As if yesterday was not enough Theo popped up infront of her during lunch in what seemingly was an accident which in all truth and honesty it was not. Talia on his arm. The bitch looked at her with a mixture of distain, the you-are-going-six-feet-down and the do-not-think-I-forgot-about-that-incident-last-week look.
Rita blasted her a look of her own that clearly said do not mess with me today or I will rip out those excessively expensive extensions on your bitchy head.
The fear of yesterday night had that morning turned to anger. She had spent the whole night scouting for hidden cameras in her apartment. She had gone the extra mile of checking her car, her clothes and her bag.
She had barely slept a wink because of it and the irritation that someone could be watching her in her private space.
She had more than half a mind to slam her tray into him and follow-up on the look she gave Talia. Today she had gone for Lasagna instead the usual pastry and the pleasure of seeing Theo’s stupid light blue shirt getting impossibly stained with italian and juice was starting to get unbearably cheering.
Instead of doing what she so craved to do she narrowed her eyes at Theo and sidestepped him. The Jackass.
It was times like this that she wished she had bothered making a few allies but seeing as the company’s majority of employees were supernaturals with barely any humans and her experience with supernaturals six years ago it was hard to make allies let alone friends.
Lucinda had been a miracle, the rest after the gang were acquaintances. Like the werebear, Silas, who usually fixed her car at the garage or some of the employees she had at the bakery.
She dug into her lasagna mentally chiding herself for getting something with so many calories in it. She was going to meetup with Lily at this rate.
The Lasagna itself was not all that great, she could make something better, had made better too. Maybe she would after she polished off the little Egusi soup left in the fridge.
She had not had Italian in a long time aside from right now and had not made it in a long while. It would be a nice change, it would be her reward after dieting.
Of course she would have to make it less fatty else it would unwind all the progress the intended diet would make.
After lunch Talia pre-new CEO was back and so were the rest of her coworkers.
It was official, the guy was a creepyass manwhore stalker and bad luck.
Rita could not decide what set off the hoe more, that Friday with Theo, the new regulations in the company or the look she had given her at lunch.
If it was any of that she was more than ready to follow up with the look she had given her. She really was in a do not mess with me mood.
The last straw was when Talia stepped on all three of her debit cards and her company ID, crushing them in the process. It looked like an accident, it probably was, with Talia’s initial expression before she smiled at her and continued to destroy the plastic bits.
Those who were watching stayed silent. If any of them had picked up something about her in the past three years, it was that no one messed with her personal stuff.
That meant her phone, her laptop, bag, makeup and anything she walked into the building with. Let alone mess with her cards, ID or otherwise.
Talia just crossed the line no one dared cross and that was mess with her money or her access to it.
Rita went straight for the elevator and got in. Her gaze lingering on Talia as she realized what she was about to do.
The elevator closed and started its journey. There was no use telling Marlene or Anthony, the highest either of them would do was repair the cards in an instant, nothing would really be done about the major problem.
She had had it with Talia and her cohorts, she had had it with that department, Marlene and Anthony included.
She was going to lodge a complaint against all of them, even Theo. Sure she might get suspended or fired for hiding it but she had had it up to her neck already.
The elevator dinged on the fifth floor and she got out, letting others get in. The complaints manager, Mrs Rodriguez, had her office just after the staircase. She was making a beeline for it.
She would be damned if she let Talia get away with what she just did. She came up to the door and knocked.
“Come in.” Someone said from the inside. The voice did not belong to Mrs Rodriguez.
Nevertheless she went in. Sitting in Mrs Rodriguez’s place was a woman who looked to be in her late thirties. She had grey eyes and her pink dyed hair was in a bob.
“Hello. Where’s Mrs Rodriguez?” Rita asked getting, closer to the table.
“She just had two grandchildren, got permission to leave for the rest of the week. I’m Miss Trin” She replied.
At least something good happened for someone today. Rita thought.
“So what type of complaint are you lodging and against who?”
Rita wasted no time in telling her. She was about to get to the part about Theo when the manwhore himself appeared, looking desperate and angry at the same time, eyes pinned on her. The expression vanishing in a split second.
Rita was not sure if the woman had seen it or not but she hoped she did.
“May I help you?” She asked, looking at Theo genuinely curious.
“I just came to get Rita, my girlfriend said their department head is calling her.” He said calmly.
“Ok you’ve told her. You can tell your girlfriend that she’ll be right over when she’s done. Please excuse us.” The woman said leaving no room for argument.
Rita could not believe it, things were finally going her way today. At least it would have if the woman’s phone did not beep with a message.
Rita could feel Theo’s partial relief and delight when she hurriedly started packing her bag while reading the message.
“I’m sorry, can we pick this up tomorrow. I have to go get my son, boy’s broken a bone again. At this rate I might as well leave him in plaster.”
“You’ve written your name down right?” She asked.
Rita nodded as she watched her lock the drawers with her fingerprint.
All three of them backed out of the office, Miss Trin bringing out a box that was screwed onto a long plastic stool. The complaint box.
“Ok then see you tomorrow.” She said before hurrying away from Rita and Theo.
When she was a good distance away, Theo grabbed her shoulders and this time without warning ran with her in his hold.
She did not know where they were, her head was spinning when they stopped. She was going to throw up all that Lasagna, well atleast it was going to be on Theo.
Theo’s tone might have wiped the dizziness from her brain just a fraction. His tone was slightly harsh and desperate. “What did you tell her?”
His fangs were peeking out and his hold on her shoulders hurt.
She looked at him, trying to focus despite the dizziness. “Why don’t you wait and find out? You and your girlfriend.”
Waw. Even with this amount of dizziness and urge to vomit she was still talking smart.
Anyone in this kind of situation would have done anything to get themselves out of it, away from the danger. She, however seemed to want to invite more of it.
She was smirking at the lost, I’m so dead expression on his face. That is, until a sly smile crept up on his lips and a knowing look plastered onto his face.
He bent his head to her ear, cold breath fanning her neck and making her shiver. She started struggling. But he did was not bury his fangs in her neck.
He whispered something instead. She snapped out of her dizziness in an instant, the urge to vomit growing with every word he said.
