No one can take a mother's place is being proved true in the case of Abhi. Although Abhi was too attached to Simmi, he was missing his mother. He was getting irritated, he was crying and was not ready to eat and drink anything. When Simmi could not bear it, she called Sujata.
"Bhabhi, please talk to Abhi. He is very restless as he cannot find you." She spoke through the phone.
"Ok, I will talk to him. Give him the phone." Sunni pressed the phone in Abhi's ear. "Hello, baby, how are you?" Sujata's voice was choking but she controlled herself.
"Hello mama, bhere you are. I can't cee you." He starts sobbing.
"Baby, please don't cry, I will come quickly. Be with bua in the meantime. You are my good boy. If you will be a good boy then I will come fast."
"Ok mama tome fast I miss you. Lobe you." He spoke in his babyish voice.
"Miss you love you. bye."
" Bye mama." He hands the phone to Simmi.
"Simmi, I think he will not get irritated. Take care of him. Phone me once in a while I will talk to him."
" Ok bhabhi I will"
Sujata used to talk to Abhi around three to four times a day. Abhi has also adjusted with Simmi. On one fine day, Sujata called Simmi,"Simmi I have to look after the work here till Naman can take over the work.I have booked two tickets for you and Abhi, to Kolkata. Rajan will come to look over there. The flight is scheduled for the day after tomorrow. By the time you will finish the packing, Rajan will also reach there. I think I made myself clear."
" Ok bhabhi as you say. '' Simmi kept on listening to Sujata and agreed with whatever she said.
By the time she would reply or ask anything the line was dead.
"My baby we are going to meet mama. Come let's pack, we will fly like a bird in an aeroplane."Simmi was talking to Abhi who has become quiet in the absence of his mother.
"Mama we are going to meet mama. We will fly like a bird. We will become a bird hey hey." Abhi started jumping and dancing.
The next morning as Simmi was going towards their home gymnasium, she spotted a silhouette near the main door. She was terrified as she was all alone. The staff was not present and Reeta Auntie had gone back at night . Uncle was not feeling well. She clasps a vase from the adjoining table and moves toward the door. Unexpectedly the doorbell rings which startled her. She increased her grip on the vase and then opened the door, her eyes were closed out of fear, she was unable to see who was at the door. As soon as she was about to hit, her hand was caught mid-air. Slowly she opened her eyes and was astonished to see the person," bhai when did you come. You were supposed to come in the afternoon." Surprised by the sudden arrival of Rajan.
"First of all give me this vase and as for my coming early, I took an early flight . I want to spend some time with you and my champ. Talking of him , where is my naughty boy." His eyes were moving here and there in search of Abhi.
"Oh! Abhi, he is sleeping. Will wake up in some time. Until then why don't you freshen up and I will arrange your tea. "
"Ok, is my room open ."Simmi nods and Rajan moves to his room to freshen up.
Rajan moves to his room while Simmi goes to prepare tea for both of them. They were drinking tea and chatting when two small hands engulfed Simmi in a hug, "bua, where were you? I was missing you." Abhi winned.
"Good Morning baby, I was here only making tea for chachu (father's younger brother), see chachu has come." Simmi made him sit on his lap and pointed towards Rajan.
"I'm hungry, that is why I was searching for you." Abhi made a bad face.
" Ok, I will give you your favourite chocolate, milk." Simmi gave Abhi his milk and then both of them got ready to drop Abhi to school. After dropping Abhi in his class she went to talk to the principal about Abhi leaving the school for sometime.
On returning she went to the hospital to meet her mother,"ma, I came to tell you that I would be going to Kolkata for a few days and will come to meet you once back. Take care ma I will come back soon I kind of miss you. Love you." She hugged Rajini tightly.
She then advanced towards the doctor's cabin. Since there were no patients she went inside immediately," good morning doctor."
Lifting his head from the file he was reading, "Good Morning Simmi, did you meet your mother."
" Yes, but there seems to be no improvement in her condition from the last four years. She is like that only." Simmi could feel her voice choking with emotion.
" I agree with you. I am trying my best but it seems she has lost her will to live. She is not responding to any treatment I am giving. Sometimes I feel helpless. You know very well that your parents are my dearest friends and I will do anything to bring your mother back." Tears were forming in his eyes but he hid them as he didn't want Simmi to be disappointed.
"I'm a doctor and I will fight till the end. Monday, when she showed some positive signs, was the day Abhi was born." All of a sudden, an idea hit him. His eyes lit up and excitedly said, " Simmi if you bring Abhi here regularly then I think she may show some improvement, but I can not give you any false hopes. Medical science is based on trial and error."
"I think you're right but this is just not possible as I and Abhi are going to Kolkata." Simmi explained everything to the doctor.
"It's ok, don't worry, we can do it once you are back. Don't worry, I will take care of your mother."
After being assured by a doctor she leaves the hospital and goes to her home.
At that moment Rajan enters the living room and finds Reeta. He greets Reeta.
"How are you, Rajan?
" Fine aunty, what about you and uncle? When is Sanjay coming back?" Reagan sat next to her.
"So, many questions at a go Rajan." She chuckles slightly, Sanjay, will take at least one year to return".She caressed his head lovingly, remembering her son.
" Simmi, your flight is at noon tomorrow. I have received the ticket." Simmi joined them after finishing her packing.
After lunch, Reeta excused herself and went home, Rajan went back to the office. Since Abhi was back Simmi fed him, and both of them went to take a slumber.
