's POV

I sat still not uttering a word, my stare fixed on Nelson who appeared like he was about to shred me into pieces. I couldn't help but feel a little scared around him, those gorgeous eyes of his hunted me deep into my soul.

I decided not to say a word at all but kept mute as I slowly bowed my head in total silence.

Nelson watched me with an heavy breath, although I could feel his intense stare on me, I still choose to act dumb, whatever business he had with Viviana is absolutely none of my business, they must have had this going on long before I joined the pack do it shouldn't be any surprise to me.

"Listen" I heard Nelson let out, sharp and clear, "Whatever you just saw is none of your business, after all, we were never in love neither were you happy that you got married to a werewolf. We both live a different life and it will be best you stay completely off mine" he warned without any trace of being apologetic.

I felt so disgusted and pure anger began to rise inside me, gently, I raised my gaze at him, his eyes pierced deep inside mine and I saw how serious he appeared, this is to prove how serious he takes his words.

Quickly I looked away and Nelson walked out of the room leaving me.

"Shit!" I yelled out loud in anger as I laid on the bed, my eyes fixed to the ceiling. Having caught him cheating and talking to me like I am a piece of trash really made me so pissed off that I was about to lose it in the most possible way.

Soon, I went down for dinner and to my surprise, Nelson and Viviana were not seen, they didn't come for dinner and instead of me feeling pissed about it, I felt a bit relieved not having Viviana's face stuck on me and Nelson sitting so close that it hurt.

After dinner, I went back into the chamber, had Patricia bathe me as I lay still, soliloquizing in wonder.

After the bath, I got into my night dress and laid on the bed with the second book as I tried my best to finish it up as quickly as I could.

The next day came faster than I expected, I found myself on the way to the library with the key stuck to my hand. Right now, it feels like that is the only place in the pack I can find my peace of mind and not think of how worthless I am.

"I never knew you would be here before me" I spoke out as soon as I saw Conri waiting patiently next to the door.

"You are late" he uttered with a raised brow, he bit through an apple and focused his attention back on me.

"I am?"

"Yes you are"

"I didn't realize that" I smiled unlocking the door.

"I have been waiting for fifteen minutes Melissa"

I laughed as we both walked into the library, "Then I must say that you are fifteen minutes early" I noted and Conri couldn't help but smile.

"Seems you are really enjoying this Melissa" Conri spoke as we took our seats, his eyes not leaving me.

Today, he wore his black cloak as usual and his long hair flowed endlessly making him more attractive than he had been.

"Let's just say I see here as my hiding spot" I responded, placing the book next to him.

"Your hiding spot?"

"Yes of course. Everyone thinks I am an imposter, nothing good to write home about and….."

"Including your husband Nelson?" Conri suddenly asked.

I paused with my words, looked away from him and shook my head, "I don't know what to say concerned Nelson"

"Why?"

"I just…." I let out a deep long breath shaking my head, "I don't feel we are both compatible yet, maybe things will get better with time" I replied looking up at him.

Conri didn't say a word but stared at me like his life depended on it. Obviously, he had thoughts going through his head but decided to say nothing.

"Nelson isn't as bad as you think Melissa" he finally spoke out.

"Don't say that"

"Why?"

"I don't want to know. Right now, I am just here to get things done and prove myself acceptable and not to please anyone. Enough of Nelson talk already, it's making my head spin" I confessed.

"So, what book am I reading for today?" I inquired about changing the topic.

"Well…" Conri paused scanning around. He got on his feet, a strange look on his face, "Let's do something different today Melissa"

"Something different? Like what?"

"Follow me," Conri said and began to walk towards the door.

I quickly followed suit confused, "Where are we heading to?"

"Just for sightseeing, there are some places present here in the pack you are yet to see, it will be nice to show you around" he replied.

Together with Conri, we got out of the library, walked down the hallway and out of the building.

To my surprise, the pack is bigger than I had ever imagined.

"It's beautiful in here" I muttered with a look of disbelief written all over my face.

A chuckle escaped from Conri who walked side by side, "Yeah it is, there are lots of things you have to know about. But you don't have to worry about that, I will show you all and give you very details about it all" he assured me and I couldn't help but smile, my heart filled with joy.

I and Conri strolled through many places, to the royal kitchen, slaughterhouse and including different halls for so many activities.

As thrilled as I was, I couldn't help but feel pleased, delighted and thrown over the edge.

"I never knew the pack has so much beauty" I admitted as we both walked into a large empty hall.

The hall was as beautiful as ever, decorated with so many designs and large enough to contain more than a hundred people.

"This is the hall used for the after party after the coronation of a new Alpha and Luna" Conri revealed.

"Is the Coronation done here?"

"No, it's been done outside and everything is being concentrated by the moon goddess"

Confused, I took to my halt and turned to Conri, "The moon goddess?"

"Yes Melissa, the moon goddess"

"Who is she ?"

Conri turned to me, "She is more like a god for we werewolves. She guides every Alpha especially the Luna, you will tend to have a lot in common with her as soon as you are crown the Luna"

As complicated as it sounds, I nodded even though I am yet to understand it at all.

"Don't worry, you don't have to look so confused Melissa, when everything begin to happen, you will understand it all without anyone explaining it to you" he walked closer to me and to my surprise placed a hand on my shoulder, his eyes were so comforting that I couldn't help but smile as his assuring words.

The sound of approaching footsteps alerted us, looking up, to my surprise, I saw Nelson walking into the hall with two other men. He looked very surprised to see me and Conri together, he glanced at me and averted his gaze to Conri who let go of my shoulder.

"Good to see you Nelson" Conri spoke out, his gaze fixed on Nelson two, both men stared at themselves.

"Long time my friend, I never knew you were back here in the pack" Nelson said and took a step closer to Conri.

"Came back some days prior, you must have been too busy to notice"

"Of course…" Nelson eyes left Conri and rested on me, "It's surprising that you have already met Melissa"

"Your mate Nelson"

"Whatever you call it," Nelson replied sternly, "Well, it's good to have you back, I will need to see you privately later today, you are going to be the next Beta of this pack. Do it's best we get along better."

"I will be at your service when you need me," Conri replied.

"You better do"

Saying this, Nelson walked out of the hat along with the other men who followed him.

"Is he always this bittered?" I suddenly ask, breaking the silence, my eyes not leaving the door he walked past.

"Nelson will always be Nelson," Conri said, shrugging his shoulders.

"I hate his guts"

"He is your mate Melissa"

"I don't care"

Conri raised a brow, "Why?"

The image of Nelson and Viviana kissing flashed through my mind, I looked away from Conri and shook my head.

"It's nothing, let's get back to what we were doing" I uttered.

The rest of the lessons went by fine except that I couldn't get the thought of Nelson's affair with Viviana off my mind. To be truthful, it was slowly eating me up with every little thought and I needed someone to talk to, someone like Anabelle.

With my blue gown, I walked towards the garden hoping to find Anabelle there. To my luck, I did and the moment she saw me walking towards her, a smile glued to her face.

"Good to see you again Melissa" She hugged me and gestured to me to take a seat next to her.

The maid who stood waiting brought a clean tea cup, placed it on the table next to where I sat and poured some tea into it.

The aroma was so nice that I could resist, I took a sip and looked up at Anabelle who watched me.

"Mint"

Anabelle laughs, "Do you love it?"

"I love minted tea Anabella, just my type"

"I am glad to hear this. Conri told me that you are getting really better with the lesson, how true is that?"

"Yeah, he is right," I admitted while taking another sip, "Conri is really a nice teacher, I guess I do have to call him that. He is way eager to teach me and answer all questions I ask but…" I let out a heavy breath, placed the tea cup gently and looked up at Anabelle.

"Is something wrong Melissa? Are you alright?" She asked, sitting up.

"I will be lying if I say that I am"

"What is the problem?" Anabelle inquired, looking so concerned, her eyes softened as she placed her palm on mine, "Come on, you know that I am your friend, I want the best for you Melissa that's why I got Conri involved in all of these. So trust me, you can tell me everything in case you don't have anyone to let out the burden to" she assured with so much hospitality in her.

"I don't know Annabelle"

Gently, she placed my hands in hers and stroke it softly, "Come on, talk to me, it's best you let out your sorrow, remember that a problem shared is a problem solved"

I stared at her for a while, trusting people so easily is nothing in my agenda. Down with my step mother and sister, they have taught me the agony of life in the most unimaginable way any human can go through. But Anabelle, she has been so nice to me ever since I arrived here, she is the only one willing to help and it won't be bad pouring this to her.

"I need the truth" I spoke out watching her.

"Then the truth you shall find Melissa" Anabelle assured.

So many unspoken words began to travel through my mind, my head was spinning around with endless thoughts and I couldn't help but bite my lower lip until I knew I was already bleeding.

A soft wind blew past us, shoving my hair into different directions.

"Annabelle"

"Yes…" she stretched her words waiting patiently for me to utter my burden.

"It's about your brother Nelson" I finally spoke out.

Confused, Anabelle narrowed her gaze at me, "What did he do? Did he hurt you or say hurtful words?"

I looked up at her, "He baths me daily with his hurtful words but there is something more that I already know about"

"And what's that?"

I paused, glanced at the tea cup and back at Anabelle, "It's about Nelson, I think he is having an affair with Viviana" I revealed with flickering eyes.
