Klaus
I shouldn’t have underestimated Jenna regarding this, she must have smelled my scent. Since there was no benefit in hiding, I reluctantly came out of the bathroom and Scarlett followed me with her head down.
Jenna smirked and mind-linked me, “weren’t you enjoying eavesdropping on our conversation?”
Rolling my eyes, I ignored my sister again. She strolled to Scarlett and said gently, “you continue your shower, Scarlett. We’ll talk later and I’m sure that now you know that I’m your mate’s sister.” Jenny stifled a giggle and I could see the embarrassment on Scarlett's face.
“I mistook you, I…um, thought that you were calling Marcus your brother,” I was totally clueless about their conversation. I just heard her complaining about me to Jenny. “Though I’m surprised how a monster can have such a sweet sister like you,” she taunted, shooting a glare my way.
A frown took form on my face when they talked about Marcus, he was already being way too friendly with my mate than he should.
“For your kind information, I’m Jenna’s brother, not Marcus. And trust me, you haven’t seen the predator in me yet otherwise, you’d never dare call me a monster in my presence,” my bluster didn’t even budge the smirk on her pretty face though I took a step closer to her to intimidate her.
Scarlett caught her stomach and started chuckling obnoxiously. “As if I’d be afraid of that predator. You lost against me in a fight. Twice, remember?” She said smugly, taking a step forward to show me that I couldn’t scare her.
“Well, I thought that you needed my help to survive my brother but I guess I was wrong. You’re so capable of protecting yourself, Scarlett,” Jenna asserted animatedly, shrugging and crossing her arms. “You guys fight like a married couple and don't even bother with my presence in the room, go on,” she slouched in the chair. “I’m enjoying the show, just missing popcorn and snacks.”
A deep red blush crept onto Scarlett’s cheeks, she rushed into the bathroom without uttering a word and I couldn’t help but feel fluttered seeing her blushing.
Sauntering to the chair beside Jenna, I sat my ass on the chair but she scrutinized her gaze and demanded an explanation. I heaved a sigh and wiggled my face to notice her green eyes staring at me.
“You better fill me in with whatever happened these past few days before I lose my temper and tell your mate that you’re gay,” Jenna offered me a tight-lipped smile, the corners of her mouth twitching into a smirk.
Faking a laugh, I rolled my eyes at her lame threat. “Do you really think that I care about her, Jenny? My poor little sister doesn’t know me, then.”
“Klaus Nelson who doesn’t give a fu-k about anyone got hurt when his mate sounded sad while talking about him. I hope it answers your last statement,” Jenna let out bluntly, bringing her face closer so she could stare into my eyes and find the truth.
I averted my eyes, shaking my head and deciding not to argue with her further as it was tough to lie to her. “After arguing with father, you left for the university so you must not know about my throne ceremony along with the wedding on the same day.”
“What the fu-k! Are you kidding me?” Jenna rose from the chair, her mouth dropped to the floor. “This can’t be true. There is no way you’re marrying someone else after finding your mate.”
“Goddess, Jenny, my sissy, lower your voice. I don’t want Scarlett to know about this yet,” I tried to shush her. Scarlett would get so hurt when she’ll find this out and maybe she’ll reject me as soon as she found out and I wasn’t ready for that yet.
Jenna was four years younger than me, my father never pampered her as she deserved so I always treated her like my daughter. I have called her Jenny since she was a toddler, she was so cute in childhood and as she grew old, she was turning into a beautiful lady.
She rested her head on my shoulder and sobbed, “you…you shouldn’t…”
“Hush, Jenny. Breath. Take a long breath and stop crying,” I felt the blood in my veins going hot, seeing her weeping.
“There should be a way to stop your wedding. Maybe we should confront them and tell them that you have found your mate so you can’t marry their daughter, they might understand,” she raised her head, anticipating what she said could help me out.
My fists urged me to meet the wall, how badly I wanted this to work but I knew that it won’t.
“Maybe you should tell your fiance the truth and she might be able to make her family understand,” Todd also chimed in, making an innocent face.
“She won’t, Todd. She is not like Scarlett, she’s desperate to get married to me. I’m ignoring her texts and calls so I know this matter better than you or anyone else.” My words shut Todd, he again went back to his place.
“Things don’t work out that way, sweetie,” muttering to Jenny, I kissed her forehead. “They will take it as an offense and will call a war on us which we can’t afford at this moment. We’re the lowest pack in the rank for a reason and they’re the highest so we won’t get any alliance help either.”
“No one has the right to interfere between mates, only Moon Goddess gives us mates and we shouldn’t go against her decision. Whoever went against Goddess’s will, they suffered their whole life and even didn’t get an easy death.” Jenny argued with me, taking her face away from me.
Grabbing her hands, I dabbed her palms to calm her down. She loved me and she didn’t want me to suffer through the pain of rejection or separation from my mate.
“You’re indeed right, Jenny. But they aren’t scared of this, they don’t care about me or their daughter. They just care about their reputation, it’s filthy politics and you don’t understand that but I promise you that you’ll never have to suffer through this,” I explained to her the thing that she wasn’t ready to comprehend.
“Werewolves fight for their mates, brother. I’ll also fight for my mate in the future,” she mumbled with glistening eyes. “I’m always with you, I’ll try to explain your situation to Scarlett and request her not to sever the bond.”
If it wouldn’t have been for my pack, I would have fought for my mate, too. After all, I wasn’t frightened of anyone. I just couldn’t be selfish enough for my pack to suffer through a war.
A war between the lowest and supreme packs would cause my pack’s demolishment. I wish I would have been an ordinary pack member, not an Alpha. Life would have been much easier that way, nobody would have played political games with my life.
Shaking my head, I refused her to do so. “I don’t want to spoil her life for a mate who can’t even be with her, can’t fight for her. She deserves a better mate and I’m sure that after rejecting me, Moon Goddess will give her a mate who’ll cherish her.”
Todd growled, “you son of a bitch. I won’t let that happen, I’ll kill everyone who comes between us and our mate, she’s ours.” He warned me and shunned me.
He was also pissed off, even though I didn't want to lose her but did we have any choice?
“Wait, I've got an idea,” Jenny’s eyes blazed with hope as she spoke, “what if your fiance finds her mate, too? And what if she calls off the wedding and engagement herself?”
It would be a safe game to try our last trick to get me out of this mess. “Damn me! Why didn’t this thought come across my mind?”
Jenny jumped in excitement and screamed out, "let's get the mission started, brother. We'll help her find her mate and get you out of this stupid engagement."
I felt a different aura in the room and found Marcus scooting toward us. "Your fiance wants to see you, Klaus. She's..."
Marcus stopped midway when he glimpsed Scarlett coming out of the bathroom and I prayed to the Goddess that she wouldn't have heard whatever Marcus babbled.
