Chapter 45

"Hi, is there something you need?"

So he lived there. She had been feeling doubtful but she didn't expect they'd actually meet. How had he been living all these time? Was he still afraid of her? Did he even remember her? She wondered.

"Are the groceries that I bought two days ado finished?" He turned to the old woman who smiled.

"They're all finished."

"They are? Then, I'm going to buy more."

She cleared her throat and they turned to her."Um...do you remember me?"

"You?" He asked.

"Yeah?"

"Sorry, but who may you be?" He frowned.

"I'm Zuriña Anderson. I often used to sit at a park reading picture books...I often saw you borrow books from the library..."

He interrupted. "Sorry, I don't remember."

"Really? You skipped classes and went to the playground..."She was saying when he cut her off again and Kaiwan frowned.

"I don't remember ever being like that."

Two hours passed and she found it even difficult to get close to him,not only because of the jealous grandma and her dog, Yiannais looked like he was in no mood to see her.

"Looks like there's nothing we can get from here. Let's go before the sun sets." Kaiwan said and she sighed as she mounted her bike. Coming there had been a waste of time.

It was as if the day wasn't her lucky day too as her bike refused to start. "Detective, the bike won't start."

"No wonder I was having a bad feeling...I have to go to the repair shop. I'll be back before dark." He said and mounted his bike before he drove off.

"Are you going to die tomorrow?" Someone said and her head whipped round to see Yiannais walking out of the town with two grandparents.

"Well, the other grandparents have to eat."

"Goodness, don't worry. Everyone here will die before you do, so just slow down." One of them smiled.

"Oh, please don't speak like that."

He treated others with such warmth, but why was he so cold to her?If he avoided her that much, it wasn't that he didn't remember, but he was pretending not to.

Zuriña alighted her bike and walked up to him. She had to find out why.

"Yiannais, why are you avoiding me?"

His response was totally different from what she expected. "It's because you are a stranger." He said and walked away.

Feeling down, she walked back to the station not far off from where her bike was parked.

Was she really not going to get anything from him? she wondered as her eyes fell on a chocolate vending machine.

There was a coin in her jacket and she walked over to slip it in.

"You're the only one that's nice to me. Are you happy to see me that you're giving me so much worth?" She said as she looked over the vending machine. It was probably faulty or something because it didn't stop pouring out chocolate, even when the cup was full.

"What day is it today?"She asked as she walked around.

She had thought she'd get something if she came there. She would just give up and focus on the angels of death, but the place felt familiar. Where had she seen it?

The loud noise from a passing train shook one of the paintings in the station and someone suddenly pushed her before she could get hit.

She felt something drop on her cheek and she briefly opened an eye before she looked up to see Yiannais over her, with a frame over the back of his head and blood dripping down his face.

"What...happened actually?"She swallowed.

"I accidentally saw it when I walked in.The frame was about to fall."

His weight was crushing hers. "Ah, okay... could you please move?"

"Sorry." He said and hurriedly rose before pulling her up.

"You're bleeding." She said and he raised his hand to his forehead.

"I'm fine." He said and walked over to one of the drawers. There was a first aid kit in it.

"You're sure you don't want to go to a hospital? You were definitely hit by a big nail and it seems like the wound is quite deep." She said as he opened the kit.

"No, it's alright."

"Then, the wound should be disinfected first. And well bandaged too, so it can help stop the bleeding." She said and made to help him disinfect it when he took the wool from her hand.

"I'll do it myself."

She frowned. He had already exposed the fact he knew her, so that was her chance.

"You said you avoided me because I'm a stranger but why did you return to protect me. There's no way you can pretend like you don't know me, so why are you acting like this to me."

He clenched his fist, almost afraid to talk. "I'm a person who's sinned too many times."

"What?"

"I remember. There's no way I wouldn't because I've been given such a big wound... Earlier, I was really surprised. All my life, I never expected to meet you again. I was so embarrassed by the incident...I didn't know what to do.Sorry, I made you angry with my attitude today...Also,I'm sorry for that incident."

He was done a couple of minutes later and she was surprised at how neatly he'd done it.

"So you came back here because you lost your memories?"

"Yeah, the only thing left is memories I spent with you. So that's why I was hoping I could remember the rest."

He frowned. "You really don't remember anything at all?"

"I don't remember a single thing."

"From that incident from ten years ago? The Clifford Market?"

"No. Even if I did, it's probably the image of me passing out." She replied and there was an unreadable expression on his face.

Why did he make that expression? She wondered.

"It would be faster if you saw it yourself." He said as he slipped into his shoes.

"Where are we going?"

"It's not far from here."

She turned to follow him as they headed out of the station. Everywhere there seemed to have no connection to the vampires but what happened there?

"I'm looking into someone." Kaiwan said as he drove to the repair shop.

"Why do you want to look into this specific person? Is there anything important?" Josh asked.

"No."

"He's clean. No bad history and he lives a normal life...ah there's more..."

"What's it?"

"He's very active in community service...he's quite famous too? Why are you interested in this person?"

Kaiwan scoffed. "Me? Why should I be? You think I'm like those jealous people in dramas? It's just he's too cold to Zuriña...so I became curious to know who he was. I'm not jealous."

Josh sighed on the other end. "I never said you were, but who's Zuriña?...Hold on, this person..."

He rolled his eyes. "What now? I swear if it's not something important..."

"He's one of the victims that survived that incident. The Clifford Market incident."

"What?" His eyes widened.
