"Misha,” I called my secretary as soon as I stepped inside my office.
She followed me with a notebook in her hand, getting ready to take down my notes.
“Can you check the profile of Ash Engineering Firm?” I said, sitting on my swivel chair, hoping that what Ethan told me isn’t true.
“Oh. That!” She smiled. “I already know that.”
Well, it’s no wonder since Misha is the best secretary in this office because she knows everything including issues and gossip. She’s been with me since I started working in our company. She was an intern before serving my mother and then I decided to just adopt her in my service because she is freaking efficient and I no longer need to think of my schedules.
“Do you want me to get it for you?” She motioned leaving to get back to her table for the files.
“No!” I stopped her. “Just tell me the name of the CEO.”
“Ezekiel Gray Holster Elizalde.” She simply said.
It was already enough for my heart to skip a beat. Just hearing his words already had an impact on me. What more if I will be seeing him again after years and after what I did to him and what happened to us.
I would lie if I tell you that there’s no more feelings because there still. I am just trying to move on and fool myself. I still love him and I don’t know how to undo it. Now, it seems like destiny is making a way for us to see again.
“Find out how his family is related to our family,” I told her.
My mother told me that she’s close to their family, yet I never knew it. I mean, we’ve been close to each other even before yet I don’t even know. I guess that is also my fault since I never attended parties related to our company, yet I should have known because I know Gray’s grandfather. Oh well, that’s too late now.
Damn! How can I say no to my mother? I should have listened while she was explaining so I would know who the hell is the CEO of the company. This might be the consequences of me not paying attention to our projects. Ugh! Why is this happening?
I told myself that I never want to go back again. Of course, that would include not seeing Gray again. I want to move on.
“That’s easy. I know that.”
“What can I say?” I smiled a bit even though I am already pissed and a bit happy at the thought that I will be seeing Gray again.
“So, what is it?” I asked.
“I heard that Mr. Elizalde’s father was your mother’s best friend and your grandmother was friends with his grandmother, too.” Misha stated.
Oh. What a nice and small world. Of course, I wouldn’t know that because my grandmother was already dead. So, that is the relationship. Even Ethan wasn’t aware. I smelled something fishy so I looked at Misha who was biting her lips.
“Tell me…” I urged her. I know the meaning when she bites her lips, it means she’s trying to conceal a secret. Well, she doesn’t know how to hide it from me. “What is it?”
“Mr. Elizalde’s father was your mother’s first love.”
I blinked. Woah! I didn’t expect that. Should I say like mother and like daughter. Damn! Although, they didn’t end up because my mother married my father who died in an accident when I was a little. So, they are really putting pressure on my mother and me as they merged into each other’s company when they got married. That is what I will be managing in the future.
What is this a sign? That Gray and I will not also end up together. Well, we already ended. What’s there to say, right? It’s not like we are going to get back the love that we deserve when we see each other. I didn't even know what to say when I met him.
I felt like he still hates me like he still hates Ethan.
“I see, that’s all.” I dismissed her when she came back.
“I already arranged your one-way ticket to the Philippines.”
“One-way ticket? Are you kidding me?” I raised my brows.
“It’s your mother's decision to buy you a one-way ticket for her to know that you will be able to finish your contract without going back. She also told me that I should be the only one to book your flight returning here.”
“Why did my mother think about it?” I curiously asked and paused.
Does she know it was Gray? I mean, I never told him about Gray. I just told him that someone broke my heart but I never mentioned Gray. From what I told her, she should be happy that I will be back home and not stay there. Who would want to stay in that place? I no longer have family left in there.
Lyuna and Dio already migrated to the U.S. after they got married last year, so I don’t have someone to actually visit there. I have friends but not totally friends that were for keeps.
I guess mother wanted to make sure that my work will not be affected when I saw the guy who broke my heart. Well, it’s too late because I will be working with the guy. What is more unfortunate is it was also the same guy she wanted me to know.
Duh! It didn’t work the first time, how could it work the second time?
“She was saying that in case you came across the guy who broke your heart,” Misha directly answered.
I rolled my eyes. My mother doesn’t even have an idea that it was the guy she was asking me to get to know.
How about Gray? Did he know about it?
I doubt that. If he did, then he probably won’t ask for me or our company. Was it his grandfather? Wait, he already owned it?
“That company, is the a new company?” I confirmed this with Misha.
She shook her head.
“It’s a subsidiary company of the main company. The difference is that the said company handles projects from Europe and Australia and it was the son of the owner of the whole company that manages it.”
I see. I nodded at Misha. So, that was it. It’s not his own company, well it would probably be given to him soon. I guess when Ethan left he was put into a position that required him to accept the responsibility of being a CEO when he doesn’t want it.
Speaking of Ethan, I don’t know if he’s still going back to manage their company. Damn that guy! If he hadn’t left with me, then, he would probably be the CEO and I don’t have to think about Gray.
“Okay, he’s the CEO right, so who’s the project engineer?” I asked.
“It’s still Mr. Elizalde. From what I’ve researched, he was the one who handles the big projects.”
I brushed my hair in frustration.
“Ugh! This is giving me a headache. What’s my plan for tomorrow?” I decided to change the topic.
“Your schedule for tomorrow was already cleared since you will be flying the day after tomorrow. Your mother wanted you to rest. I already packed all your things and made sure that everything you needed was already there.”
“Thank you!” I said, since I no longer want to think about it. Thinking about how I am going to face Gray is already too much.
“Have you packed your things, too?”
“I will not be flying with you.”
“What? Who’s flying with me to the Philippines?”
“Me.”
We both looked at Ethan when he came in.
“Time to go back home, hon.”
Indeed.
