Donna seethed and slammed her hand down severally against the steering, beating it with all her might as anger pulsated through her. Cheryl had crossed all limits by kidnapping her daughter and she would make her pay for this.
She could sense her daughter's fear, it got stronger as she neared the vehicle and her heart broke.
"Mummy's here baby," she cried, swerving left and right to pass other vehicles so she could keep up with the van and not loose sight of it.
The van didn't stop, neither did it slow down. It ran all the red lights and stops, ignoring the speed limit. Donna did the same, there was something more important right now than obeying the laws of the road.
Soon she heard the sounds of the police sirens, and relief washed over her, but it was a feeling that didn't last as different scenarios begun to play in her head.
What if the police decided to shoot at them thinking they were criminals? What if they used force to stop them? But more than that, she feared that the person behind the wheels of the van didn't have the necessary driving skills to keep the van going at such high speed without crashing it.
"Oh God, oh God, oh God," she prayed over and over, sniffing and occasionally wiping her tears before returning her hand back to the steering wheel as her grip on it tightened.
She focused on the van speeding away and she pushed down on the accelerator just enough to keep up with the vehicle . She could not afford to loose it in the traffic, her daughter was in there, everything she was living for.
Her phone rang just then, and a quick glance at the screen showed that it was Keith calling. Without wasting much time, she slid on the receive button and his voice came through almost immediately.
"Donna, where are you right now?!" His angry voice rang out clear as soon as she had picked the call, "Mr. Donovan's lawyers are here!"
"Keith!" She called out his name desperately, sniffing and crying, and still trying to be stable, "They got her Keith! They have her!"
"What are you talking about?" His voice seemed to calm, but only a bit.
Donna sniffed and pushed down on the accelerator even more as she tried to match the speed of the van she was chasing after. She didn't want to loose them, "They have my daughter, Keith! She's been kidnapped!"
"Kidnapped?!" He sounded alarmed, "Donna, where are you?" He asked, genuinely concerned, "Where are you? I'll come to you right away."
"I'm on the highway," she replied to him, "I'm in chase."
"You're in chase?" He sounded alarmed. She could hear the noise in the background, she heard his keys jingle like he just snatched them from the desk, his running footsteps and the slamming of a door, "Can you see the plate number of the vehicle?"
"I can," she replied to him.
"Good," she heard the elevator ding and then his pacing footsteps, "Call it out for me."
"Okay," she sniffed, "It's er... 4-6-3... Oh my God!"
"Donna!" Keith called out her name, afraid something had happened.
"Alix!" Donna screamed as she watch the van begin to swerve dangerously, "Keith! It's going to crash! My daughter is in there! It's going to crash!"
The van seemed to speed up a bit before it swerved into incoming traffic and Donna could feel her heart about to burst. She stretched out one hand as her eyes glowed green and she cast a spell.
The van vibrated and then skidded back to it's lane, inches away from being slammed by a truck. Donna gasped and still held her hand out. There was a sudden bump in her car, causing her hand to lift before the spell broke.
"No! Alix!" She screamed out. The van lifted slightly just as the front wheels turned and Donna watched in horror as the vehicle tilted then fell, beginning a horrifying roll.
"Alix!" Donna screamed out her daughter's name as she watched the van tumble in front of her severally before coming to a stop. She slammed on the brakes, bringing her car to an abrupt halt.
"Alix!" She screamed again and jumped out of her car, running towards the van which now laid on its roof and was smoking.
The accident had caused a build up and people were beginning to gather, with most of them filming what was happening. Tears stung Donna's eyes as she ran for the van, frantically searching for a door she could open.
"Alix!" She called out repeatedly and desperately, "Alix! Talk to mummy!"
She found the door and pulled but it wouldn't bulge. She kept pulling and calling out her daughter's name, fearing the worst when there was no reply back.
She cried now, still yanking at the door. Without thinking, her eyes glowed green as she cast a silent spell, and then she yanked the door one more time. It came loose, completely tearing of from it's hinges. She gasped.
"Alix baby?" She called one more time and that was when she heard her daughter's cry.
"Alix!" She found her, trapped underneath a man who seemed to just be unconscious and not dead. Donna pulled the man away and reached for her daughter who in turn stretched her hands towards her mother.
She scooped her daughter up into her arms and out of the van before placing her on the ground, hugging her tightly and sobbing uncontrollably.
A lot of people had gathered now and were filming the crash, but Donna didn't pay attention to that, she had found her daughter, unharmed and...
She pulled away from the embrace to inspect her daughter for any injuries and that was when she really noticed the blood around her mouth and neck.
"Alix baby, are you hurt?" She asked. Alix shook her head and then began to cry, it was only then Donna noticed the fangs that had grown. She gasped and quickly covered her daughter's face with her jacket.
Without wasting any more time, she carried Alix into her arms and ran for her car, placed her in the back seat securely, jumped into the driver's seat and sped out of the area just as she began to hear the police siren draw close.
