Chapter That Bracelet

WHAT THE HELL!!??

Like what exactly just happened. It felt all too bizzare for me to digest. I just had this fucking weird feeling about this scene I just witnessed.

I saw that Ifeanyi was looking into space blankly. I cleared my throat to get attention. And that did the job as he turned to look at me with the same blank expression only managing to cork a perfect eyebrow.

"Hi. How are you?" I asked suddenly smiling like an idiot. He stared at me blankly not replying. Tell me the ground shouldn't just open and swallow me right now.

I could decide to just digest the fact that I was just snubbed by a guy and save my last bit of self-respect by walking away but my body didn't just know when to act accordingly as I stood rooted there.

"So you are and Kaira are like... Dating now?" The next words fell out of my mouth shocking me. Ifeanyi only did well to further raise his brow.

"You guys are dating or..."

"We are not dating", he said plainly.

"Oh. I just thought..." He started walking out before I could even complete my sentence. I bit on my lower lip feeling humiliated as he disappeared behind the crowd of students.

I rolled my eyes. Na me misyarn.

It took a while before I finally found my feet and started moving ignoring everyone and everything else in that hallway.

I made it to the class without dying from shame as I had originally thought I would. Many people turned their attentions to me once I stepped into the class but then I had slowly gotten used to this unnecessary attention after the scene Chiamaka created in my house.

Although I had hoped it would die by now but seeing as there has been non-stop drama in my life, it just might never end.

I passed Aldrin and Ubaro's seats noticing that Ifeanyi had changed his seating position. I got to my chair and thankfully, Alesscia was in school.

"Hey girl! You are looking so moody today and the day just started. Is it one of your normal mood swings or is there a particular reason?" Alesscia asked me.

"I don't have mood swings but no there isn't any reason for my mood thanks for asking."

"Really? It has nothing to do with a certain guy you are head over heels for ignoring you in the hallway?" Alesscia asked smiling.

My eyes widened as I stared at her.

"First things first, I am in no way head over heels for Ifeanyi. Then secondly, I could care less that he ignored me. His pain not mine. I really couldn't give a fuck."

Alesscia shook her head. "Okay. But seriously, you're just going to leave this lying low. A guy that has been basically tripping for you embarrassed you in the hallway and you don't see anything wrong about that? I am really certain that something's up. Maybe he's mad at you for something?"

"Darling don't bother your pretty head thinking about this. As I said, I couldn't care any less. He can do whatever shit he wants to. It's his life after all. If he wants, he should keep vexing"

"I am just..."

'CLASS COMPLIMENT!' The class monitor announced on the arrival of the Biology teacher interrupting Alesscia.

"Good morning ma'am," the class echoed with a reasonable amount of the class still seated. The teacher seemed least interested by their greetings as she waved the few students who managed to stand down and commenced her class.

"The last time I was in this class, I left my flash drive with a student who wanted to copy this term's notes from it. If you are the one with the flash drive please indicate by raising up your hand," the short woman said after taking a seat.

I looked down as I tried to find my jotter and a pen. I hadn't yet gotten the chance to transfer the notes to my system so I had to write down whatever she said in case I couldn't get the notes at the end of the day.

"Yes? I am still waiting," the teacher's voice filled the room. I looked up just in time to see Kaira putting up her hand.

I noticed a bracelet on her wrist, one that particularly struck my attention. It was golden and plain with a simple engraving of the letter K.

It looked quite similar to the one I had picked up at my house. A little too familiar for me to be mistaken. But I kept quiet since I wasn't sure yet.

"Oh Ani. You are the one with the flash?" The Biology teacher- Mrs. Adedeji asked Kaira.

"Yes ma," Kaira replied.

"Are you done with it so that you can hand it over to someone else?"

Kaira nodded as everything else blurred out. If the bracelet was indeed with Kaira, it only implied that she was the last person with my phone. Then the question remained... What was she doing with my phone?!

****

A few classes and breaks later and I was already on my way to hostel only managing to wave Alesscia goodbye before taking off.

I got to my assigned room as I began going through my boxes. I could be reckless as fuck even messy at times but I was sure I knew exactly where I kept that bracelet.

I ran my hands through almost every bag in that box before I finally found the bracelet and I had not made a mistake. It was the exact replica of the bracelet Kaira had worn.

Just then Kaira walked into the room with the usual smile on her face as she talked the Isa who seemed as if she would give anything to get away from the conversation she was having with Kaira.

Her wish was granted as Kaira leapt towards me once she sighted me momentarily forgetting Isa.

"How was your day?" She asked grinning.

"It was good. Really good," I said taking a look at the bracelet in my hands and at the one on her wrist.

"I found this bracelet..." I showed her the bracelet as I observed her expression. "Is it yours?"

She glanced at her wrist before shaking her head. "Nope. It can't be mine since I am already wearing mine. Maybe someone liked mine and made one with a similar design. It even looks fake. The lock's broken and the gold is already peeling showing that it's plated. Mine is real gold. My aunt Jane got it for me and she has better taste than to mistake gold plated for real gold."

I stared at her and for the first time, it actually looked like she was saying the truth.

"You're sure it's not yours?" I asked again.

"Positive. Maybe you ask the class tomorrow. The owner would surely come for it," She said dropping her school bag on a shelf.

"Or maybe not because it looks worthless to me," she added as an after thought as she sat down to pull off her Nike converse.

I kept watching her as she took off the bracelet and kept it on her bedside drawer.

"Are you and Ifeanyi dating?"

She turned to look at me in confusion while my eyes widened in shock from my own question. Believe me if I tell you that I have no idea how I even asked that question.

The words literally just fell from my mouth on their own.

"No, we are not dating", she said laughing. "Why would you think that?"

"I... No reason", I muttered.

"Okay", she said shrugging. After a while she started talking once more.

"Have you heard Last one standing?"

"No", I said absent-minded.

"Skylar Grey, Polo G, Eminem and Mozzy?" Isa chipped in.

"Yeah. It's a nice song."

"True! I loved Eminem's part," Isa said suddenly interested in discussing with Kaira which was good for me.

"It's Skylar's part for me. It reminded of me of what Juice wrld did in hate the other side", Kaira said.

Chiamaka walked in before Isa could say anything else.

"Hey! How was your day?" Kaira asked Chiamaka, Isa temporarily forgotten.

"The usual", Chiamaka said looking very exhausted. "Life sucks!"

"Tell me about it", Kaira said in agreement.

"And most of us don't really have special privileges like some others right Alya dear?" Chiamaka looked at me awaiting a reply. I stared back at her in confusion not even ready for any shit at the moment.

"It seems like you get to leave school whenever you please even at night. So where exactly were you?" She asked with a smirk.

"Sucking your ex's dick", I said without thinking. I was glad I didn't anyway because I wouldn't have said anything if I did. But I won't lie that I didn't cringe at my own words.

She was dumb for a while which I thought of as a good thing. I had way better things to do than talking to her.

"You prefer left overs now? That's sad. So tell me, does he prefer your blowjobs to mine?"

"It tasted like he did", I said with a smirk.

"No way! Tell us all about it", Kaira suddenly said looking enthusiastic.

"Please don't", Isa said.

I stood up from my bed and picked up a book as I started leaving the room. Ignoring Chiamaka's glare, I glanced at Kaira's bracelet on her drawer once more before I left the room.

I thought about one thing as I exited the room. If the bracelet wasn't hers, then who's was it and what was the person doing with my phone?
