“Why did you shoot hastily anyway?” I asked nonchalantly, finally to come back to the main topic. I didn’t want to sound dominant or else she would be startled.
“I couldn’t think, he pointed it at you so I lost it.” She shrugged. I hummed and got up.
“Your Brother was pissed because of the extent you broke for my sake. How I said breathe and you followed me. He is envious.” I smirked.
“It occurred involuntarily. I also don’t want it but when it’s either you or my morals, I chose you, you and you over everything else.” Her reply came innocently.
“Me too, love.” With a smile, I ran my hand in her hair. I opened my mouth to say something but got a call from Garry.
“I will be back.” I smiled and walked out, motioning Nathaniel to check up on his sister while answering the call.
“Hello.”
“Hello, Sir, there’s something I need to talk about urgently. Can I meet you?” He asked. That Nathaniel would kill me if I called someone over his secret place.
“No, you can’t right now. I will see you tomorrow. If it’s too urgent then tell me now.” I sighed.
“No.. uh.. I will wait for you at work then.”
With this he cut the call. I went back and heard the siblings talking,
“I should tell Prince, he will be hurt if someone else did.” Cinzel said sadly. What? My steps halted and knowing I shouldn’t eavesdrop but I couldn’t help, being intrigued.
“You need to do it before things get out of hand.” His voice came.
‘What is it that she could tell Nathaniel but not me?’ I thought worriedly.
“But…”
“You love Prince, don’t you?” He asked her seriously.
“I do, but-”
“No buts, you have to tell him then. Prince has a short temper, Cinzel. He is lenient with you but that doesn’t mean he will not lose his senses. Betrayal means death,” What the fuck?
“I know. I have seen how you deal with traitors.”
“And him too. When he could kill his own best friend, make his sister a widow, he can do the same to you too.” My eyes widened as my chest clenched but I couldn’t grasp what they were talking about.
What the hell is he talking about?!
“Don’t scare me like this!” She whisper-yelled but acting unaffected I entered.
I had no idea what the hell they were talking about but I certainly didn’t want this to evoke any negativity related to Cinzel in me.
How can a sweetheart like her ever hurt my feelings?
They both stared at me for a few seconds, “What?”
“I am hungry.” Cinzel said sweetly.
“What do you want to have?” I asked back in the same tone.
“I have cooked dinner, both of you are going to eat it quietly. We are not here for a picnic.” Nathaniel interrupted sternly.
“Why are we underground anyways?”
“If you remember I was leaving for Italy but my plans have changed. I will drop you guys safely first and then go back to my work.” He replied calmly.
“What work?” I regret asking.
“Wipe out the entire Milan and make it mine. None of those motherfuckers are going to get out alive unless they surrender or choose death. That will go under me.” He growled under his breath but Cinzel gasped to hear that.
“Cinzel, My love, that’s how this business works. Power multiplies plus you need to hold fear.” Nathaniel sighed, explaining to her softly.
“That is why I am telling you to leave, Prince.” She turned to me, pulling my hand.
“I know, my love, but it's not that easy.” I whispered, kissing her hands.
“Come and eat.”
“You surely break even an eye contact with us, don’t you?” I frowned. He only nodded and served dinner.
Cinzel was there as I was with Nathaniel, “Why do you want to take over Milan anyways?” I asked casually.
He glanced to see if Cinzel was listening or not and turned to me.
“There is a castle there which I want to buy and give to my wife as a wedding gift.” He replied nonchalantly. He was going to wipe out the whole area of gangsters for his future wife.
That was always an extreme.
“You are getting married?” I almost gasped.
“Not now. Later, but, I wanted to own that land, to spread my fear so that my wife could live there peacefully.” He spoke coldly.
He had no emotions for the wedding.
“Do you think Zariah needs-” He glared at me, warning me to not speak about it.
“Is it not her?” I asked, narrowing my eyes in disbelief.
“We will see. Whatever it is, It would be a meager gift for my future wife.”
Enunciating, he forced out a sweet smile for Cinzel and came to her, being overly affectionate with his sister. Of course, he met her after years, she was his only family left.
“There you go, Cinzel. I hope you will like it.” He smiled.
We were having dinner in silence but Cinzel choked up a little, “Are you alright, Cinzel?” I asked worriedly but covering her mouth, she only ran to the bathroom. Me and Nathaniel exchanged weird glances and went after her.
“Are you okay, love?” I asked, rubbing her back.
“Yeah… Somehow..”
“You haven’t eaten anything since Lunch.” Nathaniel said, arching an eyebrow.
“Leave it.” She sighed, walking out of the bathroom.
“Are you sure you are okay?” I asked, holding her shoulder.
“Yeah.” She smiled, nodding. I smiled and kissed her head.
“Shall I order something for you?” Nathaniel offered.
“No. I am fine.” She shook her head, smiling.
“If you say so.” He shrugged as we had dinner and went to sleep.
The next day I was at work and Garry came, “Sir.” He called as I hummed in response.
“Someone tried to attack us yesterday.” He told me as I stopped and looked up from my file in disbelief.
‘Unbelievable, here too?’ I thought.
“Things are getting out of hand, Young Lord, we have to do something now. Being attacked from inside is a disgrace for Poison Ivy.” He expressed his worry.
Closing my file I leaned back on my seat, resting my elbow on the armrest, “Not just us, but someone pointed his gun at me at the runway too.” I told him.
“What?!” I hummed.
“I overlooked it as a glib but this is getting on my nerves now. Did you get the list?” I asked.
“Yes… Uh.. Young Lord?” He called me, handing me the file.
“What?”
“There’s something I would like to mention. Please don’t be offended.” He said, slightly afraid, causing me to look up from the file.
“What is it?” I asked.
“All of it has started ever since your bride has claimed the throne. I think they are doing this because of her… or for her.” He paused, then closed the file as my features hardened.
“Please, listen to me fully before yelling or getting angry.” He insisted and continued.
“Since you can’t see anything before her. Think carefully, we all have seen even undesirably but she is following in her Mother’s footsteps. And when she is that crazy about you, how much she would be for her ex-fiancé with whom she spent more than five years, considering him her best friend. What if he manipulated her to seduce you and make her do all this? It’s… It’s just a deduction but if you think carefully about it, Sir. There is a possibility.”
He stopped, pushing me into the abyss of thoughts which never crossed my mind before.
“And the main thing, all our information now goes through her first, she knows where our warehouses are and how much and when we export. Why was our main warehouse burned right after her so-called coronation?”
He hit the spot I was constantly trying to deny or probably never paid heed to. She could never do this. No, no, no.
“Young Lord-”
“Leave.” I simply ordered in a calm tone.
Curling my hands in a tight fist. Pressing my teeth to suppress the growl which is knocking on unwanted thoughts which never crossed my mind before.
“Young-”
“Leave!” Sighing, he nodded and left.
After he left, I threw the file on the desk, submerged in the murk surrounding me as I tried to disregard all the positive signs, pondering one thing-
‘Are you double crossing me, Cinzel?’
