Chapter 96: Summer vacation

Frederick came to pick us up this summer vacation, Garrick would of course come along. For the past four years, I have lived in a state of fear and anxiety. I finally had the courage to leave Goderich today.

Kenelm still seemed upset about what I told him last night so he just sat around and looked out the window. No matter how much Frederick tried to strike up a conversation and make fun of him, he was not interested.

"What's wrong with Kenelm?" Frederick asked me quietly.

"He got into a fight in class."

I do not want to long like much with Frederick on this matter. He also seemed to have guessed that, so he quickly switched to another topic to talk about.

"Have you ever been to Russia?"

"Not yet."

"Then you won't regret going there."

"I heard it's winter there now."

"Oh, it depends on the city. We'll go to Moscow, it's not cold there so don't worry. And who told you it's winter there?" Frederick asked curiously.

"A customer ordered a wool dress from me. She's from Russia."

"The dress is finished?"

"No, I take it with me to knit in my spare time. The delivery would probably be convenient, since we'll be in Russia."

We chatted for a long time before the plane landed at the airport in Moscow. The weather here is really great. The sun is yellow and the sky is clear, the air is clear and really suitable for travel. Frederick led us to Red Square. Red Square is located in the center of Moscow, considered the "soul" of Russia. Saint Basil's Cathedral is also stunningly beautiful, I was really surprised with the decoration and the sculptures are both beautiful and impressive.

We visited many famous tourist places in Moscow and ate delicious food here. This trip has put me in a much better mood, and Kenelm seems to have forgotten his sad story as well.

After nearly a week in Moscow, Frederick left temporarily for his work, leaving only Garrick to care for me and my son. We were planning to stay here for another week because there was a big parade coming up near the Kremlin Palace, which Kenelm seemed excited about. He kept mentioning this parade and begged me to take him there.

Also, Vivian's wool dress has been completed. I texted her to ask for the address and shipping method.

"Are you in Moscow? Incidentally, I'm there too. Why don't we meet up and hang out?" Vivian texted me.

"That's fine. Can I bring my son? There's a parade at the Kremlin Palace this Sunday and my son wants to go there."

"Great. See you there then."

I carefully packed Vivian's wool dress into the bag, and did not forget to spray a little perfume to make a good impression on my product.

On Sunday, I chose for myself a youthful pale pink chiffon dress with a few floral motifs. Kenelm is wearing a cute grizzly bear t-shirt with jeans, but he doesn't seem too interested in this cute style. Since I'm no longer the lady of a prestigious family, my lifestyle has become very frugal, I often choose clothes from local brands at cheap prices.

"Are you going to the parade? Do you need me to accompany you?" Garrick was at the gym and called me. Since quitting ballet, he turned to the gym and studied martial arts to become a good bodyguard.

"No need. When we get back, I'll phone you to pick us up."

"Okay, then have a good time. If you have any problems, call me immediately." Garrick carefully advised me.

"Okay, goodbye."

The parade has many participants, the sound of trumpets and drums is bustling and joyful. Based on the address Vivian sent me, we quickly found each other in the crowd.

"Esther, you look so young and beautiful in this dress. It's hard to tell you're already a mother." Vivian admired me when she saw me.

"Thank you, you look beautiful today too."

Vivian is like a model and decent lady. She wore a dignified and gentle tweed dress. We walk side by side exuding two different qualities. Vivian is cheerful, jovial and sweet like a young maiden. As for me, I am more mature, my style is also softer and more casual than her.

When we walked around and talked together, many people looked at us, some even took pictures. That made me a little nervous, but I think a few pictures won't make a big deal. So I soon forgot about it.

Keenelm enjoyed the parade very much, he hummed and sang and held my hand, dancing with his feet.

Vivian is quite lively and loves to talk, when she learns that I am a single mother, she shows great admiration for me.

"You must be an independent and confident woman. That's great. I want to be like you too. Besides, Kenelm is also very cute."

"Oh, thanks for the compliment." I smiled. "Ah, I hope you like the wool dress."

"That's for sure. He'll love it too."

"Who?" I asked her.

"Ah, someone I have a crush on. I purposely ordered that wool dress to wear for his birthday." When it came to that man, Vivian's cheeks turned red, she couldn't hide her feelings for the man. Looking at Vivian like that, I suddenly remembered my old self, also naive and believed in love.

"He's so lucky to have you."

"Isn't that right? Everyone thinks we're a match. But he's so cold. You know, cool men are usually very attractive."

"Does he know you like him?"

"I guess he realized it, but he didn't reciprocate. He once loved a girl very deeply, but she died by accident. It seems that his feelings for that girl are still very much."

When I heard this, for some reason I shivered a little. How could there be such a coincidence? I think any guy can have such a sad love affair, not just Dominic. Maybe it's because I'm so sensitive to this that it feels uncomfortable to remember it.

"Be persistent for your love. I think you deserve a good man."

That's the only advice I can give Vivian. She is young and believes in a true love, I can't bear to pass on her negative thoughts about love. After going through many things, I feel that I am no longer a 25-year-old girl but a 45-year-old cautious aunt.

"Mom, I want to go over there and watch them beat the drums."

Kenelm pulled my arm and wanted me and him to join the crowd. Vivian seemed tired so she sat down on a bench and rested. I didn't feel like leaving her alone, so I told Kenelm.

"You go in there to have a look and then come back here right away, don't run too far."

Kenelm obediently nodded after listening to my instructions carefully. I sat down to rest with Vivian, but my eyes were always on Kenelm. Suddenly, the procession stopped by here again and blocked my view. I had to get up and look around to find my son's tiny figure. But in a flash, the boy was gone.

My heart skipped a beat and I sprinted through the crowd looking for Kenelm. But I couldn't find him and that scared the hell out of me. This is the first time I've lost my Kenelm.

"Garrick, help me." I called him in a panic tone.

"What happened?"

"Kenelm is lost, I can't find him." I almost cried.

"Don't worry, I'll be right there."
