Nelson's POV
The ray of sunlight pierced through my skin, slowly, I opened my eyes realizing it's another day, another day given to me to find out who this traitor is.
Averting my gaze to the other side, my eyes fell on Melissa who slept soundly, her body facing the other side of the bed.
Rubbing my eyes as the event of last night crawled into me, I shrugged and shook my head as a way to let it go . Of course, I have a bigger problem to face at the moment and I must leave the park this morning.
I got out of bed, walked towards a nearby mirror and glared at my reflection. My hair was scattered in different directions but my eyes were sharp enough to start the day. I won't let this pass by me without accomplishing what I want. My mind is made up, no one will stop me from going into this, I must achieve this as soon as possible.
Not wanting to waste any more minutes back in the pack, I walked into the bathroom and quickly had a fresh bath. My clothes for the day had been nearly folded and made ready by the maids the previous night and without waiting for a sec, I found myself already dressed, glanced at the sleeping Melissa and without uttering a word, I walked out of the room heading towards the hallway.
"Are you sure that you want to do this Alpha?" Conri asked as I walked into the large hall.
Already, he has been waiting for my arrival and he thought that maybe it's not too late for him to convince me not to go into it.
"Conri, we talked about this yesterday, I have to leave" I noted sternly looking away from him.
"This is a bad decision Alpha"
"Then leave me to carry the cross alone"
"I can't," he asserted strongly and more stubbornly this time.
"Listen Conri, I am doing this for the betterment of this pack. You know that I can lay down my life for my subjects but having been made a fool by one of my men, this is something I won't accept at all…" I paused, anger streaming down my veins, "I just can't wait to find out who this traitor is, I won't waste time in digging my hand deep into his chest and rip his heart out of his body. No one ever betrays me and lives to tell it, I swear in conjunction with the moon goddess whom we serve, I will make him pay, him and his generation" I said strongly, deep rage boiling inside of me.
"I know how angry you are Alpha, I am too but we have to take some precautions to avoid certain untold tales" Conri spoke out, his gaze not letting go of me at all, "I won't stop you from doing what you want, you are the Alpha and I solely trust your words, your decisions are always finally but this has to be rethinked." He paused, took some steps closer to me as we stood close to each other, "If you want to go, then take me with you, let's do this together, I can't just sit and watch you go into a slaughtering site without trying to stop you. I am your Beta, I am also your friend, I can't let you do this alone Nelson, no way are you going there without me or some of the guards to protect you in case you get seen by those werewolves. If you go alone and get discovered, it won't take time for them to outnumber you and get you killed"
"You speak like I am going there to wage war upon them" I spoke out, my gaze still fixed on him this time.
"No Alpha, I know that you are going there for peace and not war"
"Then why are you trying to stop me, Conri?" I still watched him.
"I am not, never will I. I am just saying that you need to go with me or one of the guards just for your safety. We can't risk losing you not when you haven't been made Alpha yet"
Nodding, I walked closer to him, placed my hand on his left shoulder and patted him.
"I understand that you are trying to protect me, I know this clearly but mind you, I am not going there to wage war with the hunters. They won't even have an idea that I am present with them at the crossroad, all that I am going there is to find a hideout, take refuge and wait till they come around so that I can discover who this traitor is. Nothing else! You speak like you don't know me better Conri, I am more smarter to let my presence known to them, I don't let such happen, trust me"
Conri stared at me in disbelief, he still couldn't believe that I was so adamant with this decision of mine. It didn't please him at all and I don't blame him. He is doing all he can to protect me from the hands of our rival but there is nothing he can do to change my mind.
"Let me go with you" he said softly, this time, it was more like a plea.
"We have already discussed about this Conri, I will go alone"
"But you can't..."
"Enough Conri!" I spoke out loudly, my voice echoed as we glared at each other, "Stay back and wait for my return, this is an order from your Alpha and you have no other choice but to obey this! Enough of this discussion already, it's best you leave now, I will want to have a talk with Tinox before I leave" I said turning around at Tinox who stood at the door post this whole time listening to I and Conri discussion.
"I never knew that you can easily detect my presence, Prince Nelson" Tinox spoke out with an expressionless face. .
"We do have a sharp sense of smell, Tinox, I hope you haven't forgotten about that," I pointed out as a guard walked in and handed me my black cloak. Putting it on, I looked up at Conri who looked very displeased but couldn't say a word to stop me. I understand clearly how he feels but this is a challenge I must face alone and not drag him into it.
"Good to see you Tinox" Conri acknowledged and without waiting for a second, he walked out of the hall leaving Tinox and I.
"Your beta is right Prince Nelson, he does have a valid point on noting how risky this part you are about to dive in is. Remember that you are not made Alpha yet, if you are seen by the hunters, they won't think twice and kill you. It's best you go with backups, no mortal or beast is an island on his own'' Tinox emphasized.
"I understand your care Tinox, if I don't, cm my a blood sucking liar. But right now, I don't need my men, they will only attract the presence of the hunters. Once I get to see who this Traitor is, I will leave, you should trust me on this"
Tinox stared at me with cold eyes, "I am not in support of this decision prince Nelson, not at all. Anyway, I trust your words and I believe that you shall return back to the pack safely. But…" he paused, giving me a hard look, "it's not too late now to change your decision or let your Beta and some guards accompany you. We don't want to lose our Alpha so it's best you rethink your decision and do what you think is nothing but the best"
I didn't say a word but nodded. No way, my mind is made up already and I am not backing out on my words.
"Thank you for your concern Tinox, but this is a decision I can't go back on. I am sorry" saying this, I walked out of the hall, my footsteps clung onto my ears.
