The office felt particularly empty today, his schedule today was clear, he had no meetings and no dinners or luncheons to attend, and for the first time in a long time, he felt quite lazy so he decided to use this free time to do some digging and investigation.
The bloodied pictures that had been delivered to Donna yesterday now occupied one side of his desk, most of the blood had dried off now but he knew some would still stain his desk, that was not a concern of his now, his concern was on knowing who had sent this ridiculously disturbing threat to Donna.
He had called for the boys to meet him at the office, that had been thirty minutes ago and they were not yet here. On a normal day, he would had requested that they meet him in his house, but he had Donna staying at his place and he didn’t want for her to disturb him by intruding nor for him to disturb her stay.
He let out a long breath as he reclined in his chair, interlocking his fingers as he placed them over his lap. He had two people in mind as his suspects, one was Laura because she had attacked Donna before, and the other was Cheryl, also because she had attacked Donna as well, but then she was mad enough to send such a threat as it seemed like the two women had some kind of bad history together. And he knew it was not something that had started from that boutique shop.
“Laura…” he said out loud. He felt more inclined to believe she would be the one but then according to Donna, no one knew of her daughter's existence. No one knew she was a mother.
The door to his office swung open, breaking his thoughts. He looked up to see Mark and Sebastian enter his office, shutting the door behind them.
“Alpha.”
“Alpha.”
They both greeted before taking a seat on the other side of the desk. Keith’s eye brows furrowed in question.
“The kid didn’t come along?” he asked, referring to Shelby.
“No. I didn’t bring him along because I felt this might be more of an internal matter by the way you had sounded over the phone.” Mark said, somewhat feeling like he had done something wrong. “I could call him to come right now if you-”
“No.” Keith raised a hand to him in protest. “Leave it be, I think it is better he is not here anyway, and besides, the reason I called you here has noting directly to do with the pack.”
“Okay…” Mark replied, shifting uncomfortably on his seat, occasionally glancing over to Sebastian who was also eager to know why Keith had called them to come over and to come to the office instead of the house.
“What blood is that?” Keith asked them, pointing to the blood stained box sitting on his desk. Both Mark and Sebastian leaned forward to take a whiff, after which they sat back down.
“It is pig’s blood.” Sebastian replied with a scrunched face.
“What is a box stained with pig’s blood doing on your desk.” Mark asked in confusion, and then almost immediately he frowned. “What this some sort of a threat to you, Alpha?!”
Keith let out a sigh and fixed his eyes on the box. “It might as well have been.”
Mark and Sebastian exchanged worried looks.
“This was delivered to my personal secretary yesterday, with bloodied pictures of her daughter placed inside.” he then leaned forward and planted his elbows on the desk.
“Her daughter?” this confused Mark. He knew Donna Brooks, even though he knew her only as his Alpha’s personal secretary, he had been the one to do the diggings into her life and nothing came up of her ever having a child or ever being married. “She has a child?”
Keith nodded his head in response. Sebastian just leaned back and stayed away from the conversation, he knew Donna Brooks, she was Keith’s personal secretary and asides from that fact he didn’t know anything else about her as he had not concerned himself with finding out anything else as he knew his Alpha didn’t like people unnecessarily probing into his life.
Mark went on. “But she is unmarried-”
“That part is true.” Keith cut him off. “She is unmarried, true, but she had a child. Has a child.”
Mark’s face carried the expression f a very confused man. “I don’t…” he trailed off.
“I too only found out recently but that is not the main point right now.” Keith went on, the frown on his face deepening. “This is a problem because according to Donna, she has told nobody of her daughter’s existence, yet someone was able to target the girl, sending a threat to Donna.”
He huffed as he pushed himself up and off the chair. He dug his hands into his pants pockets as he rounded the table, walking past Mark and Sebastian who turned in their chair to follow Keith’s movement.
“I want to know who had sent that to her.” he finished.
“You have a suspect, Alpha?” Mark said as he studied Keith. He could tell by the look in his eyes that he had someone in mind.
“Yes.” Keith replied and turned to face him. “Two actually, but they are only just suspects.”
“We could start with them.” Sebastian said, finally joining the conversation. “They could be our leads, or give us leads.”
“True.” Mark supported.
Keith paused, he tried to think of anyone else that he could associate this with, he could not point out Maxwell because he was sure that the man also didn’t know of Donna’s child, although he would have been a good suspect.
He could not in any way link Hunter either or any of the other rouges, except one. Wayne! How had he allowed that to slip his mind?! Wayne knew of Donna’s child, if Wayne knew then he could have told Maxwell and Hunter. Fuck!
“The suspect list just got longer boys.” He said out loud, tilting his head back to look at the ceiling with a sigh. “And a whole lot complicated. Fuck.”
