Chapter Paternity

Paige placed the coffee on the counter and Donna picked it up, still trying to guess who the person was that had come looking for her and not Keith. She looked up to see Keith standing by the elevator that had just dinged open, looking at her and she moved instantly, running in her heels to meet up with him so they could ride up together.

They stepped out of the elevator when it opened up on their floor and Donna was the first to step out. She was too curious and to eager to know who was waiting for her in her office, but when she opened the door to her office, surprise and anger washed over her on seeing who it was.

"Jeremy?"

He turned around immediately and stood up sharply from the seat, running to where Donna was. In an instant, he grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into his embrace.

Donna gasped as she fell into his chest, for a few seconds her mind went blank before she regained herself and pushed away from his embrace.

She frowned, "What are you doing?"

Jeremy held her hand lightly in-between his palms, looking at her lovingly, "It must have been hard, wasn't it? I'm sorry I had to put you through that."

Donna frowned deeper in confusion, she tried to pull her hand away from his grasp but his hold on her was strong, "What are you talking about, let go."

But Jeremy only pulled her closer, "Why didn't you tell me? All these years and you didn't say anything?"

Donna blinked severally now, she really didn't understand what was going on, "What are you saying? Tell you what?"

Jeremy smiled and tried to caress her face but she stepped away from his hand, "Why did you tell me that you were pregnant? That we have a child together?"

Donna's eyes widened and she yanked her hand away from his forcefully, taking a step back from him, "What nonsense are you on about?"

Her voice shook and are could barely maintain eye contact with him.

"I'm talking about my girl, Alix. Why didn't you tell me about her sooner? I would have dropped everything and come for you. You and my daughter."

Donna shook her head and looked away, "You have no daughter with me Jeremy."

He frowned, "You were never good at lying Donna, even now, you're not. I wish to see her."

Donna looked at him in anger, her eyes had now glazed over with tears, "What did you say?"

"Alix, I want to meet with her," he said more boldly now, “How could you keep her away from me Donna? All these years, without her father.”

“She is not your daughter!" Donna fired at him. She threw the hot cup of coffee at his feet in anger. But Jeremy didn't move, instead he got more bolder.

“I demand to see my daughter right now!” Jeremy yelled back defiantly.

“You have no right Jeremy, no right to make such demands! She is not your daughter! She shares no ties with you!”

All the while, Keith stood by the door, both hands shoved into his pockets as he stared at the two go at each other. His anger was building, he could sense it and his wolf growled, wanting to be let out.

He fixed his eyes on Jeremy as he continued to demand to see Alix with the wild argument that she was his daughter. He had studied Donna's reaction when he had first made the demand, calling Alix his daughter.

She had figdeted, like he had just discovered her secret, and it had caused his heart to ache. He looked at Jeremy now, Alix's potential father and gritted his teeth. Keeping his wolf at bay was getting more and more difficult to do.

He stepped in.

"Get out," he said to Jeremy. His voice came out calm, forcefully calm and he didn't look at Jeremy. He kept his head low and his eyes to the ground because he feared that if he looked at the man as he was this close to him, his wolf would jump out and bite his head off.

Donna snapped her head around, she had completely forgotten that Keith had been behind her the whole time. Shock washed over her, shock and fear.

Shock of him now finding out whom Alix's real father was, and fear of how he would react to it. She knew how he had been when he found out she had a daughter, how much now? Knowing that his rival in business was the father of her child whom she had lied was dead.

She stepped back as Keith came forward, coming to stand in between Jeremy and herself.

"Stay out of this Keith. We..." Jeremy was saying but Keith was in no mood to be talked to.

"Get the fuck out of my company!" He yelled out. He could hear his wolf, he could feel it just wanting to tear out of him and devour Jeremy right where he stood. But he needed control.

Jeremy looked at him, the anger on his face was clear, but he knew he could not fight Keith, not here anyway, he would be the one in the wrong. He gritted his teeth and looked at Donna.

"We will have this talk again, Donna. You cannot keep her away from me any longer," he said to her before he walked out of the office, purposely bumping shoulders with Keith.

Keith stood still for a minute long after Jeremy had gone. He could sense Donna's unease as she stood behind him, he was angry, he was too angry. He turned around swiftly, walked past Donna without a word and into his office. He slammed the door shut so hard that Donna shuddered, and it had been loud enough for the people on the ground floor to hear.

Donna staggered and her knees grew weak. She fell into a chair, placed her head into her hands and began to cry, wondering how she was going to make this right with Keith.

Once again she had betrayed his trust.

Once again.
