"But will she be able to pull off anything?" Sebastian had asked. He didn't exactly know Laura that well, but if her words could trouble their Alpha so, then maybe she wasn't so ordinary.
"Don't forget her brother is now a rogue," Mark had pointed out, "And any opportunity to attack the Alpha would be welcomed by him."
"That's another thing to consider," Keith said and let out a long breath. It seemed he had gathered a lot of enemies for himself, and he was still gathering.
"Maxwell can be very unpredictable but Hunter is more dangerous and he seeks to end your life," Mark spoke up, "Laura still holds love for you, she would not risk getting them involved."
True, that was another way of looking at things, but still Keith felt uneasy, "Laura is a cunning one, and for this reason I am uneasy with how intertwined she happens to be in all this,"
"Still, we should consider Maxwell and Hunter to be one of her options, better than being unprepared for them," Mark said.
Keith groaned, "What else?"
"If she was going to come at you, wouldn't she want to use The Aviary?" Shelby asked
Mark faced him, "Use The Aviary, how exactly? Besides she's not all that known, who would she know within the Aviary that holds enough power to be a bother?"
Shelby still continued, "How about it's CEO?"
"CEO of the Aviary?" Sebastian asked, rather perplexed that Shelby would suggest him, "Jeremy Xiu? How would Laura know him?"
"But she doesn't need to," Shelby maintained, "All she needs to do is to fix an appointment with him."
"Okay, okay," Mark said like he was beginning to understand where Shelby was heading to, "But Jeremy Xiu is a rather busy man and it is known that he keeps to himself. Besides he's a..."
"A vampire," Keith cut in and Shelby went quiet instantly. He hadn't known that.
"Jeremy Xiu of the Aviary is a vampire?!" He asked in shock. He looked at Mark and Sebastian who seemed to know.
Keith nodded then continued, "And Laura is a werewolf, there's been a history of bad blood between us werewolves and them vampires, now we just respect boundaries. I doubt she would go to him or he would extend a helping hand."
Shelby started quiet for a while, just processing before he snapped out of his initial shock. "I don't see why he wouldn't."
Keith turned now to face Shelby, his expression showed anger but he wasn't angry, "Why would he?"
"For two reasons really," Shelby began to explain, "First is this history of bad blood between vampires and werewolves, why would he want to help you by denying her?"
Keith narrowed his eyes, somehow he could see sense in what the kid was saying. He rolled a finger in the air and took a step towards him, urging him to go on.
"Second, he's the CEO of a rival company, currently in second place and forced to accept scrapings from Ortho Speare, would he want to miss out on an opportunity to top you?" He asked a rhetorical question but Keith gave a reply unconsciously.
"No," he seemed to ponder as he turned back towards the window, walking away from them, "No, he wouldn't want to. You present a good point Shelby."
Shelby smiled and bowed slightly in Keith's direction, feeling very pleased and proud of himself.
"We'll need to keep an eye on Laura and monitor what she does and who she comes in contact with," Mark spoke up.
"Yes, that would be wise," Sebastian supported, "So we'll be trailing her then?"
"Right now I... " Keith was saying but stopped when he sensed someone else walking into the house. He frowned sightly, "Let's end it here for now. You boys keep a close eye on her and report everything back to me, even the littlest detail."
"Will do Alpha," Mark assured him.
Keith hummed and waved a hand in the air, "You can leave now, I have an appointment with someone else here."
"With someone else?" Shelby asked without thinking and Keith frowned at him.
"It's William Shawn, the doctor," Mark said as he stood up from the chair. His eyes unconsciously darted to Keith who just stared at him with a blank expression, "I sensed him entering the house."
A knock came to the door once, and without waiting for a reply, it was pushed open. They all turned their attention towards the door to see the elderly doctor William Shawn standing there with a professional smile on his face.
"Alpha," he addressed Keith.
"Doctor Shawn," Keith replied to him with a nod.
"Shall I give you more time before...?" William started but Keith cut him off with a wave of a hand.
"No, no," Keith said to him, "We're done here, we can proceed now."
William smiled, "Well in that case, I'll go ahead of you."
Keith nodded his head in approval and watched as the man turned away from the study, heading down the hall way.
"I'll send for you boys when it's necessary," Keith said as he dismissed them. He walked past them and was already leaving the study room, "Watch Laura and report everything to me immediately."
The boys stood in the room as they watched Keith walk out, with both his hands shoved into his pants pocket. His head was down and his stride was slow, it was as if he was reluctant to go with Doctor Shawn. They could understand his pain.
"Alpha," Mark called out to him in worry, Keith turned to his direction, "How is she?"
Keith only nodded his head but didn't reply. He knew whom Mark was asking after, all of them knew the reason for doctor Shawn being in his house now, it was for the same reason he had been coming for the past ten years.
He flashed a half smile at Mark before he turned away, following Dr. Shawn down the hall.
