Chapter 10

Tessa P.O.V

The night before court

Collin was sound asleep, snoring and his mouth open. I, on the other hand, couldn’t get to sleep. The thought that court was tomorrow and Collin still hasn’t told me about the text message is eating at my every thought.

So I, being the nosy teenager I am, decided to do something about, and spend a few dollars doing it.

I got out of the bed so quietly a mouse would be proud. I walked into the wardrobe to find the outfit that has his school ID badge on it. I looked through the countless hangers, to find the one I was looking for, taking a picture on my phone to make sure I put it back exactly where I found it.

I slowly walked out of the bedroom to my office where my laptop sits on my desk. I pulled the badge out of my pocket and placed it on my desk, sitting down and opening my computer. The bright light awakening my already tired eyes.

I entered my password to get onto my computer, and when I successfully get it, I open the incognito page, allowing me to hide my research from Collin if he decides to snoop onto it.

I clicked the tab bar hoping this would be as easy as I thought it was, but then all private investigators would be out of a job, so better keep my hopes low.

I start by looking up her name Helen Banks, when it brings me to a bunch of woman living in New York City, and California, I changed my search, narrowed it down.

Five years ago Collin would be 16 or so, and from her facebook profile she’s 20 now and that would make her 15 five years old.

Helen Banks, 20, Denver, Colorado.

I clicked the link it gave me for the search was the ‘recommended’ option, and it was definitely something I was looking for but it wasn’t the information I was really looking for.

The last resort came to something I really hate I can do, but I have a gift for code, and well, I can get what I want when I can’t find what I need.

I searched Denver Health and clicked their website, clicking the patient portal: hacking into Helens record without any fuss, and erasing the paper trail as I do it.

Helen Delorious Jenning Banks, 2014 11:54 AM, Urgent Care.

Patient was experiencing nausea for last two weeks, and is suspecting pregnancy, missed her last cycle by about four weeks. The last time she had sex was with her boyfriend Collin James, three days ago.

12:45 PM

Patient was confirmed to be about 6 weeks pregnant, we had given her options but the patient declined any treatment or pamphlets.

“Tessa?” I heard Collins voice say as he walked into the office room quietly not trying to wake my dad.

I quickly logged out and cleared the history of the hospital being briefly hacked, and switched my tab to a random youtube video of how to tie a tie? Not sure why that’s on my recommended page but it’ll do, I guess?

“Tessa? What are you doing up so late? It’s 4:00 in the morning and we have to go to court tomorrow?” he said kissing me left cheek. When out of the corner of my eye, I see I left his badge laying right out on my desk.

I need to distract him, get him away from here.

“I’ll go to bed I’m just... really... interested in finding out how to tie ties?” I looked at him with a smile.

“I don’t need help tying my ties. I can do it.” he continued pecking my neck, leaving wet marks on it.

“Maybe it’s for another reason.” I looked at him, with a smirk.

“Do I hear wedding bells?” Collin teased.

“No, you’re delusional and sleep deprived, go to bed.” I kissed him pushing him out of the door, when he stopped for a minute and smiled, leaving the room, and going to bed.

I shut the door and locked it. Allowing myself to cry, and panic on my own, before eventually unlocking the door, and slowly walking back into the closet. The badge in my left hand and phone in my right, using the picture as a guide to putting it exactly how I found it. Leaving Collin hopefully oblivious to my unknown talent.

I layed in bed that night and never fell asleep, I couldn’t sleep knowing that Collin could have a five year old child and never telling me about it, or maybe he doesn’t know, but if Helen is texting him birthday reminders, Collin definitely knows.
