Chapter 96

/Henry/

I took her hand and kissed the engagement ring that was still on her finger before grabbing the handle of the luggage. She had gone to get it for me but I was already there. The fact that she was being overly cautious despite the fact that it was a pull along and I wouldn't have to lift it anyhow indicates that she was being overly cautious.

On my way out, I said my goodbyes to every member of the staff, with the exception of the one nurse who I purposefully avoided being around because she was such a compulsive flirt. She was truly awful; she wasn't too horrible in front of Samantha, but in the evenings she boarded or sexually harassed other people.

As I went out of the front door for the very last time and made my way to Samantha's car, I found it impossible to suppress the smile that broke out on my face. She was tapping away on her phone compulsively, and the sight of pure joy on her face caused my heart to pound in my chest as I watched her.

Samantha served as our driver as we made our way back to her parent's home. We planned to remain there for some time so that I could continue to make some progress in my recovery. Because of the location of our apartment, which was on the second floor, Anika and James had volunteered to let us stay at their house for a month or two so that I would not have to walk up and down the stairs every time I needed to return home. It would appear that they turned one of the rooms on the ground floor into a bedroom for the two of us.

As we pulled there, I took a quick look at my parents' house, which was located next door. Because Samantha is Samantha, she was able to convince me to give them a second chance, even though I didn't really want to have anything to do with them anymore. I am aware that they did not do it on purpose; yet, I could not comprehend how it was possible for them to be unaware of the fact that it is something that I would have like to take place.

Samantha refused to provide me with specific details of what took place while I was in a coma; however, the core of the story was that my mother lied to the physicians about her age, claiming that she was seventeen, and that because of this, our marriage was invalid. I believe that there was more to it than that, and that Samantha was more upset with them than she let on; nevertheless, if she didn't want to tell me, then there was nothing that I could do about it. I think that Samantha was more upset with them than she let on.

I exited the vehicle while firmly gripping Samantha's hand and we walked away. I couldn't wait to have some quality time with just the two of us. I should have expected her to make me wait in order to get my hands on her, but at least she let me hold her as I slept tonight, which was something I was looking forward to.

I could wait for sex, and if she chose, she could make me wait for an indefinite amount of time. When we got married the first time, she fell asleep in the bar, so we didn't get to have a true wedding night. I was thinking about recommending that we wait until after we get married the second time, so that I can give her the wedding night she deserves.

As we approached the front door, she had an odd expression of excitement on her face. She opened the door for me and indicated that I should go in first with a nod of her head. As soon as I went into the room, everyone started cheering and clapping enthusiastically.

I ran a mile as fast as I could till I looked around and saw that all of our friends were gathering around, balloons were everywhere, and there were banners on the wall that said welcome home. As I realized what she was saying, her enthusiasm made me smile. She had planned a get-together to celebrate my return home after being away.

I couldn't help but giggle as I took her closer to me and kissed the crown of her head. She responded by giving me a bear hug while beaming with joy. Holy crap, I had the most wonderful gal in the whole wide universe!

Jerry and Daniel rushed over to where I was standing and embraced me, saying, "Hey man! At long last, you've been released! Jerry chuckled and wore an idiotic grin as he said.

When I turned to look around, I noticed that almost the entire football team was standing there, merrily eating, drinking, and laughing. It was a little overwhelming to think that so many people would come out for me, but it made me realize how many wonderful friends I have.

"Yep, it's about time." I hugged both of them back, still a little taken aback by the fact that they were all present; this was not at all something I had anticipated happening. As Jerry yanked me away to go get some dinner, Samantha winked at me and whispered that she loved me as she blew me a kiss while simultaneously blowing me a kiss. I

laughed and followed him over to the table where the junk food had been put out for us. All of my favorite foods were there, which demonstrated that she had gone to a great deal of effort and that I was a very fortunate man to have her.

My parents were also here, but all they did was greet everyone and tell them they were glad to be home before leaving to go back to their own residence. I believe they knew not to push it too far because they could probably sense that I wasn't ready for much yet, and I was grateful that they were giving me some time to figure out everything on my own terms. I think they knew not to push it too far because they could probably sense that I wasn't ready for much yet.

Additionally, James and Anika were present. As soon as I was able to break free of Jerry and Daniel's hold on me, I made my way over to them. I hugged Anika and then extended my hand to James, but instead of taking it, he drew me into a hug. They were very wonderful people, and they came to see me every other day at the center where I was staying.

Our relationship had been going pretty well over the past two weeks, and we got along really well. In point of fact, everyone had been wonderful, and some of my friends had even traveled to see me every weekend simply to offer moral support. Before everything went down, I didn't really appreciate how fortunate I was in some respects, but now I do.

"James, I was wondering if there was any chance we might talk in private about something." I asked. I needed to take care of something, and I wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible.

"Of course, Henry." Are you interested in going out on the porch or doing anything else?" He suggested, indicating the door on the side of the building.

"You got it, man!" I took a deep breath to calm myself as the sweat began to form on my palms. As I followed him out of the home, my friends asked me where I was going and I reassured them that I wouldn't be gone for long and would be straight back. As soon as we stepped outside, I felt the urgent need to sit down for a few minutes and immediately made my way to the porch swing.

James came up and sat down next to me, observing my every move with interest. "Henry, are you okay? Is there something wrong?"

In an effort to settle my anxiety, I gave a little shake of the head and rubbed my palm over my face. "No, I just need to ask you something and I'm a little anxious about it," I admitted, clarifying that my question was not about anything else.

He laughed and then touched my leg before saying, "Henry, you may ask me anything. What's going on?"

"Ok, so you know that I love Samantha, right?" I exhaled deeply before continuing. I started. He acknowledged me while maintaining a frown, as though he had no idea where I was headed with this discussion. "Look, I understand that we're still young, but I wanted to make sure that I could ask for your blessing to marry your daughter.

I am aware that I ought to have asked you earlier, and according to custom, I ought to have asked you a very long time ago, but I figure it's better to ask now than never, right? Since Samantha had informed me that he felt a little deceived the previous time, I couldn't help but feel awful about the fact that we had rushed out to get married.

He smiled and laughed, appearing somewhat relieved. "For a split second, you really had me worried there!" He leaned against the backrest of the swing and ran a hand through his hair as he relaxed. "Henry, I believe you and Samantha are destined for each other, and I couldn't wish for a better guy for her, I honestly couldn't.

I couldn't wish for a better guy because I know you and Samantha are perfect for each other. My one and only want for her has always been that she finds happiness in her life, and that you be the person who brings her that happiness. Again, he stroked my leg in a kind manner.

I couldn't help but grin as I asked, "So, that's a 'yes Henry, you can marry my daughter,'" and then, almost as an afterthought, I tacked on "Again."

He acknowledged her statement with a nod and said, "Yeah Henry, I'd be honored to call you my son in law......again."

I gave him a friendly smile and extended my hand to shake, feeling a wave of relief rush over my body. He had a broad grin spread across his face as he tightened his grip on my hand. "You're welcome, James. This time around, we won't be sneaking away. I want us to have our wedding right here, but this time in a church. "I'm sure Samantha would be thrilled if you gave her away to someone else," I told her.

He laughed and said, "I guess I'd best pull out the wedding money I've been paying into since the day I married Anika, huh?" He had been contributing to the fund ever since he had married Anika.

I couldn't help but smile when I realized he'd been contributing to Samantha's wedding fund all along. Even though she wasn't biologically his daughter, James treated his daughter like she was his own and I've never seen a more loving parent than James, so this didn't come as much of a surprise to me. In all honesty, James doted on his daughter.

I laughed and said, "I guess you'd better." It seemed a bit odd to me that he still hadn't released his grip on my hand, which I observed.

His expression became grave as he said, "Henry, I really do love you like a son." It's because I know how much you care about her that I'll give my blessing for the two of you to get married at such a young age. His eyes were fixed on mine, and the intensity of his gaze caused me to move uneasily on the swing as I was being watched by him. But if you hurt my daughter, I swear I'll kill you personally, understand? "But if you hurt my daughter, I'll kill you myself, understand?" he threatened menacingly.

Because he was acting in such a solemn manner, I had to force myself to keep a straight face while I nodded my head in agreement. “Absolutely. I swore to myself that I would never do anything to harm her.

James gave me a satisfied nod and then finally released his grip on my hand. His expression eased back into a smile, and I realized that the danger had passed. It was clear that he was only trying to protect his daughter, and I couldn't help but admire the man for doing so. For a moment, I wondered whether or not he loved Samantha as much as I did, but then I quickly dismissed the idea because it was impossible for anyone to love anyone else as much as I loved Samantha.

I expressed my gratitude by leaning back against the swing and said, "Thank you for allowing us to remain here," as I smiled broadly.

"It's great to have you back in our midst once more. You remain for as long as you feel necessary, okay? He did it once again, patting my knee.

I was about to respond when the screen door opened and the person I would spend the rest of my life with walked out, staring at us with an inquisitive expression. I gave her a friendly grin, and then she came over to join us, taking a seat in the middle of her father and I. She appeared concerned as she looked back and forth between the two of us and inquired, "Everything all right?"

I gave her a satisfied smile and nod while putting my arm around her shoulders and said, "Everything is wonderful, Samantha bear."

James got to his feet and planted a passionate kiss on the crown of her head. He gave me a cheery smile before saying, "Don't stay out here too long, you two. As he entered the home, he announced, "There's a party going on in there, folks came here to see you, Henry." The gathering was in response to Henry's presence.

Samantha brought her legs up to her chest and curled into me as I wrapped my arms more tightly around her. I couldn't help but let out a contented sigh as we continued to do nothing but sit on the swing for a short while, neither of us speaking as I held my daughter in my arms. Everything was perfect and just how it should have been.

Because everything was taken care of, there was nothing else for me to attend to or be concerned about. All that was required of me today was to take it easy, savor every moment, and commit every single second to memory.

Over the course of the previous two months, we had been arranging this event, and now it had finally arrived. Things had returned to normal at this point, including the fact that both my back and legs functioned normally and that we had moved back into our previous home.

I had just finished high school and would be starting the career of my dreams in exactly three weeks' time. It was going to be strange for Samantha to go back to school and for me to go to work. I was used to seeing Samantha throughout the day and every day, so this was going to be a significant change for both of us. Samantha's senior year would begin in a month. I had a feeling that it would just make us appreciate one another more when we did finally come back together, despite the fact that we had been apart for so long.

Jerry was standing next to me and making light-hearted comments about the fact that I could still back out of the deal and escape. However, I was aware that he was joking because he was aware of how deeply I felt about Samantha and how unlikely it was that we would ever be separated.
