Chapter Mental state

Thor's POV

My mate is acting strange and it scares me. Something is seriously wrong with her. I was confused at first when she started speaking nicely to me. I mean I know I want her to forgive me but considering what she thought I did to her, I wasn't expecting her forgiveness to come that easily. At least not before we had the chance to talk it out.

Then she said I look different and I know right then that something I s seriously wrong with her. I mean, everyone knows I've always had this particular look and never even considered changing it.

Recalling her words...

'You let your hair grow out like it was before when we just met. It doesn't matter to me how you choose to wear it though. I love it both ways...'

'How long was I out for this time?... How's everyone?... How's the baby? Martha is taking care of him I presume?'

My heart sinks

'Martha is taking care of him!?'... But Martha is dead! And the pregnancy was not even three months when she miscarried so how could she refer to the fetus as a 'him'?

I fear, then. I fear greatly for her mental state. Has the miscarriage affected her mental health that much?

My heart aches when I recall more of her words...

'I should apologize for not listening when you suggested I learn how to control my wolf... I hope I didn't hurt anyone that day.'

This is too much for me to comprehend. I have to see Anders

"Uhmm– let me quickly get the doctor to give you a check-up, hmm? I'll only be a minute." I say, give her a quick kiss, and hurry out before she suspects something.

Anders is not in his new room. I go downstairs to look for him and find him in the dining room having dinner. Thankfully the seer is also there with him.

"She's awake?" I haven't even said anything when he asks, immediately, pushing his plate aside.

"Yes, she's awake and she appeared fine. She even told me she's fine."

"If she's fine then why do you look so worried?" He asks, his brows furrow with worry

I sigh

"Because even though she looked fine, she didn't sound fine!..." I reply and begin to pace around the room as I explain further

"Before she fell unconscious, she told me hated me because of what happened between us! Even threatened to reject me but now she's suddenly acting like we're a loving couple! She even said she loves me!"

"I don't see how that's a problem. Maybe she forgave you already. Shouldn't you be glad, though?" The Seer says

"No, you don't understand..." I say and explain the short conversation I had with Ash to them.

While I talk, the seer cocks his head aside like he always does whenever he's listening or seriously thinking about something.

"There's nothing wrong with her..." He says

"Really?" I ask with a ray of hope.

"Yes– I think Moon goddess just showed her a bit of her future through her dream and she's still unconsciously living in it even though she's wide awake. I think she refused to fully wake up from the dream because she likes the life she saw in her dream better than what's presently happening in real life..."

He stops talking to look from my face to Anders like he wants to be sure we're getting his theory.

"Huh?– no!" Anders says, his eyes narrow in disagreement. I can see he doesn't agree with the seer's theory.

"That condition could be triggered by the trauma of having a miscarriage..."

"Well, I'm not a psychologist so I wouldn't know if she's indeed traumatized or not..." The seer interrupts Anders. "Based on what you explained just now, I'm sure she had a dream about the future and even though she's wide awake, she's still living in dreamland."

I exhale

"Are you sure about this, Uncle Leif?" I ask.

He doesn't answer my question, instead, he looks surprised by how I addressed him. He's my mom's and Uncle's cousin and I've always addressed him as the Seer. No wonder he looks surprised.

"If Moon goddess showed her the future then could it be– my Luna is also going to be my seer?" I ask, anticipating a positive response but he rolls his eyes upward at me.

"No, you impatient man! Your Luna is not going to be your seer! If you don't believe my theory then let's carry out a little test on her."

"Test? What test?" Anders asks, frowning disapprovingly at him.

"It's nothing medical, doctor, relax!" He replies to Anders before turning his attention back to me.

"She hasn't met your dad before has she?"

"No, they've not met"

"Then let's go with your dad and check on her. If she recognizes any of us then you'll know what I said is true."

I scoff

"This is ridiculous! If only the seers are given the gift of seeing the future and not Luna, why is your Moon goddess messing with us then!?" I grumble, upset by the whole situation.

"Have faith, Thor. It's all for the best. If Moon goddess hadn't shown her the future do you think she would have kissed you when she woke up?"

"I still don't believe in your theory, Seer," Anders says

"Then I guess we shall see when she finally gets to meet everyone..." The Seer replies

"We shall see then, but before then, Anders, won't you come check on her?" I say

"Of course," Anders replies and gets up.

"I should go update everyone on her condition then." The Seer also gets up, abandoning his barely eaten food.

"Hey, Uncle Leif," I call him when he's almost at the door and he turns back.

"Yes?"

"This is the time we'll find out if you're gonna die any time soon or not. If she doesn't recognize you then I guess you won't need more persuasion before you can tell me how to get to that witch, right?" I say and his face darkens.

I chuckle

"Oh my, Uncle, is that worry I see on your face!?" I exclaim with a fake serious expression. "Didn't you say you're not going to die soon?... Please get that address ready. If Ash doesn't recognize you, who knows the exact day or time you'll kick the bucket?" I say casually

Anders burst out in laughter as we both walked out of the dining room.

"Fucking American!" I hear him growl and I laugh

When I return to my room, I meet Ash trying to stand up from the bed and I rush to her...

"Hey! What do you think you're doing? I told you I'll only be gone for a moment. I'm here with the doctor. You should have waited for me, what if you fall on your..."

She places a quick kiss on my lips, shutting me up mid-sentence.

"Don't be a worrywart, I'm fine. I just want to go to the bathroom. I'm kinda feeling clammy down there. I think I got my period or something."

My heart thumps. She doesn't remember she miscarried. She thinks she got her period. God, this is getting more serious.

"Oh– yes, about that. You're wearing a pad so you need not worry about that."

"Oh, is that so... I also want to pee but I guess it can wait for a few minutes that it would take the doctor to do his check-up." She says and sits down

"Yeah..." I reply and walk back to the door to ask Anders in.

How do I fix this mess if the seer turns out to be right? How do I tell her she had a miscarriage and not on her period!? How do I explain to her she's still living in a dream? We don't have a son and Martha has been dead for about three weeks now.

"Luna..." Anders greets with a slight bow the moment he walks in.

"Doctor Anders. Thank you for taking care of me." She says and my heart thumps harder.

Anders' perfect smile falters and almost trips himself with his own leg out of shock. The seer is right as always. My mate indeed had a dream about the future and is still living in her dream.

I watch as he checks her vitals all over again and the moment he starts putting his medical instrument away, I ask through our mind link...

'So?...'

I don't want Ash to hear his reply if it turns out to be bad news.

'Everything is fine. Body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure. It's amazing how quickly she recovers. I'm ashamed to admit that the Seer is right. I'll just ask her a few questions to be extra sure we're on the right track here.' He replies through the link as he removes the empty IV bag and line.

"You're frowning, Doctor Anders, is everything okay?" Ash asks and my body stiffens. I wonder if she's coming back to her senses already.

"Oh, no, no! Everything is fine Luna. I just have a few questions for you and then we're done here."

"Sure, ask away then..."

"Okay, for how long do you think you've been unconscious?" He asks

She chuckles

"There's no way for me to know that Doctor but considering the changes I'm seeing around me, I will say it's been months this time. Which is strange because, as you know, this always happens after I shift to my wolf. The highest I've ever been unconscious was about twelve hours. Right baby?" She turns to ask me for confirmation and I have no other choice than to nod my head

"Yes..." I reply

"Great... Uhm, how old are you right now?"

"What?..." She chuckles in disbelief before looking toward me.

"Babe?" She says, looking questioningly at me before turning back to Anders

"Are you saying something is wrong with my brain without actually saying it?"

"Oh no, Luna. Far from it. It's just normal questions that I need to ask to further make sure everything is okay. You said it yourself that you've been unconscious far longer than before. These questions are necessary, you understand."

"Hmm..." She says, before turning her gaze back to me.

"I'm twenty-two years old... If you're sure everything is okay then you need to excuse me right now. I need to go to the bathroom."

"Of course..." Anders says and picks up his bag.

"Anders, please help tell everyone that, the Luna is awake and we'll be joining them for dinner when we're done here."

"Yes, Alpha." He replies with a bow and leaves.
