When Lan Qingyou saw her stats, she clicked her tongue.
Five years bedridden, and she'd deteriorated this badly. Only her Spirit score looked decent — nearly at the peak of human limits.
Then again, having paralyzed legs didn't exactly qualify as "agile."
'The single point in Agility is probably because I can still crawl on the ground, right?'
Still, the tattoo she'd assumed was just a room key turned out to double as a tool for checking her stats at any time. That was actually quite convenient.
Glancing at the tattoo on the back of her hand, Lan Qingyou tapped the small red dot next to her talent entry, wanting to see what Light Body Spell actually did.
Light Body Spell (E):
1. Can reduce the user's body weight, achieving a levitation effect.
2. Consumes 1 Mana Point per minute.
Levitation? As in flying?
Lan Qingyou, who had been smiling bitterly just a moment ago, felt her eyes light up. She immediately willed her talent to activate.
The instant the thought crossed her mind, her body suddenly felt weightless.
It was similar to the sensation during the teleportation, but she could still faintly sense her own body.
Lan Qingyou pushed off the desk with one hand, and her entire body floated upward — then smacked into the ceiling about four meters above and bounced back. The impact didn't hurt much, probably because her body weighed so little now.
But regardless — she could move!
"Ahahahaha! So this is what flying feels like — this is incredible!"
Lan Qingyou laughed as she zipped back and forth through the tiny room.
Sure, her talent was only E-rank, the same grade as the basic Gathering Skill — completely outclassed by those B-rank, A-rank, and S-rank talents.
But it was the perfect talent for her right now. Not having to crawl pitifully across the ground anymore was more than enough to satisfy her.
"Right — I should go outside and see this world!"
Thrilled by her newfound freedom of movement, Lan Qingyou flew toward the door, threw it open, and shot outside.
Completely ignoring the fact that it was pitch black out there.
No — not ignoring. She was simply too excited to contain herself.
Five years lying in a bed. God only knew how she'd survived those years.
Especially that last year after she'd been swindled out of her inheritance — "all thoughts turned to ash" wouldn't have been an overstatement.
"Huh?! What's that?!"
Soaring freely through the air, Lan Qingyou suddenly spotted something below in the darkness, glowing with a faint green light.
Could it be a Supply Box?
The instant she thought of the food and water that might be inside, her stomach let out a feeble growl.
So she grabbed a nearby branch, gave herself a gentle push, and drifted toward the glow.
Her flight wasn't fast. In the end, she floated down beside the faint light like a falling feather.
A Supply Box! It really was a Supply Box!
Staring at the chest — roughly forty centimeters long, thirty wide, and twenty tall — Lan Qingyou swallowed with a parched throat, then threw herself at it and hugged it tight.
"Awooo—"
At that exact moment, a howl like a wolf's cry rang out from the surrounding darkness, making Lan Qingyou flinch.
She whipped her head around and saw pairs of glowing green eyes fixed on her from not far away.
So she tucked the chest under her left arm, pressed her right hand against the ground, and launched herself straight up.
"Ha! This girl can fly!"
Hovering in the air, Lan Qingyou looked down at the dark, elongated silhouettes below with no small measure of satisfaction.
Then, pulling herself upward branch by branch, she finally arrived at the tree hollow Shelter, aglow with warm yellow light.
That's right.
Lan Qingyou's Tree Hollow Shelter was in a tree. Outside was a broken, thick branch that served as a platform.
So even flying out in the dead of night, she could pinpoint her Shelter's location with ease.
As for everything else, it was too dark to see — she'd have to wait until tomorrow.
But that didn't matter.
At least, not to Lan Qingyou right now.
All she wanted to know was what supplies were inside the chest she was holding.
So after returning to the room and casually shutting the door, she opened the chest without a moment's hesitation.
550 ml bottle of Wakuku mineral water x1, Little Sweetie self-heating hotpot x1, 210g Champion sausage x1, white sundress x1.
Food, drink, and even a change of clothes.
This made Lan Qingyou — currently wearing nothing but a hospital gown — very happy.
After all, she hadn't changed this gown in three days, and she'd been lying in that kind of place the entire time. The smell was easy to imagine.
She picked up the white sundress and looked it over.
Then the smile vanished from her face.
The reason: on the collar, she spotted the price tag — "Three for ten yuan."
'So not only were we shipped here from Blue Star as surplus population, even the Supply Boxes are sourced from Blue Star?'
'Oh well. Something to wear is something to wear — who cares where it came from.'
'For all I know, even the Box itself was ordered from Blue Star.'
With that thought, Lan Qingyou activated the self-heating hotpot.
She poured roughly a third of the mineral water inside, then took a small sip herself to moisten her throat.
As for the sausage, she decided to save it for breakfast tomorrow.
She knew it might seem wasteful to eat a full hotpot meal right now, but in her current, weakened state, a proper meal mattered more than anything.
And earlier?
That was adrenaline. It had nothing to do with her, Lan Qingyou, whatsoever.
Gurgle, gurgle—
The sound of water boiling inside the self-heating hotpot filled the room.
By now, Lan Qingyou had gradually come down from the excitement of being able to move freely.
As the calm set in, cold sweat broke out across her body.
Especially when she recalled those pairs of eyes watching her hungrily from the darkness — a chill of delayed fear ran through her.
She'd been far too bold back there.
One small slip and she could very well have died, bidding farewell to this unknown world for good.
But then again.
If not for her recklessness in that moment, she wouldn't have these supplies now.
'Could this be what the Karim World Will meant by fighting for survival on your own?'
'Hard to say, really hard to say...'
'Oh right — didn't it say the small screen can appraise things? Let me try it out.'
She glanced at the Supply Box she'd brought back, and Lan Qingyou decided to test the function.
She placed the modestly sized box on the small screen.
[Fettered Treasure Chest (E)]
[Duration: 43,200 minutes]
[Effect: Contains a stasis space inside. Any item placed within will be frozen in the exact state it was in when stored.]
[Description: One month — remember, you only have one month. When it expires, take out any perishable food, or you'll be growing those damned bugs.]
'Well now.' The unassuming Supply Box turned out to be something akin to a refrigerator.
This meant that even if a Supply Box sat untouched for ten days after spawning, the food and water inside wouldn't spoil.
Calmed by the appraisal, Lan Qingyou shook her head, dismissed the "little incident" of nearly dying, then crossed her arms and — while waiting for the hotpot — began reviewing her current situation.
Since Blue Star's Will had sold them off, going back was obviously out of the question.
Fortunately, there was nothing and no one on that side she could honestly call worth missing. She was alone — came into this world with nothing, and she'd leave with nothing. No attachments.
Who lived and who died over there had nothing to do with her.
She just needed to live. To live well. That was enough.
Of course.
If those dear, dear people — her "grandmother," her "uncle's family," her "attending physician," and her "caretaker" — could kindly stay alive long enough for her to find them and give them a wonderful little surprise, well, that would simply be the best.
