Chapter 61: United as a Pack

The anticipation in the air was palpable as our pack gathered in the heart of the forest, surrounded by ancient trees that seemed to whisper encouragement and strength.

Alpha Zarion and I stood side by side, united in one purpose—to train our wolves for the upcoming war that loomed on the horizon. This wasn't just about survival; it was about protecting everything we held dear.

This fight with Hestia is not just my fight—this is our fight. Each and everyone of us.

With a determined glint in my eyes, I looked out at the assembled wolves, each one brimming with potential. They were more than just members of our pack; they were family. We had come a long way together, and now, it was time to push our limits even further.

“Listen up, everyone!" I called out, my voice projecting with utter confidence. I never trained with this many people before, but I will do this. “The time has come for us to prepare for the battle that awaits us. Our enemies, the Madfur Claws Pack, may be formidable but we are stronger when we stand together.”

Alpha Zarion stepped forward, his presence commanding respect. “Luna Cassidy is right. Each one of you is a warrior in your own right, and we have seen your dedication and courage. Now, we will sharpen your skills, forge them into formidable weapons. Much deadlier weapons.”

The training began, and every day was a test of our endurance, both physically and mentally. We honed our fighting techniques, improved our agility, and practiced synchronizing our movements as a unit.

In times of peace, we had grown comfortable. But the threat of war ignited a fire within us, pushing us beyond our limits.

Fighting Hestia is just the beginning. I’m very much sure it will end up in another fight between our packs.

As the days turned into weeks, the bond between their wolves deepened. I spent countless hours with my wolf, Sellene, feeling the connection between us strengthen. Her eyes mirrored my determination, and I knew we were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. But it wasn't just about strength and skills; it was also about trust. Our wolves needed to trust us implicitly, just as we trusted them.

I learned to listen to Sellene's instincts, and she learned to heed my commands as well. We moved as one, a force to be reckoned with. A storm never to be challenged with.

During our breaks, Alpha Zarion and I would discuss strategies, analyzing every angle of the impending war. We didn't take this responsibility lightly, the fate of the Volatile Hounds pack rested on our shoulders. But we found solace in each other's support, knowing that we were not alone in this battle.

We never are.

Evening came and the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden light over the dense Misty Forest. Alpha Zarion and I gathered the pack for a final talk. The time had come to put everything we had trained for into action.

“Tomorrow,” I began, my voice steady, “we will go to the Mountain Blyth to discuss the Chancellor's rules of the upcoming fight with Hestia. I want you to know that I have faith in each and every one of you. Our bond goes beyond words; it transcends the ordinary. The Madfur Claws Pack will be there. Always remember that we are an unstoppable force.”

Alpha Zarion's eyes gleamed with pride as he spoke after me, “Remember, you are not just warriors; you are protectors of our home, of our family, of our future. Fight with everything you have, for each other and for one another. For now, let's rest and we will see what the Chancellor will say to us. Do you understand?”

The moon hung low in the sky as Alpha Zarion's words echoed through the night, stirring a fire within us that burned brighter than the stars. Zarion’s been always firm and commanding, filling us with strength. He’s the reason for our pack's unity, reminding us of our purpose: warriors and protectors. Each word he spoke was etched into my heart, igniting a fierce determination to fight for everything I held dear. Including him.

As the warriors let out their howls, all in their wolf forms, it was  a symphony of loyalty and devotion. My chest swelled with pride to be part of this extraordinary pack. I’m really glad Zarion found them—and Enzo. We are a force to be reckoned with, bound not just by blood but by an unbreakable bond of love and trust. I joined in the howling even in my human form, my voice blending with the others, a harmony of song resonating through the night.

Alpha Zarion's eyes met mine, and I saw a mixture of concern and pride in his gaze. “You okay?”

He reached out, his warm hand enveloping mine, and gave it a reassuring squeeze. His touch sent shivers down my spine.

I hope nothing bad happens tomorrow. I hope Chancellor Franklin's going to be upright and unbiased.

With a deep breath, I nodded at Alpha Zarion, letting him know that I am okay, that I am ready. But truth be told, my heart was pounding with anticipation and uncertainty.

I’m nervous as shit.

“Yeah,” I answered and smiled at Alpha Zarion. “I am always okay.”

The night passed and the moon gave way to the rising sun, painting the sky with hues of gold and orange. Bright and refreshing, encouraging and welcoming.

Our pack gathered at the edge of the forest, the early morning light casting a solemn glow upon us.

Then we started our journey to the Chancellor's castle.

As I looked up, I saw the Chancellor's castle stood tall, a symbol of power and authority. As we made our way toward it, I couldn't help but wonder what awaited us within those walls.

The journey felt both endless and fleeting, as if time itself were playing tricks on us.

I’m still nervous as fuck. I can’t help but sweat profusely when my Grandmother’s castle—our castle—is within the same mountain.

As we reached the castle gates, my heart pounded. I steadied my breath, preparing for what lay ahead. The Chancellor's decision would not only affect our pack but also the delicate balance between the Madfur Claws Pack and the Volatile Hounds Pack.

You can do this, Cassidy. You can do this.

I hoped that he would be just and impartial, that he would see the nobility of our cause and the sacrifices we had made. With Alpha Zarion leading the way, we stepped into the grand hall, the Chancellor waiting for us with a goblet of wine in his hand.

“Welcome, members of the Volatile Hounds Pack!” His gaze was painfully stern that I could feel the weight of his scrutiny as he assessed each member of our pack.

“Alpha Zarion and Luna Cassidy,” he called, recognizing us in the hall. The tension in the room was suffocating. I could practically feel the weight of everyone's gaze on us. My heart thundered in my chest, matching the rhythm of my racing thoughts as I anxiously awaited Alpha Brandon's mouth to rip open apart.

“Come, the Madfur Claws Pack are waiting for you inside,” the handmaidens of the Chancellor gestured us towards the hall room. Everything is gilded and shining, expensive as fuck. My grip tightened on Alpha Zarion's hand as we stepped forward together. Bridgette, Caleb, and the rest of the pack trailing behind us. I knew this meeting was crucial, and the fate of our pack depended on it.

Yes I’m nervous of this and I’m also very nervous of our pack’s future and Hestia and Brandon.

Once inside, I could feel the intense gaze of Alpha Brandon and Luna Hestia burning into us. It was unnerving, but I refused to show any sign of weakness. We took our seats, positioned right next to our enemies. My nerves kicked into overdrive.

Chancellor Franklin's voice rang out, the gravity of his words settled over the room. The date for the fight had been set, and it would take place during the next full moon. It was both terrifying and relieving to finally have a definitive timeline. Full moon nights are always a powerful night. But I knew the battle ahead would be nothing short of brutal and simple.

Blood shall spill no matter how little when it comes to Hestia and me. I don’t care if it’s going to be my blood or hers as long as my heart remains beating.

“I will be the mediator of this war,” Chancellor Franklin declared, and I couldn't help but wonder if his neutrality could truly be trusted. Nevertheless, it was the only option we had, and we would have to play by the rules if we wanted to stand a chance.

As he explained the rules of the upcoming fight, my mind began to race with strategies and plans. The only way to win the war was to take down the Alpha of the opposing pack, and that meant all eyes would be on Alpha Zarion. The weight of that responsibility pressed heavily on my shoulders as well.

But this is the fight between Lunas—between Queens. How could a Queen take down another King?

Of course. The answer is simple and is freaking in front of me.

I have to go through the Queen first.
