Chapter 83

"Die." She screamed as she raced madly to hit Yiannais, who avoided her hit.

"Your accuracy must have dropped because of the shock." He teased.

"I'll rip you into shreds." She snarled as she curled her fist.

"I'll just attack you then." He said as he turned his palms to her, fire reaching towards her. "...without coming into contact with you.

She raised her hands to form a circle to encompass herself. "Stop using your petty tricks and come at me properly."

"Very well.I like that too." He scoffed as he charged at her.

Their powers merged against each other again and beads of sweat ran down their bodies as they stared daggers at each other, not exhausted by the fight.

"Do you know?" He asked, a scowl on his lips. "You're exactly the same as your father right now."

"What are you talking about?"

"Your weak manner is the same."

"Shut your trap." She replied.

"Your mother was the..."

"I said..." She twirled round to blast him with her fire. "...shut your trap." She yelled as she hovered to hit him, rasing up smoke from the ground.

"Your father was like you.Even a great weapon will rust if it's not used." He scoffed as he walked into the smoke. "But what would it be like if hundreds of years passed? His body and heart had become weak. A soft heart that fell apart at the sight of a single drop of my tears and your mother's power that had withered weren't enough to take my life.

Can you handle my power?..." He found her kneeling on the floor and a smile crossed his lips as he reached for her heart. "Why is a pureblood so weak? And you call yourself a true vampire?"

Her hand suddenly grabbed his hand which was closing in on her chest and she raised her head to him. "So this is how it feels. So this is how you killed my parents...This is what you did to them." She said and snapped his wrist, sending him jerking back in pain as she rose.

"Weak? Yes, I was weak." She scoffed as she raised her hands to hit off her nails to his amazement. "But I won't lose to you. You were right, I was weak too....The me from a year ago, that is."

"What?" He asked as she raced madly towards him, to throw him over her shoulder.

"How do you copy one's movement...completely after seeing it just once?" She asked as he spluttered out blood.

"Your anger towards the world? Now it's your turn to feel it...My anger towards you." She grimaced.

Vael whined at the other end. "Zuriña, was that you?"

"Vael...get off this island." She said, not taking her eyes from Yiannais.

"What's wrong?"

"Don't ask. Just go."

"Okay." He replied and she slipped off the ear piece from her ear.

"Yiannais, you said you wanted to see a true vampire, didn't you?" She asked as she made to take off her crown of thorns.

"Zuriña... Zuriña, hey you..." Vael voice faded as she dropped the ear piece to the floor.

"I'll show you." She said, dropping the crown of thorns on the floor.

*****

TEN YEARS AGO.

Yian and Zuriña were looking over books in the library one afternoon.

"You've been reading well recently, Zuriña." He said after she was done reading the comprehensive passage. "But still you read this book so well..."

"I always read do well..." She pouted as her eyes felll on the picture of a flower. Despite the fact, Yiannais had been teaching her to read words recently, she still could not keep her eyes off pictures in textbooks.

"But what's this?" She asked and Yiannais peered down to look at the picture.

"What's this?...I haven't seen it before." He said.

"I see. By the way Yian, next time, let's go here." She smiled and he received the textbook from her.

"What are you looking for?"

"The location of the flower. It has to be somewhere around here." He said as turned to her. "Want to look for it with me?"

She shrugged. "Not interested. You know how much I hate looking at words." She said and he smiled as he turned to look for it.

His eyes fell on the location and the name of the flower in less than two minutes and he turned to her. "Found it, Zuriña."

"Really?" She asked as she drew near to him.

"The name of the flower is...camelia flower. The book says there's a lot of them in Amelia island."

"Amelia island? Where's that?" She asked.

"It's far from here, but let's go there when we are older, okay?" He asked and she smiled.

"Sure."

*****

The smell of blood and sweat filled the air and he spat out blood again on landing against the hard floor. Taking off the crown made Zuriña lose control of herself and he recalled what her dad had once told him.

"Sir?" He had asked one day when he had been taking care of his injuries.

"Yes, Yian."

"I'm curious about something, can I ask?"

"Of course." He had replied.

"Why do you live in hiding?...If you have this power you can use it for good things, right?" He had asked and her father had sighed.

"Zuriña asked the same thing. She is too young to understand so I couldn't tell her but I think you might understand...There was an ancestor of our kind a long time ago.

He married a human and started a family which was against our rules. He lived harmoniously with the humans and was living a happy life...Not long after that, there was a war and he lost all his loved ones in that war. But the problem here is he lost his mind during that war and when he came to his senses, he had killed everyone in that war, even his old children."

"What had come upon him during that time?"

"In our bodies, we have a strong power that we don't even know of, but if it comes out, we will be in a state where we can't even control ourselves. And that's why we can never live with humans."

"Have you ever been in that state?" He had asked and the older man had smiled.

"Ever since then, we have not seen it been in that state. Ugh, I'm even scared of it."

He lowered his head to look down at the blood on his hand and it was clear his time was up.

A sad smile crossed his lips as he raised his eyes to see an approaching Zuriña coming towards him.

"There is something I didn't tell you, Zuriña." He whispered through telepathy. "And the you right now can't hear it, so I can say it comfortably...Do you remember?

I only waited for that day, at the station. The day where I was going to take out your heart.

I was desperate because I would be perfect if I ate your heart....It was the power I have ever wanted." He said and she walked over to jab him, across the face.

"But, when that frame was falling over you..I couldn't do it, and my thoughts were getting more complicated. When you had fainted on the field, that was the time to kill you...but I kept hesitating.

What was wrong with me? I kept asking myself.

I needed that power.

The demon in me kept pushing me by reminding me of how far I had come.

Was I piting you? Because I killed your parents? The demon kept asking me

I was not.

Was it love then? Me of all people? I didn't deserve that."

"It doesn't matter why I hesitated." He said as she grabbed him by the neck before she raised him to look up at him.

"It doesn't change the fact that my controlling ability brought the bomb all the way here

I don't expect forgiveness for my sins.

Because you're the only one who can stop me. Maybe I was waiting for you. The person who will stop me from going crazy.

I'm sorry, Riña...." Tears crawled down his cheeks as she raised her other hand to rip out his heart.

Her eyes suddenly faded back to white as his body dissipated and she dropped to her knees as tears welled up in her eyes.

"It's ended...Now, I'm really alone now. Mom...Dad...it's

all over.

Father Michael, I did well, right? Please don't scold me too much." She sniffed as she slowly dragged herself to her feet.

It was all her fault as things wouldn't have turned out be like this if she didn't exist in the first place.

"I'll end it here." She whispered as she closed her eyes and reached to rip out her heart. "Goodbye, everyone."

"It's not over yet."

She heard someone say behind her and her head whipped round. Was Yiannais still alive?

"You already forgot my voice." The voice came again and arms that didn't belong to her snaked around her waist and she turned to see Kaiwan, behind her as a pureblood. "Well, that's upsetting..."

It couldn't be.

"Detec... Detective...is it really you? But I thought you died?" She stuttered.

"Why is that the first time you said after I saved you?"

Tears rose in her eyes again, almost finding it difficult to believe. "Is it really you?"

"Would you believe me if I did this?" He asked and pulled her to his arms. "I've been waiting..." He whispered into her ear

"Detec.... Detective." She cried as she wrapped her arms around him.

They fell silent for a minute, relinquishing the reunion before he spoke.

"Riña, thank you."

"For what?" She asked as he pulled away to cup her face.

"For everything." He smiled and lowered his lips to hers.
