CHAPTER 31

I found myself in a state of uncertainty as I stepped out of the mansion and entered the garden where the event was taking place. The attention seemed to be focused on me, though it was never my intention to be the center of it all. It was never part of my plan for things to unfold in this way.

Slowly, I made my way toward the table that Logan's grandmother had mentioned earlier. She had told me that a guy named David Lopez, her grandson, would be sitting there. As I approached the table, I couldn't help but notice that Logan's table was conveniently placed right next to ours.

It felt as though the old woman was deliberately stirring up trouble, and I couldn't help but sense that there was more to her plan than met the eye. Yet, despite my reservations, I still agreed to go along with it.

Regardless of the outcome of this plan, I knew that I would have to face the consequences. It was impossible for me to believe that Logan could truly care about me. I had been fooled once before, and I wouldn't allow myself to fall for such a trick again. Deep down, I knew that the truth was going to hit me hard once more, leaving me in a state of turmoil.

I took a seat next to David, a tall and striking young man with slanted eyes and fair skin. His posture and looks could easily pass him off as a model. He appeared younger than Logan but older than me.

As we settled into our seats, David turned to me and spoke, "Are you the one my grandmother mentioned? The one I'm supposed to go on a date with while I'm here in Clayland?"

I smiled and replied, "Yes, that's me. I didn't know your grandmother had already planned this."

David shook his head and chuckled, "She loves playing cupid, especially with us, her grandchildren. She has an extraordinary eye for finding good matches. If she says you and my brother Logan are a good match, then you must be."

His words caught me off guard. I couldn't help but wonder how much he knew. After all, news of the old woman's plans didn't usually spread so quickly.

"I'm just going along with her plan," I said with a hint of frustration. "Maybe in her eyes, we are a good match, but I can tell that Logan doesn't like me. If he did, he wouldn't treat me this way. Why does he have to come here and make me feel like a helper or a maid? I understand it's part of the agreement, but why does he have to expose me to so many people?"

My emotions began to pour out, and I couldn't hold back.

David nodded sympathetically and said, "I know my brother has his reasons. He's always been good at planning and decision-making. He weighs the pros and cons, and he's hardworking and intelligent. But this time, our Lola outsmarted him."

I found it hard to believe. As much as I tried not to, I couldn't help but doubt the possibility that Logan actually wanted me. Especially now, seeing him with another woman who appeared wealthy, mature, and seemingly more advantageous than me.

Glancing over at Logan's table, I noticed that he was engaged in conversation with his date. However, his gaze shifted toward me, and I couldn't decipher the expression on his face. Was he angry? And if so, why? Didn't he want another date with me?

The event continued well into the evening, and eventually, it came to an end around 11 o'clock. I was grateful that my mother knew I was here and that I had sent her some proof to ease her worries. I had also informed her that I would have someone accompanying me.

I couldn't help but express my gratitude to David. He had been an exceptional companion throughout the evening, and I had nothing but positive things to say about him. He was kind-hearted and brought a sense of fun to every interaction.

Since he was supposed to be my date, other young men at the party seemed hesitant to approach me, perhaps aware of the reputation and influence of the Lopez clan. They knew better than to meddle with one of their own.

Suddenly, a sense of urgency washed over me as I realized I needed to relieve myself. Ignoring the discomfort, I excused myself and quickly made my way to the restroom. I took the opportunity to wash my face, feeling the irritation caused by the heavy makeup. As I stepped out, I unexpectedly collided with Logan, who seemed to be in a sour mood.

Well, he was always in a sour mood whenever he would see me. I tried to distance myself from him and yet, he would do everything to have me at his beck and call.

"Why did you entertain my grandmother's craziness again? You almost gave me a heart attack," he scolded, his frustration evident.

"There's nothing wrong with that. It would be rude to refuse her. And what are you angry about? If you think I won't fulfill my obligations in the kitchen just because you're here, then you're mistaken. I will do it, even if it means my hands and fingers are worn out!" I retorted, irritation seeping into my voice.

"Why are you so stubborn? All I wanted was for you to follow me!" he exclaimed.

"Logan, it's not always about what you want! Try to consider my wants and feelings for once!" I responded, my frustration reaching its peak.

The tension between us was palpable, and as we stood there in the aftermath of our heated exchange, I couldn't help but wonder if there would ever be a way for us to truly understand each other.

"You just have to listen to me, Krystal!"

"Then, what do you think of me? A robot that you can control with a remote control, Logan? How despicable!"
