Chapter 63
Aurora (Back to when Ethan just left)
I was losing it…
My son, my life and everything was missing.
How deep was I sleeping that I didn't hear when he was taken? I blamed myself, I was not vigilant enough. I was supposed to protect him.
I failed.
Sam led me inside the house to sit, I was too weak to walk on my own, I have not had anything to eat throughout today either because I had no appetite. I felt sick and I knew the only cure I needed was having my son come back to me.
I regretted staying here even when I knew my son's life could be in danger, I was following my heart and now look where it brought me.
Ethan had stepped out to look for him, my body itched to go out too but Sam and the others won't let me. I felt like I could hear my son calling out to me crying and it made my heart twist in pain even more. I would die if anything happened to him, I can't live without my son.
The sound of hurried footsteps brought me back to reality, one of the guards rushed towards us with panic clear on his face.
“What is it?” Sam asked concerned.
“We… we are under attack” The man struggled to force out despite his ragged breath.
Sam immediately stood up in alarm, I stood up as well in surprise. Attack? Who was so brazen to attack the pack and at such a bad time?
“Sound the alarm and send the warriors to the battleground at once, I'll go there now” Sam ordered.
“Yes, right away… but what about the alpha, he…” The man was beginning to say but Sam cut him off.
“He is not around, we would have to hold down the fort till he returns. Do as I say and meet me there” he instructed.
The man nodded and turned on his heels immediately, Sam turned to me, the worry and seriousness on his face was clear, “Aurora, I know you are going through a lot right now but I desperately need your help” He said.
I gulped and slowly nodded my head in understanding, “What do you want me to do?” The pack was under attack, I couldn’t just leave them without contributing.
“Uhmm, I need you to gather Ethan's family and other people in the west wing and take them to a safe place. And stay there with them, I don't need anyone getting hurt,” he instructed, clearly trying to stay calm in the midst of all this.
I nodded and said, “Okay” then I turned quickly and headed to the wing where the Ethan family resided. The noise must have disturbed them, the king, queen and Hadria were already at the door when I arrived.
“Aurora, what's all that noise, what's going on?” The queen asked worriedly.
“The pack is under attack. Please come with me to somewhere safe” I urged, the urgency clear in my voice.
“What?!!!”
“Under attack? How?”
“Who?”
They all exclaimed in shock, I didn't blame them, I was also shocked when I heard of the news. I started walking out of the building while the others followed closely behind me. The battleground was the alpha house so it was safer to take them out of it. I could hear the noise, war cries, growls and heavy footsteps, it was late into the night so it was loud and filled with tension. I thought of my son and my heart ached painfully, I wondered where he was now in all this pandemonium. He must be feeling so lonely and scared. I felt so hopeless, if only I could just see him right now, I would hug him and never let him out of my sight.
We were almost outside when a strange wolf charged towards us, towards me in particular. With its fierce look and speed, I knew he was one of the opponents fighting against us.
Hadria screamed and they stepped aside in an instant, it all happened so fast. I could only stagger back, confused on what to do when the wolf lunged at me with a snarl.
I thought that would be the end of me, I would leave this earth without even seeing my son. Maybe I deserved it, I was a careless mother and I failed to keep him safe.
I was about to close my eyes and accept my fate when a familiar huge wolf met the strange wolf in mid air and knocked it off before it could land on me.
The huge wolf landed on his feet while the other one fell on a wooden table which broke into pieces with sounds of whimpering.
My eyes widened as I stared at the black wolf that stood tall, it was Ethan, I could recognize and feel him anywhere.
But before I could fully process what just happened, my eyes caught a figure that brought instant tears to my eyes.
My son… Arne was back. Ethan had really brought him back.
“Mum!” He had tears in his eyes as he ran towards me, with his appearance I could tell that my poor child had gone through a lot. I ran towards him as well and we met each other halfway in a passionate bear hug. I picked him up from the ground and pressed him against me while tears leaked from my eyes.
“My baby! You are safe, thank the goddess. Oh my child, I was so scared…” I blabbered on while planting kisses all over his face and hugging him tightly.
My heavy heart finally calmed down with him back to me.
“What happened, Arne? Where did you go?” I asked curiously.
Before he could say something, Ethan released a fierce howl that paused the battle. He shifted back to his human form and with furious eyes he said, “Your leader is dead. Keenan is lying in the pool of his own blood right outside the pack. Are you still going to fight for a lost cause? Surrender or you will end up like your supposed ‘Alpha’?” His voice was loud, imbued with the alpha aura and the seriousness of his words resonated in everybody's heart.
Wait!!! So Keenan was the one responsible for all this… I felt no ounce of pity for his death.
Ethan apologetically glanced at me before returning his hard gaze to the warriors both his and the rivals who all slowly came to stand around him.
One by one they dropped their weapons, wolves in their form shifted back. Then they kneeled down with one knee and chanted, “All hail the Alpha!”
