Chapter 23 Truth

Tears started rolling down his eyes, within minutes he started howling loudly. Seeing Abhi in such a condition Sanjay and Manav got worried, Manav hugged him tight, but his tears were not ceasing. Manav's shirt was getting damp but he was least bothered, Abhi's situation was something that was bothering him.

"Abhi drink this and you will feel better," Sanjay gave him some medicine and water.

"What is this uncle?" Manav was caressing Abhi's back.

" It is nothing, just a stimulant to calm his nerves and in turn make him feel better." Sanjay gave medicine and water to Abhi.

The medicine started taking its course and Abhi started calming down. His howling was turned to soft whimpers.

In between soft sobs, he spoke, "I have seen the face of the person who killed me."

"Who is it ?" Sanjay asked.

"She is Sujata Kapoor, my wife and mom." Abhi had a grave expression on his face.

There was a pregnant silence in the room. Their faces lost colour. No one dared to proceed. Manav was the first one to recoup, breaking the stillness of the room he spoke stammering a little "a...are you sure? It was only bua." Manav was horrified hearing the name of the person.

"I'm a hundred and one percent sure that it was mom. I could see her face. After pushing when I asked for help, she refused, and walked away saying it was her revenge." Abhi's hands were on his knees and he was fidgeting with his fingers.

"Do you remember something which offended someone?" Sanjay kept his hand on his shoulder and squeezed a little.

"Uncle, I don't remember anything." Abhi was clueless about the fact.

"Abhi, your mother has a habit of writing a diary. Raj has told me. If only you can find them then maybe we can find something." Sanjay reconciled this fact.

"I know where they are kept but it has a digital lock-on." Abhi pressed his forehead with his fingers.

Manav's face lit up upon hearing this "Abhi have you forgotten that I can decode these locks."

"We have to do it today itself, as mom will be arriving tomorrow." Abhi started pacing in the room. Worry lines formed on his face.

"Abhi, call me once you find the diary and after you read it. It is up to you to decide what you will do thereafter?" Sanjay got up and stood in front of him.

"Uncle she is my mother." Abhi was devastated by the fact that his mother was the one who snatched his father.

"I know that but you shouldn't forget, it is because of her you had to lead your life without your father. Secondly, think as Raj, she is the one to destroy your family." Sanjay accompanied them to the door.

" I will think about it. I want to take my leave. Come Manav." Abhi went out and sat in the car. Being in no mood to drive he tossed the keys to Manav and sat on the passenger side.

It was late afternoon by the time they arrived at the mansion. " "Where were you both, I was waiting for you both." Simmi lashed at them, the moment they entered.

"We had gone to meet a friend. After lunch we are going to the study room as I have to compose some songs, so please don't disturb me. Manav, please join me." Abhi sat at the table and started having his lunch. He was trying to keep a straight face.

Both of them went to study and bolted it. Manav started decoding the lock. It took some time to open but all that ends well is well. After searching for some time, they succeeded in finding the diaries of that period. Abhi went through them and what he found horrified him.

"How can I not recognise the girl I wanted to marry forcibly. " He was stunned by the revelation in the diary.

"You couldn't recognise as she had plastic surgery done on her face. See it is mentioned here." Manav took the diary from him and started the obvious fact.

"Whatever I did was not my intention. It was just a spur of the moment. I didn't know that Mr Khurrana was so sick. Till the time I was alive, I regretted my doing." Abhi facepalmed himself. Manav put his palm on his hand and squeezed in assurance.

It felt like an eternity when they finally got over it. They called Sanjay and passed on the information to him.

"I won't show up in the morning, as I have to pick mom, but will come in the afternoon." Abhi set the meeting with Sanjay.

"Be careful son. Keep your facade. Will wait for you". Sanjay cautioned him. He was worried that Abhi may not fall into her trap once again.

"Abhi, I want to talk to you." Manav came near him. Abhi just nodded in reply.

"If you remember everything from the past, then do you remember anything about mom being betrothed to Sanjay uncle." Manav didn't beat around the bush and asked straight forward.

"Yes, I do remember once mom(Raj's mother) told me about it. Why are you asking this now?" Abhi pressed his forehead trying to remember the answer.

"On the day when we all had gone to Khanna mansion and when the three of us were conversing and I had excused myself for some time, at that time I heard both of them talking. It was at that time I came to know that mom was forced to marry dad." Tears formed in Manav's eyes.

" I didn't know this. What are you thinking of doing at present." Abhi asked about his plan.

"I want my mom's happiness, which is with Sanjay uncle. In a few years, we will have our families and then mom will be all alone. If we somehow manage to get them married." Manav revealed his plans to Abhi.

"I understand what you are advising. Let us first finish with this then I will talk about and force her as her elder brother." Abhi reassured Manav and dragged him to his room.

Sujata landed at the airport the next morning. Mother and son meet at the airport. Little did Sujata know that her cover was blown up. Although Abhi was still unsure of what to do next, he thought of discussing with Sanjay.

Inside Sanjay's chamber, the threesome having lines of worry were sitting and conversing on the possibilities of what should be done.

" I can't do anything against her. She is my mom." Abhi was feeling bad for Sujata. She is his mother and it can't be denied.

" That is something which cannot be denied. Abhi I'm not saying that you should walk on the same path as your mother, but you can't leave matters like that."Sanjay persuaded Abhi and tried to see things from another angle.

"We don't have proof to take legal action." Manav interrupted.

"We have this handwritten confession of the hideous crime she had done." Abhi showed a letter to them.

"Abhi this is not sufficient. We need some solid evidence. If somehow she acknowledges herself, then our work would be easier." Sanjay started pacing in the room. Worry was written all over his face.

"How is that possible? I mean why would she do something like that." Abhi absently stated.

"I have a scheme. Abhi's body structure is quite similar to Raj. If your face is hidden then you can easily pass as Raj." Sanjay stopped in his tracks and was excited about his realisation.

In a hushed tone, Sanjay told everything to both the young men.

" Count me in, " Manav said raising his hand

"I can try, "Abhi said, not so sure of himself.

" You have to be very careful and don't get caught, else everything will go in the drain. Now you both should go and start working on it. Keep in touch and all the best." Sanjay dismissed them.

"Thanks, uncle," and both of them went home, thinking how to successfully carry out the scheme they had planned.
