Chapter Not Worthy Of Oliver

ELLA :

I don't believe my eyes, what I just saw, I was still hoping that it was my illusion but no it turned out to be real, the devil killing someone right in front of my eyes. I wasn't afraid of the devil’s cruel experience but his betrayal ached my heart. Why? Why did he do that?

It was so hard for me to trust him and then open my heart for him but what did he do? He has cut open my heart with his betrayal and now I am bleeding internally.

This time, when he growled and walked to me with a cold and terrifying aura around him, I wasn’t scared of him but hurt, I was deeply hurt and instead of running away from him, I stood still in front of him.

“I have saved an innocent life,” I said with my head held high trying my best to hide my pain and disappointment.

“Innocent Life,” He repeated through gritted teeth and stared at me with ferocious eyes. I wasn’t scared as I stared back at him.

“Ahh…”Out of sudden, the devil held my neck tightly and then seethed, “I had tried so hard to make all things better, but you human… You always like to mingle in other's business…”

“You… break…your…promise,” I tried to say with difficulty as his hand was still firmly holding my neck.

“Promise?”He sneered and then pulled me closer to him, “Devils don’t make any promises.”He confessed and I frowned, feeling sad and deceived by him.

“Kill…me…”I asked him in a hoarse voice as I began to cry sadly, His grip on my neck tightened and my legs left the ground as he pulled me up in the air making me choke.

My neck wasn’t more painful than my heart was as I closed my eyes and waited for him to suffocate me to death.

I counted in my heart but nothing happened and then a strong voice of laughter came as I was thrown on the ground mercilessly.

“Hahaha…”

“Kill you? Do you really think I would kill you? After what I had been through and what I had done for you, is it easy to kill you now? Is it worth it?”He asked in a narrowed voice and now I started feeling nervous and scared.

Because I have started getting an idea of what he really wants from me.

“I won’t kill you, my dear Ella.. I will marry you in two days and then I will turn you into a devil and that night you will accept me the way I am and this time I would make love with you as a devil, whether you want it or not, but I am too desperate for that night to come.”He confessed his true intentions and I sucked a breath of cold air while staring at him with terror in my eyes.

I staggered back as I exclaimed in disbelief, “No… You can’t force me.”

“I can, my little Ella…”He said, evilly and before he could raise his hand, I lifted my hand and pushed it to him with all force, and there I saw a bright light coming out from my hands and that hit the devil so hard that he had fallen far away from me.

A triumphant smile appeared on my lips when I stared at the distance, the devil had been fallen to and then at my hands with a slight shock in my eyes.

Then without wasting a minute, I ran to the door of the basement and before I could open it, the devil was back. I knew if I opened that door it would put Oliver’s life in trouble with me and I can’t risk his life at all.

I quickly hid near the basement door in the dark, I was sure the devil wouldn't come and look for me near the basement. After all, he thinks I am unaware of this part of the house which I really was until now.

“Ella…”He growled angrily, but I stayed still at my place, I placed a hand on my heart which was beating wildly hearing the anger in his voice. I never knew that his appearance had such a strong effect on me.

I closed my eyes, trying to stay calm as his voice started growing louder and nearer. I held my breath because I could feel his existence near me but inside my heart, I kept on praying that he won’t find me.

I need to save Oliver first and then only, I will go in front of him. I need to hide from him for a while until I think of a way to save Oliver and send him away from this terrible reality of our life.

The devil, who was desperately looking for me suddenly vanished in the air. I don’t know what happened but I sighed with great relief when I saw him gone.

Instead of being impatient, I stayed at my place for longer and when I was finally sure that there was no one in the garden and I was all alone, I finally stepped out of the dark and then very carefully opened the basement door.

It was a wooden door and old too as it made that weird “Creak” sound when I opened it. I immediately put my guard on and looked around but nothing happened and sighing in relief, I went inside the basement.

The first thing I encountered was webs. A lot of webs were in my way, Instead of breaking those webs I crawled down from it and then there came the ladders. I climbed down the ladder slowly and quietly.

When I finally touched the ground, it was too dark but thankfully I had the matchbox in my pocket as I took it out and lightened one matchstick whispering in a low voice, “Oliver?”

“Ella?”Oliver’s weak voice came and I rushed into the corner where he was curled up in a ball, wearing his school uniform that was too dirty and his body stinks badly.

Ignoring all the odds, I hugged him tightly and murmured with excitement, “You’re alive…You’re alive… Oliver…”

He smiled weakly and then touched my cheek, “Ssshhh, I am fine.”I leaned at his touch and cried sadly in his arms. Who knew that things would turn like this between us. Oliver would live in a terrible state while I was enjoying my blissful life with who? A devil? Whatever happened in the past, now I am clearly not worthy of Oliver or any men in this world.

A wave of shame and guilt appeared on my face as I suddenly pulled away from his touch, “Don’t touch me, Oliver, I am dirty now,” I told him in a hoarse voice and his brow twitched staring at me, confused.

“What does it mean?”

I wanted to tell him everything but in the state he was, I decided to skip this brutal part and save him first. “We’ll talk about this later, but first I need to save you.”

I held his hand from my one hand and then looked at my second hand that was sparking in the dark, I have powers, I am not pitiful at all, a thought that ease my worried heart.

“Let’s go,” I told him as I walked to the ladder and suddenly I started feeling dizzy, and then all of the sudden things blacked out as my body turned numb and I fell heavily on the ground.

“Ouch…”

The last word I heard before losing my consciousness was a low cry from Oliver’s mouth, “Ella…”
