Chapter 25. System announcement

[Chapter 25: System Announcement]

Searanox woke to a sudden, heavy weight pressing down on his chest. For a moment, his mind was still clouded by the lingering shadows of a dreamless sleep. "Iris... get off me," he muttered, his voice thick with grogginess.

There was no immediate reaction. He placed a hand on the body lying on top of him and pushed lightly, expecting the coarse, familiar texture of fur. Instead, his fingers met the warmth of bare, smooth skin. His eyes snapped open instantly, the last remnants of sleep vanishing.

It was Sarah. The platinum-blonde party girl lay frozen against him, her body trembling with an intensity that made the mattress vibrate. Her wide, frantic eyes were filled with raw, naked terror, and her breathing was shallow, coming in uneven gasps.

"I... I just thought... you would be lonely... I'm sorry... I will go..." she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.

"No," he said, his voice dropping into a low, steady rumble that seemed to vibrate through the small room. "Stay."

He sat up slowly, allowing the heavy blanket to slide down to his waist. Sarah stiffened, her eyes squeezed shut as if she were bracing for a blow that was long overdue. But no pain came. Searanox looked at her for a long moment, observing the way her heavily made-up face looked in the dim morning light, before a faint, amused smile touched his lips.

"You're not scared of me, are you?"

"No," she lied, though the word was nothing more than a trembling, high-pitched whisper.

"Ohhh," he murmured, his tone mockingly sweet. "Aren't you just adorable."

He swung his legs out of the bed, the cold floor biting at his feet. `Playing all tough.` He thought as he watched her. Sarah flinched violently at a touch that never actually came. Her entire body went rigid, every muscle tensing until she looked like a statue carved from stone. She did not attempt to pull away, but the muscles in her neck stood out in sharp relief, and her knuckles were white where she gripped the sheets. The sharp, defiant intent that had been in her eyes the night before had vanished, replaced by a visible tremor in her hands.

He saw the situation for what it was: the offer was not a play for power or affection. It was a desperate bid for survival, a primitive attempt to align herself with the only person in control of the room.

"How far are you willing to go, little one?"

His breath was warm against her ear as he whispered the question, his voice laced with a dangerous curiosity. She flinched again, but she did not move away.

"Please... just... don't hurt me," she whispered, her voice breaking. "I'll do... I'll do whatever you want. Anything."

Searanox's smile widened as she shifted slightly on his chest. `No, you don't have to go that far... not yet, at least.` His smile disappeared as quickly as it had arrived. He slowly, firmly pushed her back down into the mattress.

"I won't hurt you. Let's just see what happens today before we move on to anything else." before his lips touched hers, Sarah lay stiff underneath him before reciprocating the kiss slowly. His hand slowly moved over her petite frame as he broke the kiss.

She lay there, frozen in place, as he stood and pulled on his pants and shirt. Without another word or a backward glance, he left the bedroom. Outside in the narrow hallway, Iris was leaning against the wall. Her ears were folded back tight against her head, and her tail was motionless.

`She must have heard everything.` He realized.

He looked into her amber eyes, seeing a flicker of something unreadable—jealousy, perhaps, or a deep-seated frustration—before he walked past her into the living room. The other three captives were huddled together on a worn-out, mismatched sofa they had dragged in earlier. Their faces were pale, their eyes tracking his every move like cornered animals.

He ignored them for the moment and walked to the small kitchen area, grabbing a glass of water and drinking it down. The silence in the small, prefab house was heavy and suffocating, broken only by the distant, mournful rustle of the wind through the trees outside.

"Relax," he said, his voice echoing in the cramped space.

From behind him, Iris suddenly moved. She wrapped her arms around him in a crushing embrace and bit down hard into his shoulder. The bite was strong, the pressure of her teeth unmistakable through his shirt, but it wasn't enough to draw blood. It was a clear, primal message—a display of absolute possessiveness.

Searanox flinched slightly at the sharp sensation but did not pull away. He turned within her embrace, his hands gently cupping her furred face. Her silver eyes were intense, swirling with a volatile mix of jealousy, hurt, and a fierce, unwavering loyalty.

"Iris," he said softly, his thumbs stroking the hair on her muzzle. "I'm not going anywhere. But I need resources. I need allies. And sometimes, allies come with... attachments."

Iris's ears twitched, her lips drawing back slightly to reveal a hint of her sharp teeth. She remained silent for a long moment, her gaze searching his for any sign of deceit, before she finally relaxed her grip. Her arms remained wrapped around his waist, grounding him.

And then, the world went silent.

It wasn't just a lack of noise; the world itself ground to a sudden, absolute halt.

It was not a sound. It was not a vibration. It was a sudden cessation of everything that defined existence. The wind died mid-breeze. The birds in the forest froze mid-flight. The leaves on the trees hung motionless on their branches, defying gravity. Time itself seemed to hold its breath.

Then, the sky began to bleed.

A deep, impossible crimson spread across the heavens like a massive, weeping wound in the fabric of reality. It pulsed with a slow, heavy, cosmic rhythm. A sudden pressure descended upon the clearing—immense and crushing. It didn't weigh on the body, but on the soul itself. The very air felt thick and charged with an alien energy that made Searanox's teeth ache and his skin prickle with static.

A chime echoed. It didn't resonate in the ears; it sounded directly inside the mind of every living being on the planet. It was a sound that was both infinitely complex and perfectly, terrifyingly simple.

A window of pure, blinding light materialized before Searanox's eyes, overlapping the real world. A quiet, soothing voice spoke the words as they appeared.

[Global Announcement]

─ Inhabitants of Planet Earth, Designation: 734, Sector 82-Gamma

─ Your world is being integrated into the greater Multiverse.

─ Reality is being rewritten.

─ Physics are being recalibrated.

─ Remain calm. Adapt. Survive.

The message hung in the air for a single heartbeat before vanishing into the crimson haze. The pressure intensified, the sky pulsing faster and faster. Then came the pain.

It wasn't a physical agony, but a deep, cellular rewriting. The energy of Mana—raw, untamed, and ancient—flooded the planet in a torrent of alien power that saturated every atom of matter.

[System Notification]

─ [Title: Genocidal]

`That's a bit much for a Title, don't you think?` Searanox thought, a cold shiver running down his spine. He was a monster, a true monster by any human standard, and now he had the official System designation to prove it.

He felt a light, warm tingle wash over his body, but the four girls were not as fortunate. All four of them were now lying on the floor or the couch, their bodies convulsing in agony as the mana forced its way into their systems. As quickly as the feeling had come for Searanox, it disappeared, but it left the girls twitching and gasping on the floor.

Then came a second, more localized chime, directed specifically at the five individuals in the room. A new window materialized before Searanox.

The crimson light in the sky began to recede, fading slowly back to a pale, washed-out blue that looked slightly different than before. The world slowly came back to life; the wind resumed its gentle rustle, and the birds began to chirp tentatively, though their songs sounded sharper, more melodic.

But the air, the light, even the ground beneath his feet felt different. Everything had changed. A fundamental rewriting of reality had occurred. Searanox looked at Iris, who stood beside him. Her posture was tense, her muscles coiled like springs, but her expression remained unreadable.

He looked at the four women on the floor. Their bodies were slowly ceasing their convulsions as they regained consciousness. Their eyes were wide, filled with a mixture of residual pain and a new, terrifying understanding. The age of man was over. The age of the System had begun.

Searanox slipped out from Iris's embrace, his movements fluid and sure. He walked to the door and pulled it open. The bright sunlight was a stark, unwelcome intrusion. He flinched, a sudden, sharp pain shooting through his eyes.

"Fuck me... that stings," he hissed, shielding his eyes.

He immediately summoned four Recon drones and sent them out to scout and map the surrounding area.

The world outside was no longer the one he had walked through just an hour ago. The trees were noticeably taller, their leaves a more vibrant, almost glowing shade of green. The air was unnaturally clear, filled with a faint, sweet scent he couldn't identify. He could feel the new energy—the Mana—permeating everything. It was a constant, subtle hum at the very edge of his senses. He looked at his hands and saw a faint, almost invisible aura surrounding them, a tangible manifestation of the power that now coursed through both him and the world.

Slowly, he turned back toward the four girls. "Which of you played video games in your free time?"

The question hung in the still, charged air. A moment of silence stretched, heavy with unspoken terror and confusion. Then Vanessa, the redhead, raised a trembling hand.

"I... I did," she stammered. "Some RPGs. Why? What does that have to do with... this?"

"Good," Searanox said, a cold, calculating glint appearing in his eyes. "Then you understand the concept of classes. Of leveling. Of becoming stronger."

He looked at each of them in turn, his gaze intense and unwavering. "You have a choice now. A real one. You can remain helpless, little more than prey for the monsters that will now roam this world. Or you can become strong. You can become my assets, my party members. I don't want you to pick a class at random right now just because the prompt looks nice. The System is too unpredictable, he reasoned. I want to see if there are hidden classes or if one can get something better than the normal garbage by waiting. I will choose your classes when the time is right. I will mold you into what I need you to be. In exchange, I will protect you. I will train you. I will make you strong enough to survive what is coming. But you will be mine. Your loyalty, your effort, and your lives will belong to me."

He let the words sink in, watching the flicker of fear and hope war in their eyes. The world outside had changed, but the rules of power remained the same. It was all about leverage. And he held all of it.

"We... we accept," Vanessa finally said, her voice trembling but firm. "We'll do whatever it takes to survive."

Searanox turned back to the door, a grim smile on his face. It was then that one of his drones picked up something abnormal—a high concentration of mana. It was only about five kilometers away from their current location.

"Iris, one of my drones found something that gives off a high amount of mana. Any thoughts?" he asked, looking over his shoulder at her.

"It is likely a Dungeon," she responded instantly, her administrative knowledge surfacing with mechanical precision. "They are System-generated combat instances designed for controlled advancement. They are finite environments with a defined objective: full clearance. They scale to the world's status and provide reliable, but challenging, opportunities for leveling and acquiring resources. The entry requirement is typically Level 10, though there are variations."

A dangerous, eager glint entered her eyes. "It would be an excellent test of our current capabilities. And a proving ground for the new... assets."

"Interesting," Searanox murmured, a plan already forming. He looked at the four women. "It seems that I have to leave you for a while. I will check this dungeon out. If I'm certain that I can pull all of you through it safely, I’ll come back for you. Iris, you keep them safe until I return."

He dismissed the drone hovering over the dungeon and summoned a travel drone, holding onto its recessed grips. It pulled him out of the door and into the distance, accelerating quickly. Searanox left the women in the care of Iris, the wolf-woman giving him one last possessive glance as he departed.

The five-kilometer journey didn't take long at the drone's blistering pace. He arrived at the entrance—a swirling, hypnotic vortex of deep blue energy with a faint, light purple touch to its center. It was a gateway to another world.

The drone dissolved beneath him as he landed lightly on the soft, mutated grass. With a surge of genuine excitement, he looked at the entrance. The sense of anticipation was building within him, a pressure in his chest.

Taking a deep breath, he reached out and touched the surface of the portal.
