Chapter 56: A New Beginning

Cassidy’s POV

I stared out into the vast emerald-green expanse of the Volatile Hounds Pack, my heart filled with happiness, awe and trepidation. This pack has a beautiful territory. I guess it was only gray the moment we arrived because of Enzo’s negligence to the beauty scattered before his eyes.

Alpha Zarion, my boyfriend, stood tall and proud as the head of the pack. He radiated an aura of strength and command that captivated the wolves around him. With Zarion as the new Alpha, chosen to lead this pack through these challenging times, I am now Luna Cassidy. I winced at the title. First I followed after him as a human and left my grandmother before being transformed as a werewolf thanks to our late friend Elliot.

And now…I now stood by his side with pride as the new Luna, stronger than any Luna in their world. I may not have tangible power but I have enough strength to be a leader with Zarion’s help.

The transition had not been an easy one. The wolves of the pack were accustomed to their former Alpha Enzo, brutal, merciless, and ruthless. Fortunately they accepted Zarion and me wholeheartedly. They recognized the power in his decisions, the fairness in his judgments. The humanity in his heart.

Zarion has a way of leading that inspires loyalty and unity among the pack members. It will be an honor to stand by his side and share this responsibility.

And Enzo? He’s now rotting in the dungeons, the predator killed by his own prey. This time, it’s the Omega he kept on whipping and fucking without her consent end his own life. Good for him, and praise her.

And cheers for this new beginning. Hell yeah, I bet Elliot his cackling his ass now in the heavens wherever he is.

Days turned into weeks when I become the Luna and Zarion is the Alpha.

I no longer care if I am really his mate. The love that we shared is enough for us to break into worlds just to find each other.

And with those weeks, I noticed a familiar face amidst the pack: Bridgette Jennings, a young and spirited wolf, had caught my attention. With her wild mane of auburn fur and piercing green eyes, she exhaled an air of curiosity and determination. Intrigued, I slowly approached her, my own eyes filled with warmth and interest. And respect, of course.

“Bridgette,” I called out, my voice carrying across the clearing where the pack gathered. “Would you come over here, please?”

Bridgette turned towards me, her tail wagging eagerly. She bounded over with an excitement that mirrored my own and shifted before my eyes. “Luna Cassidy! It's an honor to finally talk to you!” Her excitement melted my heart as she dipped her head in a slow gesture of respect.

I smiled warmly, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. “The honor is mine too, Bridgette. I've heard great things about your dedication and loyalty to the pack.”

“And I’ve heard yours to Alpha Zarion.” She glanced at him for a heartbeat and met my gaze again. “I heard you were once human.”

            “I am. I hope that’s not a problem.”

“Are you kidding me? I have long wished to meet an actual human!” Then she hugged me. Tightly. One that almost crushed my ribcage.

            “So how is it?”

            I blinked once. “How’s what?”

            “How’s being human?”

I just gave her a cringey smile. “Boring most of the time. You cannot scour the peak of mountains as fast as lightning nor enjoy the warmth winter brings you.” I winked at her as soon as I finished. “Now I’m glad I can shift, and be a part of Volatile Hounds Pack’s new beginning. It shall be my pleasure to serve wolves like you.”

Her eyes widened in surprise, and a blush colored her cheeks. “Thank you, Luna. I will also do my best to serve the pack and protect its members just like how you and Alpha do.”

“You'll be an invaluable asset by our side—especially at my side,” I assured her. “A Luna needs a trusted sidekick, and I believe that's a role you're destined to fulfill. Or are you already fulfilling it?” I teased as I pinched her cheek.

Bridgette's ponytail wagged like her wolf’s tail as she bobbed her head. Her excitement is pretty much contagious. “I won't let you down, Luna Cassidy. Together, we'll make this pack stronger than ever.”

I believed her words. I believe in the Volatile Hounds Pack—the pack where wolves have gifts of their own, and it was suppressed because of their late Alpha. Good thing Zarion and I found this and saved them from being sunk deeper.

Just as Bridgette had become my sidekick, Beta Caleb Hills have become Zarion's trusted advisor and second-in-command now that the title of Alpha is his.

Tall and strong, Caleb possessed a quiet confidence that commanded respect. Radiating with fierceness without shadowing the kindness in his eyes. His silver-gray fur shimmered in the moonlight, and his piercing blue eyes held a wisdom beyond his years.

“Welcome, Beta Caleb.” Zarion greeted him with a nod,“Your guidance will be instrumental in leading this pack towards prosperity.” Caleb dipped his head forward respectfully. “Thank you, Alpha Zarion. I'm honored to serve alongside you and Luna Cassidy. Together, we will lead the Volatile Hounds Pack to greatness.”

The bond among the four of us grew stronger with each passing day.

Alpha Zarion's decisive leadership, my unwavering strength, Bridgette's ever-blazing dedication, and Caleb's wisdom formed an unbreakable foundation for the pack’s betterment. We were united by a shared vision, a burning desire to protect and nurture Volatile Hounds.

As Luna, I reveled in the newfound strength coursing through my veins. It was as if the title had unlocked a hidden reserve of power within me. I know, without a doubt, that I was stronger than any Luna that had come before me.

The crackling bonfire danced merrily, casting its warm glow upon our faces as we gathered around, reveling in the camaraderie of our pack. Laughter filled the air, blending with the chorus of nightly creatures and the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. It was a night like any other, filled with joy and the sense of belonging.

As the flames licked the sky, my eyes wandered across the vast expanse of the forest, absorbing its ancient beauty.

Then, a flicker of movement caught my attention, drawing my gaze to the outskirts of our territory.

           No. It can’t be.

My heart skipped a beat, for nestled within the distant trees, a fire blazed defiantly, its fiery tendrils reaching towards the heavens. So big. The fire is so big that it devours anything within its path.

A knot formed in my stomach as I recognized the vicinity of that blaze—it was dangerously close to where my grandmother resided, I resided. Our humble castle tucked away from prying eyes and I pray to the Moon Goddess and other deities listening to me right now.

I may have left my Grandmother for Zarion but it doesn’t mean I love her any less.

Please. Save her. Save my Grandmother.

Panic clawed at my chest, threatening to consume me whole. I must act swiftly, for the safety of my family and our pack depends on it.
