After my encounter with Shaina, she instantly left as she felt Ysmael looking in her direction. I know he's dissatisfied with what he heard and saw tonight, but I'm not in the right place to decline Shaina's offer to say something about what could actually help me regain some of my memories. I wouldn't even hope to get all of them back, but I'm only hoping for what could possibly be done to make me remember, even the tiniest memory I have.
Especially my memories with him.
I walked straight into the balcony as I felt suffocated by the thick air and tension between us. The cold wind embraced my whole body as I got out. I looked up at the sky and closed my eyes.
For the first time, I felt some hope gushing through my soul. Tomorrow, I will definitely push myself to get out of this house and have Shaina guide me to where she gets the information about what she said to me.
Just then, I felt Ysmael walking towards me. He's behind me, leaning on the doorway.
"You're not supposed to know anything, not until the serum is ready," he explained.
"Then what am I supposed to do here? Wait for all of you to say anything even though there's no guarantee that I'll be going back to my past self?" I asked sarcastically.
"No one wanted for this to happen," he exhaled harshly after he spoke.
"Of course that's what you will say!" I said before I turned around to look in his direction. "What is it now? What are you going to say as an excuse tonight? Not the right timing, huh? Is that it?"
He remained silent as he stared at me. I don't know what's going on in his mind, but he walked towards me to get closer, and when he was already in front of me, he rested his head on my left shoulder. I could feel him breathing right on the side of my neck, and his manly scent was lingering on me.
"Do you trust me?" He asked in a whispering manner.
In another situation, I would gladly answer his question in a sarcastic way, but seeing him like this makes all of my hatred melt away. Maybe he's also frustrated by what's happening between us, and his avoiding my gaze right now just makes me realize that maybe he's struggling to tell everything to me.
I could clearly understand all of that if he only said something to me, but ever since we arrived in this place, I couldn't even find a spot where I could rest peacefully because everywhere I went, all I felt was how messed up my situation was.
"Would you even trust me too?" I gave back the question to him.
I felt his body stiffen at what I asked. I felt him holding my hand, and he even kissed it gently.
"I trust you with my whole life," he whispered.
I caress his hair with my free hand to express that he shouldn't be worrying about my trust. The moment I went to this place with him, that's when I gave him the trust to take care of me.
"You should rest," I whispered back.
He got up to look at me, and he suddenly smiled. His smile was a soft one, the kind that will make you stare at him like he's an art piece in a gallery. He's majestic to look at.
"Rest with me," he said like an invitation, and so I just let him pull me inside, and when he sat at the side of the bed, he pulled me for a hug. He's hugging me by my waist, his head resting on my abdomen.
"Let's get you to lie down," I said before I let go of his hug and went straight to the bathroom. The moment I locked the door, I exhaled harshly. It's like I've been holding my breath ever since I was with him earlier.
I look at myself in the mirror, and my pale skin is already showing as the serum that Luke gave me every month has totally washed out of my system. I washed my face to keep myself from thinking too much about what could possibly happen tonight.
Shoot! Now I could even think that something's going to happen, huh? This is so wrong of me.
I tried to calm myself down for a while before I finally opened the door to get out of the bathroom. I immediately saw him resting and facing the side of my bed, like he was waiting for me. It looks like he's already sleeping.
My movements were very light to avoid disturbing him, but then I still failed as I noticed his eyes opened, and when our gazes met, he smiled.
"I was waiting for you to come out," he said before he pulled me closer by my waist, just enough for him to hug me. I tried to move away about an inch or two just to have a little space between us.
"You could have just rested first," I replied.
"I want to see you before I go to sleep," he reasoned.
With that, I wonder...
"Back before, you know..."
I started to talk about something, but why am I about to stammer?
"Back when?" He asked shortly.
"Back when I'm still fine and I'm with you," I said without even looking at him. "Do you have the same habit of waiting for me before we go to sleep?"
His lips parted a little, but then he smiled slightly.
"We didn't have the same room before," he paused for a while. "You're not that comfortable at first, so you have your own room, but for quite some time, we slept in the same bed for a short while."
"So all of this was new to you?" I asked again.
"No, it's not," he said.
I looked at him this time, and he was already looking at me.
"Back then, all I could do was stand in front of your door at night, and when I heard or felt you sleeping peacefully inside, I'd eventually get back to my room and sleep."
I feel like there are sudden butterflies playing inside my stomach. My feelings were truly flattered by what he said. I never thought that he could have this soft side for me.
"You're such a creep," I blurted out, as I never even knew what to say about that.
He just smiled at me as his reply, and he slowly closed his eyes to sleep.
"I hope we can go back together, just like the way it was," I whispered before I kissed him on the forehead.
Sleep for now, my creep.
…
The next morning, I woke up to a loud knock coming right outside our door. I groaned loudly as I heard the knock getting louder and louder.
Ysmael is still sleeping on his side of the bed while he's hugging me from behind. I carefully put his arms aside and stood up to open the door before he woke up too.
Luke showed up in front of me with a worried look on his face.
"What is wrong with you now?" I asked as I leaned on the doorway.
"We have to move now," he said, like he was in a rush.
"Move where? This is the only place we know in this strange city, Luke," I explained while my eyes were still half closed.
"Pack up your things, and we have to move now!" This time, his voice sounded so demanding, and so I looked him in the eye while my mood shifted to being annoyed.
This time, I felt someone moving from behind me, and I eventually saw Ysmael already standing beside me.
"What's all of this?" He asked.
"We need to move," Shaina said out of nowhere. She immediately looked at Ysmael, who was still half asleep.
"Can someone explain what's happening?" I asked the both of them.
"I'll explain later --"
"It's about your parents." Shaina didn't let Luke finish his sentence.
My mind instantly woke up to what I heard.
"What about them?" Ysmael asked.
"They're coming to get us," Luke said in his stern voice.
I panicked for a moment, but when Ysmael held my hand, I looked at him, and he was already looking at me.
"Let's get ready."
