Chapter 38

Diana badly struck a point they could not refute.

Yolanda stuttered for a few seconds. What was she going to say to free herself? Truthfully she had taken the guns but she could not admit that to Jasyn. At least not in front of everyone. Maybe she could when she was alone with Jasyn and she knew she could try and salvage the situation, plead with him, cajole and coerce him in case he refused to be cajoled, to forgive her.

"Yolanda." Jasyn sighed. "Theo, take care of these three. Julitta, you may return to your dorm."

"Yes, commander." Julitta saluted and left. Theodore took Alita, Itzel, and Alva with him. Jasyn looked from Yolanda to Diana. Whereas Diana was confident and laid-back even in her expression, Yolanda was almost white. She was so afraid that she began to turn white.

Jasyn already knew who was at fault and he wanted to punish her, at least to prove to Diana that he was a just man. But somehow his guts told him that Diana didn't care about the outcome of the matter, she was simply enjoying the scene and that was all it was to her, fun.

"Yolanda..." He began. "Tell me why you did it and I will consider sparing you."

Yolanda shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "Jasyn, I... I... Didn't..."

Diana didn't know when a chuckle escaped her mouth. Jasyn glared at her. She covered her mouth, apologizing with her eyes. Jasyn could still see the amusement in her eyes so he shook his head a little.

"Go on Yolanda," he urged.

Yolanda stared at Diana. "Could she leave? I would like to speak to you alone."

Before Jasyn could refute this, Diana stood up and walked out of the office. She was going to give them privacy and of course, that was because she could still hear whatever they were going to talk about. Not like she was going to say anything, she wasn't. She was going to respect their privacy.

While Diana stood outside the office, she sighted Theodore coming her way, smiling sweetly at her. She smiled in return, unwillingly too. She just couldn't help returning his smile.

"Diana..." He called. "You were so cool in there. I like the fact that you aren't intimidated by her method of expressing herself!"

Diana chuckled. "This is rather a feeble attempt at bonding; don't you think it's beneath you?"

Theodore shrugged. "People might see themselves as high and mighty but what truly makes you high is the relationship you have with the people you assume to be beneath you."

"They would be the ones to defend you later on."

"What gave you that impression?"

"Take, for instance, your relationship with Julitta." He said. "Julitta isn't someone you've known very long, I must say. Your relationship with her could just be nearing a year or two at most."

"Two," Diana replied.

"Good. Now, when it comes to skill, wits, and talent, you seem better than she is. Beauty too." He said.

"That was unnecessary," Diana murmured.

He only smiled. "You are above her, also because you are... Umm, you have a special type of blood I guess-"

"I'm what you are," Diana said, sighing exasperatedly. There was no way she could hide who she was and she was proud of it. The only issue was, in an army that was full of humans who were afraid of werewolves and had the instinct to kill on sight, she was supposed to be careful.

"Good. That makes you above her. But you consider her a friend, don't you?"

"Soul sister." She corrected.

"Beautiful!" Theodore praised. "Now we can rest assured that with this, you have won her over. That means if you're ever in danger or in a situation where you need someone to swear that you're right, you don't have to worry since she's alive."

"I guess that makes sense." She muttered. "This lady, tell me about her."

"Who?"

"Yolanda."

"Yolanda came from a wealthy family that's as ancient as the country-"

"The Edgars, I know that part." Diana interrupted.

Theodore was quite surprised. "You didn't tell me you were a fan of history."

"If I wanted to study something as boring as history, I would at least find something that could spark an interest in me." Diana refuted. "Yolanda is as boring as the word in itself."

Theodore laughed heartily. Diana was mesmerized by the sound of his laughter. It sounded so sweet, almost like music that soothed her nerves and she calmed and relaxed instantly.

"You're so funny." He commented.

"You don't say," Diana murmured.

He smiled. "So tell me then, how did you get to know about it?"

"Yolanda isn't humble. She likes to brag about the things she has, and the things she thinks she has." Diana said. She was referring to her relationship with Jasyn. Yolanda assumed that she and Jasyn were in a relationship without knowing that the man wasn't at all interested in her.

"Very true. But how were you able to read her? That too very quickly?"

"As I said, Yolanda brags a lot," Diana answered. "She prides in things she hasn't achieved herself and that's where her problems tend to stem up from."

"You're so wise." Theodore complimented. "How can you have so much wisdom?"

Diana smiled. Serving Calhoun might have been disastrous and depressing at the same time, but she had at least been able to pick up bits and pieces of his wisdom.

At least she learned how to twist people's words to soothe the situation, especially in her favor. She had learned how to handle so many different issues and how to detect what people felt just by being close to them.

That was one of the reasons she could serve him so well, she had mastered how his eyebrows would knit together slightly when he was deep in thought, how he would sigh softly and almost inaudibly when he was stressed out.

Or how his eyes would begin to glow when he was filled with rage. How he would glance at her from time to time when he needed her physically, or how he would glare at her when he needed solitude.

"Diana..." Theodore called, waving his hand in her face. The woman blinked twice and regained her composure. She couldn't believe she had once again begun to daydream about Calhoun.

"I'm sorry, I just had this flashback thingy." She said cheekily. "Wisdom comes when you choose to learn from the wise."

"Your father?"

"No, my baby's father," Diana answered. Theodore smiled painfully. "Are you married to him?"

"Not at all," Diana said. "Never married, it just happened."

Theodore calmed down instantly. His heart was already going into a frenzy, knowing that there was a chance he could lose her even before she became his.

"You're beautiful, Diana."

"You have said that before."

"I can't stop saying it, you're too beautiful."

Diana stared at him. "Thank you."

"I hope that one day, we can be friends, really close friends." He said. "Then one day, we can even be more than friends."

"You're too bold for your good," Diana whispered. She knew what kind of man Calhoun was. If indeed he had found her, he could come anytime to claim her. If he found out she was with another man, he could cause more than a tsunami.

"I heard love does strange things to people," Theodore replied. "Perhaps this is one of them."

Diana chuckled. "Love is a sick feeling, it will get you hurt and sometimes killed."

"It's better to die in love than in battle." He said, shrugging. Although he was a soldier who was passionate about his work, it was simply because it gave him the freedom to express his wolf abilities without being judged.

"I will only hurt you, Theo," Diana said. Theodore grabbed her hand softly, raising it to his gaze. He returned his gaze to her and kissed her softly on the back of her hand.

"Even if you drive a knife into my chest, a knife laced with poison, potential enough to kill the strongest werewolf, I will die; happy that I was killed by the one woman I loved."

"I will be happy I got to experience love with someone as awesome as you."

"Theo, you have only met me today," Diana exclaimed. She was more than surprised at his bold words. How could he say such sweet words to her after knowing her for a few hours a day? Had he known her before this time? Did he ever meet her somewhere? What could she address this as? What could she even reply to him?

"Calm down Diana..." Theodore chuckled. "I'm not telling you to accept me now. I'm not saying you must love me now, I am only letting you know that setting my eyes on you made me know that I could still recognize beauty."

"Made me understand that there is amazement in this world, and not just beyond. Diana, I can read your soul through those pretty orbs of yours."

"I can tell how much of an amazing woman you are and even if your baby's father did not see it, or failed to treat you right, I want you to understand that I will never make the same mistake as he did."

"I will only cherish you, forever." He swore.

"And if I ever got to meet him, I will thank him for being so stupid to let you go, because that way, he allowed me to meet you and perhaps have you as well."

Diana was more than shocked. She was speechless, she simply took her hands away from his and turned to return to her dorm. She had no words to refute him. She had nothing to say. She wasn't even planning to say anything. Theodore's words had given her goosebumps and made her heart feel like someone poured jelly and released bees to lick them up. She couldn't calm it down.

Theodore stood there, watching her leave. Someone came up behind him.

"Did she accept you?"

"No." He replied.

"So she rejected you?"

"No." He said again.

"Then why did she leave?"

"Because I might have done too much," Theodore said with a sigh.

"Is that bad?" The man asked. "Don't you think it's a good thing?"

"How so?"

"Well because she will give it a lot of thought, and when she gets fed up, she will want to forget the things you have said, or just sweep them under the carpet and she will realize that you said so much that she cannot seem to forget at once."

"Huh?"

"Yes, and then she will begin to think about you, how you looked while confessing such sweet words to her - wait, they were sweet right?"

"Of course!" Theodore clamored. "Would I have told her painful or bland words?"

"Well, I can't seem to trust any of you.

Jasyn did something even worse when he wanted to woo the previous assistant commander who has now become Eugene's PA."

"That was so silly back then," Theodore said, chortling.

"Yeah, so she will think about them and eventually she will want to accept you." He said. "Rest assured she will not accept you immediately. It will take days, weeks, months, perhaps a year or two even."

"I'm ready to wait... I'm in the long game."

"Better."

Jasyn came out from his office to find Theodore and his fellow commander standing, gossiping.

"What are you two standing there talking about, huh?" He demanded icily. He was angry and they could see it. What had gotten him so angry? "Where is Diana?"

"She, uh, returned to her dorm. Supposedly."

Theodore answered. "She did go that way."

Jasyn huffed angrily. He turned to follow her.

"Wait wait, what happened?" Theodore inquired. Jasyn only glared at him without answering.

Yolanda came out after Jasyn had left, looking very sad and a little angry.

"Yolanda, what happened?" Theodore asked. "Why is Jasyn so angry? Why is he marching to Diana's dorm?!"

"How should I know?" Yolanda snapped. "Ask that vixen of a woman! I bet this was all she wanted, to seduce Jasyn. She had better be prepared to satisfy him now."

"I hope he tears her to pieces in bed too!" She exclaimed and ran off.

Theodore and his friend shared a look. What did she mean by tearing her in bed?
