Chapter 56

/Samantha/

Not even flinching, Henry replied, "I realize we're young James, but I love your daughter more than anything." Henry didn't even blink an eye.

I yelled once again as James landed a full punch to the face of the man, almost knocking him down. Richard immediately rushed to his feet and grabbed James, exclaiming, "That's my son!" as he pushed James away from Henry. Everyone was standing up at this point and yelling at one another; James was attempting to get to Henry, but Richard was preventing him from doing so. Even our mothers were seen yelling at and crying over their husbands.

When I looked over to Henry, I noticed that his lip was leaking, and he appeared upset. He took hold of my hand and dragged me behind him just as James managed to disengage himself from Richard and make a grab at my wrist. "Samantha, you are not going to remain married to that man! Get up and go to your room right now! The muddle will finally be cleared out on Monday when we meet with an attorney "He let out a furious yell.

I whispered to myself while firmly grasping the back of Henry's shirt and said, "We're not getting divorced." As James made another attempt to grab me, I could feel him tensing up, but he managed to twist his body just enough to keep me out of reach.

"Like hell you're not! You're getting a divorce, and we won't watch idly by while the two of you squander your lives like this—I mean, the two of you aren't even dating, and you have kids! "Richard let out a shout.

Both of my mothers gave each other a sideways glance "Please, James, take a deep breath and try to calm down. This is an important topic, and we need to discuss it. There must be some solution to this problem that does not involve a divorce. The fact that Samantha is not yet 18 raises the possibility of an annulment." My mother inquired as if this would be the answer to all of our issues.

Not legal? Oh my God, aren't we supposed to be married? I was nauseous with disappointment, but I forced the sensation aside because there was no time to think about it now; if it's not legal, then we'll deal with that later, perhaps by getting married again or doing something else. Henry and I have decided that we want to get married, therefore we won't be obtaining an annulment either, I said with conviction.

Richard came up behind me and smacked me across the face in a snappy manner. Henry immediately produced a sound that could be described as a snarl, seized his father, and pushed him firmly against the wall.

"She must never, ever be touched by you! It makes no difference to me if you are my biological father or not; if you ever touch my wife in the future, I will kill you "The tone of his voice was so enraged that it should have been enough to kill him by itself. He hissed as he turned around to face James and said, "That goes for you too," before strolling back up to me and gently stroking my face.

"Both Samantha and I have a lot of love for each other. We have decided to remain married. No matter how old we are, I was under the impression that you would be pleased for both of us, but it's clear that I was mistaken "He added as he took my hand and led me towards the entrance of the building. "Come on, beautiful girl, let's go," he murmured as he gently pushed me toward the door and followed closely behind me. "Come on," he urged again. "Let's go

I was startled when his hand was suddenly torn from mine, and when I turned around I saw him on the ground being punched by James. He yelled at him while punching him again, "You're not taking my daughter anywhere you stupid little punk," and then continued to punch him.

Henry quickly pushed him off without inflicting too much damage on him. I saw that other than the threat he made to Richard, he hadn't made any moves to assault anyone else; in contrast to our parents, he was securely in control of the situation. Henry grabbed my hand and hurried me to his car, taking our bags that we had taken to Vegas, which he had fortunately left on the porch steps. Our mothers were clutching to each other and crying when the incident occurred.

Before walking around to the driver's side, he made sure I was safely seated in the vehicle before tossing the items into the trunk and opening my door for me. The front door was slammed in the face by my mother, who was followed closely by Linda.

I opened the window in order to communicate with them "Wait! Where do you plan on going? Please refrain from leaving and stay so that we may discuss this; James will eventually come around "coming to look in my window, my mother added. At this time, Henry was inside the car.

"Mom, we can't talk to them while they're like that, look what he did to Henry!" I cried out to my mother while pointing to Henry's fast bruised face and split lip. "We can't talk to them while they're like that."

My mother broke down in tears as she consoled me, saying, "I'm so sorry, Henry, I can't believe James would do that to you, he loves you."

"Anika, don't worry about it; everything is great; nevertheless, we need to leave because I don't want Samantha to get too close to them when they're acting like way because she could get hurt." Henry screamed in rage as he glared aggressively in the direction of the home.

"But where do you intend to go?" Linda inquired as she was still crying.

Henry's statement, which lacked conviction, was, "We'll get a motel or something."

"Do you have any financial needs?" The question was posed by Linda as she reached into her pocket for some cash and displayed what appeared to be one hundred dollars.

Henry gave a sad smile to his mother as he shook his head and told her, "No, we're good. Thanks for the offer though, Mom."

"Please don't go," was the pleading plea she made.

My mother reached through the window and grabbed my left hand as she admired my rings. She remarked, with a smile on her face but tears lingering in her eyes, "They're wonderful honey, congratulations, both of you."

I said, "Thanks Mom, I'll call you fine," as I uncomfortably hugged her through the car window. "Okay, I'll call you."

My mother instructed my stepfather, Henry, to "take care of her for me."

He gave her a warm grin and said, "I will, I promise," in an earnest tone.

She smiled at us both and blew him a kiss before stepping back to allow Linda go closer to the window. "I know you will, you're a nice boy," she said as she blew him a kiss.

"Call me when you get to where you're going, don't let them drive you away please" she begged hugging me.

"We'll phone you tomorrow while they're at work to see if perhaps we might come over and pick up some of our clothes and other things," we said. Henry inquired with anticipation. The front door opened once more, and James and Richard started making their way down the drive to the car while arguing with each other. She nodded and seemed sorrowful during the exchange.

Henry yelled out to his mother, "We need to go, love you Mom," as he started the vehicle's engine. She moved backwards as Henry drove away from the driveway. When I turned around in my seat, I saw our mothers crying and hugging each other, yet they both had a smile on their faces. I waved, and then I simply burst into tears. James still appeared to be as furious as hell, and Richard appeared to be in a state of shock the entire time.

After a few minutes of driving, Henry pulled over and stopped the vehicle. He then unbuckled my seat belt, pulled me onto his lap, and pressed his forehead against mine. The contrite statement that he made was, "I am so sorry Samantha bear, I am very sorry." When I glanced at his lovely face, I noticed that his cheekbone was tinged with crimson, that he had a cut on the bridge of his nose, that he had purple shadows gathering under his eyes, and that his lip was split. I poked him in the face while hissing between my teeth, and although he winced slightly, he smiled to cover up the fact that he was uncomfortable.

Henry, my goodness, how are you doing? When I asked again while crying, he wrapped his arms around me and gave me a hug.

He expressed his sorrow by saying, "I'm alright, beautiful girl, I'm just very sorry that this happened."

I took a step back to get a better look at him. "Do you have any regrets about marrying me?" I inquired in a frantic manner.

Instantaneously, he gave a head shake. "I will never be sorry that I married you," he stated with complete sincerity. "Are you sorry you married me?" he questioned, obviously concerned about my response. "I will never be sorry that I married you," he added again.

I made a joke that made him laugh and said, "Well, the wedding night was a bit of a let down."

He gave me a short kiss but then swiftly pulled away. "Ouch," he exclaimed as he touched his lip.

I repositioned my head to face his and asked, "What are we going to do, Henry?" The tears were trickling down my face slowly when I asked him about them, and he kissed them away tenderly, despite the fact that it probably hurt him to do it.

He said, "Let's go get a motel or something, then tomorrow we'll go collect our clothes and whatnot, and we can start apartment looking," as if he were speaking casually about something that occurred on a daily basis.

His lip had started to bleed again little where he kissed me, and I leaned in and licked it. His blood, which had a metallic taste to it, touched my tongue, and in an odd way, it really tasted great. He whimpered slightly, and I jerked back fearing that I had injured him. He gave me a husky grin and said, "That was lovely, Samantha bear." As I leaned in closer to him and ran my tongue down his upper lip once more, he opened his mouth, reached his tongue out, and touched mine.

I got closer, but I was careful not to touch his lips as I sucked on his tongue. He slid his hands up my back and pulled me closer to him. I ran my hands through his unkempt blonde hair, and then I turned my head to look at him. This is my hubby. He was the only thing that I cared about enough that the thought of losing him made me cringe. It didn't matter what else happened in my life.

I heaved a sigh and added with a sad smile, "Okay, then come on, let's go check into a motel, we best stop and grab some something for your face because baby you look like a disaster." I was referring to her appearance.

He responded with self-assurance, "Yeah, but you still love me."

To joke about, I narrowed my eyes and remarked, "Hmm, I don't know, but I think my favorite part was your face." He laughed as I re-attached my seat belt and climbed back onto my seat after readjusting it.

After making a brief pit stop at the nearby drugstore, during which I ran inside to grab some cotton balls and some disinfectant for Henry, we continued on to our accommodation. We stepped up to the reception area, and the girl working there was eyeing Henry, despite the fact that he appeared to be in a bit of a worse state than usual. However, I have to agree that the cuts and bruises gave him a bad boy edge that really worked well on him.

Henry addressed her with a hello and inquired about the availability of a room.

She looked at me with an annoyed expression on her face as she responded, "Sure hon, you want two singles?"

He was humorous. "No, I believe that my wife and I would want a double if you have one, but I'm very confident that we could also manage with a single, right gorgeous girl?" he said winking at me. She gave me an impolite look as he payed for the room, and then she went back to undressing him with her eyes fixed on me while he was paying.

"He really plays up those bruises, doesn't he?" I mentioned that as she continued to examine him, she gave me another hostile look and then nodded.

She purred passionately at Henry and said, "He most certainly does. Normally I don't go for married guys, but for you I'll make an exception."
