Chapter 69

The fog began to clear a little and Diana peered in closer.

The Wisteria soldiers knew that Calhoun had something up his sleeve, they waited for his instructions but they had also watched him being shot. They didn't have guns, they used swords and relied on their heightened abilities to dodge the bullets.

Calhoun appeared right beside them. "Ready?"

"Let's march out!"

The soldiers ran out with a loud shout. The soldiers that stood before the gates were slaughtered as the warriors passed by them. Julitta gagged at the gore sight before her.

"What the hell?!"

"Shut up, they will hear you," Diana whispered. "Watch what a werewolf battle feels like."

Jasyn had watched them get killed. He knew that that was Calhoun whom they had shot. He wondered if the man had died so easily. He had heard so much about Calhoun he didn't want to believe that the man had died so easily.

Yolanda came up behind him. "That sly man."

Jasyn glanced at her. "What are you doing here? You are supposed to take your soldiers to fight after Theodore's."

"I know," Yolanda said. "But it should take longer for them to get past Theo. The man is a beast."

Jasyn sighed. "What are you trying to imply now?"

"Nothing. The heat of this war is making me feel something." Yolanda said. She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.

Jasyn chuckled. "Now is not the time, Yolanda. This war is so important to me, I can only feel tension."

"Let me ease your tension." She whispered, staring into his eyes. Her hand went up to his face and slid down to his chest. Jasyn stopped her.

"Now. Is. Not. The. Time. Yolanda." Jasyn said through gritted teeth.

Yolanda freed herself, smiling awkwardly. She turned and left him there. Jasyn sighed. How could the woman be thinking about something like that at a time like this?

He watched as Diana's soldiers fell to the ground dead. Hal's group was the next. Hal was a strong commander and he had strategies. He placed Hal second because he knew that even if Hal didn't emerge victorious, he could tire the Wisteria warriors.

Diana stayed in the same place with Julitta, watching the battle.

"D, Jasyn will soon begin to search for us. We have to go." Julitta said. " We have to join in the fight."

Diana smirked. "Fine, let's meet them."

Both of them got up and ran out of their hiding place to join in the fight. Diana joined for the fun of it. She liked the feeling of an adrenaline rush. They also felt like seeing the blood-stained snowy ground.

"Be careful, there are some places that could sink you and get you covered with snow," Diana said. "Follow me."

Julitta followed her behind, putting her legs where Diana had placed hers.

They joined in the fight. Hal's group was strong, battling with swords rather than guns. It was a fight of swords.

"These are all the Wisteria warriors?" Julitta asked as her sword clanged against someone else's. She wasn't even bothered with who she fought, all she wanted to do was stay alive while living in the moment.

"Calhoun is smarter than that." She said, A warrior glanced at her when he heard what she said. His eyes widened as he saw who it was, he got momentarily stunned and was hit by Julitta.

"J, careful," Diana whispered. Julitta smiled awkwardly. "Sorry." She muttered.

Diana rolled her eyes and turned to help the man up. "don't get so carried away, I'm taken."

The man took off his helmet and Diana froze as well.

"Thomas." She called softly. "Why are you fighting?"

"Calhoun's orders," Thomas answered. He held his helmet in his hands as he stared at her.

"You're taken? By who?"

"Ah, I didn't mean that." She said, chuckling. "I'm not comfortable with you fighting."

"I can't refute the king," Thomas answered. He noticed that their talking was attracting attention to themselves.

"Yes you can, he never cared!" Diana exclaimed.

"Hit me with your sword," Thomas whispered.

"What? Why?"

"Hit me, come on. Just the way you and Mom used to train, let's do it." Thomas said, taking a step backward.

Diana chuckled. She raised her sword and brought it down heavily, Thomas broke the hit mid-air. Diana smiled. They began to hit each other.

Diana turned around and swung her sword toward him. Thomas crouched down, blocking it with his sword.

"You grew up," Thomas said as they fought.

"Of course. You tend to grow up when you become a parent." Diana replied.

Thomas chuckled. "I was right when I said you bore the king's child. Is it an heir or an heiress?"

"Guess," Diana replied, dodging his hit. She did a backflip.

"Girl?" And then she sent a kick to his chest that had him flying backward. He landed with a thud, five feet away.

"Ugh." He groaned. "I take it that it's a boy."

Diana stretched her hand to help him up, Thomas kicked her hand away and jumped to his feet.

"The battle is not over yet." He said, winking at her.

"It's just begun," Diana replied. She eyed him and turned to fight the next person.

Jasyn had watched the interaction and he felt angered by it. Who was the man that Diana had chatted with, fought, and still dared to smile at? He saw the man wink at her and he got mad. He wanted to fight the man to death.

"Peace," Eugene said. "Don't get riled up. Watch the battle."

Jasyn glared at him. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to take my pound of flesh," Eugene replied. "I await the presence of Calhoun Montego. He is my enemy."

Jasyn sighed. "You haven't gotten over this stupid obsession?"

"Have you?" Eugene returned.

"I'm not obsessed with some nonexistent event that makes me want to shed blood," Jasyn replied.

"But you are obsessed with a woman whose man is the one I want to kill."

"What do you mean? She was only a servant to Calhoun and they never had any romance involved. The man doesn't care about her, I have read all their letters." Jasyn narrated.

Eugene laughed mockingly. "Your folly is appalling as well as adorable."

"Cute."

"Of course a man as cruel as Calhoun would never show affection to his slave. But he is the father of her child."

Jasyn's eyes widened. Is that why she had been protective of him? She didn't want her child to be fatherless?

"Then don't you think she would fight you for the sake of the same man?" Jasyn asked.

"Never. Diana is a weakling. She has always been, she can never stand toe to toe with me." He bragged. "And if she ever does, I would finish her off and send her sorry lover to spend more time with her."

"And the boy?"

"It would be a beautiful family reunion in hell," Eugene said and then laughed.

Jasyn frowned. He turned and walked away. He didn't want to hear more about Diana's rendezvous with Calhoun. It only made him want to kill Calhoun even more.

Calhoun watched his soldiers make him proud. The battle hadn't become fierce yet so there was no need to fight in their wolf forms.

He watched them fight. The battle lasted from that dawn and when the night was coming, the human soldiers began to retreat. They knew that they wouldn't be able to fight them off at night and if the moon dared to show itself, it would be the end for them.

Jasyn began to yell. "Retreat! Retreat!!"

They began to retreat, running to their tents. Calhoun's warriors were about to chase them but he stopped them.

"What's the fun if all the blood is shed in one day? Let's give them time. Unlike us, they cannot heal unless they stay for up to three weeks." Calhoun said.

"We can also give them that grace, but we won't."

The warriors returned to the castle and the gates were locked. Calhoun smiled to himself. His warriors had done him proud. He followed them to the back of the castle. Suddenly he heard a gunshot coming from the back of his castle and he turned sharply.

He signaled for his warriors to remain where they were.

"Let me go and check it out."

Diana was with Julitta, sharing their experiences with the fight when they heard the sound of a gunshot. They shared a glance.

"The soldiers," Diana whispered. "Coco."

Together, they ran towards the place she had left them. She ran ahead of Julitta and arrived there before Calhoun did.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Diana whispered. "Why fire a gun?"

"We wanted you to know we were still here, the silence is troubling, what happened?"

"We retreated. You could have sent someone to come and meet me, why do you have to shoot? Come on, let's leave before the wolf soldiers come."

They all started filing away, as quietly as they could. They closed the tent and carried it while she held Coco in her arms.

She didn't know how she expected to finish this war without anything happening to her son.

"Julitta, I can't remain in the camp. I will stay aside. If anything happens, find me here. If Jasyn asks for me, tell him I'm badly injured and you had to bring my tent closer to where my injured body was." Diana said.

Julitta nodded. "It's alright, I will do that."

She led the rest of the soldiers back to the tent camp.

"Commander, Julitta and Diana's troops have arrived." A soldier yelled. Julitta glared at him.

Jasyn was out in a few seconds. "Where is Diana?"

"She's injured," Julitta said.

"Like hell, I'd believe that. I watched her fight with a man." Jasyn said.

"Yeah. When she left him, someone fired two silver bullets at her." Julitta lied. "It hit her left thigh and she started losing so much blood, everything she needed was in her tent so rather than taking the things to come back, we took the tent to her."

"Yes sir." Another soldier affirmed. "She couldn't walk back here so we had to give her protection."

Jasyn felt angry. "Why didn't you come to me?"

"And risk allowing her to be found and killed? Never." Julitta responded. "The soldiers did not take orders from me since Diana had asked them to stay there. Until they heard the gunshot sound, that's when they followed me and found her tent."

Jasyn nodded. "That's alright then. You all may go in."

Julitta led them into the tents. She caught sight of Eugene when she was going, their eyes met and he smiled at her. Julitta removed her gaze and looked forward.

After leaving them in the tent, she ran through the forest to find Diana. While on her way, she heard some noises behind the trees and she stopped to listen.

"Diana is wounded, allow her to be," Jasyn said firmly.

"You believe her? Let's go and check on her. I bet if we showed up unannounced, we would know if she was telling the truth." Eugene said. "Don't tell me you believe that."

"I do believe, the explanation was plausible and a soldier did tell me that he mistakenly shot our own twice in the thigh, he didn't stop to check if the person was okay so he continued fighting," Jasyn said.

Eugene chuckled. "You think they didn't know that? If you won't go, I will."

Julitta gasped silently, she continued her journey to find Diana. She ran through the trees until she found Diana's tent. She turned left and right and didn't find anyone coming, she listened to the sound of footsteps but heard nothing.

She held the tent curtain to open it and she felt a cold grip on her hand.

"Where do you think you're going?" The voice whispered in her ears. Julitta was gripped by fear. She tried to yell but as she opened her mouth, a piece of cloth was shoved into her mouth. A black cloth was tied over her eyes and she felt herself being hoisted up and carried away.
