Chapter WOLF — Chapter One Hundred and Ten

Hayley swallowed hard, her throat tight as she recognized the familiarity of that dark power. She stared at Jackson with distress filling her eyes, and looked at the twins shortly after, trying to calm her agitation.

— Something terrible has happened,— he whispered. — The balance has been broken yet again. Nature has been affected. The ancestors will react to this.

— I don't understand.

Hayley just fixed her fearful eyes on the twins before saying:

— They are coming!

ZOE LABONAIR

— Dear Diary, Mom woke up today more hysterical than usual. She blames her pregnancy hormones for her out of control.

Megan has been on my case for days asking me to parties and parties, she loves to have fun and dance. How can we be so similar and at the same time be so different? Meg is a great manipulator. Did I ever tell you about the pink streaks in my hair that she talked me into? I don't know how, but I loved the idea.

And since my sister is so hard— headed, I had no choice but to go to that party she was so excited to go to. Megan says I won't regret it, but I feel weird sneaking out. Yes, I know I'm old enough, but our parents are super— protective, and if they knew we were planning to go to a human party, Mum would definitely freak out, and now with Aaron's arrival so close, I'd rather she didn't. stress.

I couldn't deny Meg's invitation to the party, I just hope she doesn't waste my time.

Do you think she's still late? Megan was supposed to be ready fifteen minutes ago and here I am, waiting for my twin to finish applying her red lipstick to her lips. I've always admired Meg's boldness, but I've always been wary of acting like her. After all, we are physically alike, but we have opposite personalities. And I love her anyway, except when she keeps me waiting.

I hate delays!

Have I told you how much I love Uncle Dylan for giving me you? A diary is like a faithful friend and I'm glad I got you. It was a nice solace in my grieving period...but let's not talk about that.

As expected Megan still insisted on sorting out my outfit, I interfered but she won.

An above— the— knee navy blue dress with straps and silk. A pair of knee high heeled boots and a black jacket over it. I don't even need to mention that we are wearing similar clothes, what sets us apart is the color of the dress, mine is blue and hers is red. And of course, our hair.

Mine were dark and straight, with a few pink highlights and hers, dark with curls, with blonde highlights. Yes, we decided to change our look, many people still have difficulties in differentiating us.

Are we that much alike?...

— Zoe!

I looked up to find my sister staring at me impatiently.

— What is it?

— We're late!

I closed my eyes.

— Do you swear?

She snorted and shook her head, ruffling her perfectly curled curls and fingering the necklace around her neck, tapping her foot impatiently against the floor.

— You're the one who's late — I got up putting my diary on the bed, after having sealed it with my magic.

— And you keep writing in a diary,— he interrupted me with alteration. — You're eighteen!—

— Megan,— I scolded her loudly and pointed around. — Want to wake up the whole house?

She snorted and grabbed her black leather jacket.

— I can't understand why you still write in a diary. — He muttered against his will and I smiled sideways, running my fingers through the strands of my hair, taking out the smallest knots that had formed.

— I like it, Megan, and that's what matters,— I replied and she rolled her eyes.

— You're not my sister, you can't be.

I smiled at her words and decided to tease her.

— Do you know you're right?— I wonder every day how we can be sisters.— She raised an eyebrow. — It's clear that I'm prettier and smarter, how can we be sisters?

— Cretin!— He threw a pillow at me and I pressed my lips together, holding back a loud laugh. — We have to go,— she said, looking at her watch. — We're late!—

— It's your fault! — I muttered going to the window, opening the door. — Dad is going to kill us.

— We're not children anymore, Zoe,— she replied. — We're old enough to go to a party without having to ask permission.

— In this case we didn't ask permission or even let them know,— I muttered. — Mom will freak out if she finds out we're gone!—

— Don't be dramatic, Zoe.— He tapped my arm. — It'll only be a few hours, you'll see, before they wake up we'll be home.

— You're going to get us into trouble, Meg,— I replied, swinging my legs through the window. — I will kill you!

— You'll thank me.— I turned my face and saw her jumping out the window. — You are very straight, my sister. Gotta have some fun—we jumped off the roof at the same time and landed on the ground, looking around, seeing the wolves on guard.

— You're so wild,— she slapped me and I groaned. — Cow!

— Come on, Jaime is waiting for us.— He held my hand and our spells joined, making us invisible to human eyes. We ran quickly to the car where Jaime was waiting for us and as we got in, I faced them, panting.

— If we die, I'll kill you!

The wolf's laughter was loud in response, Megan greeted him with a kiss on the cheek and it didn't take long for Jaime to start the car, shooting through the streets towards the exit of my father's city, towards human territory. My twin turned on the car stereo and loud rock rumbled inside the vehicle, giving me headaches from the sound.

The journey to the final destination did not take long. My jaw nearly hit the floor when we got to the party my sister had forced me to attend.

— An underground nightclub, Megan?— I yelled at my sister, she just laughed and looked at me with eyes sparkling in the bright lights.

— You'll like it, I guarantee it, little sister,— he replied with another shout, pulling me through the crowd.

— This place is crazy!

I heard my wolf's muffled voice in my mind. I felt her restlessness, my senses were confused there, there were many human emotions in one place, it was becoming impossible to identify anyone in that stinky place of human hormones and sweat.

— How did you find this place?— I asked out loud as we reached the bar. Megan sat down on one of the benches, twirling around as she giggled and I rolled my eyes, taking a seat next to her.

— I have my contacts, love,— he teased and I shook my head.

— What do you want? — the bartender asked us and Megan gave an Alice in Wonderland cat smile. A shiver ran through my body.

— Bring me two martinis,— she ordered and I stared at her, mouth agape.

— Megan! You know I don't like these strong drinks.

— We're at a club, Zoe, not the sixth— grade dance,— he said wearily. — I told you before, you have to let go, have fun.

— I don't like that kind of fun,— I declared in a mumble. — How I wish I was home right now, eating popcorn and watching my series.

— In a little while you just need to tell me that you want to enter a convent — I faced her with raised eyebrows. — You look like a nun, Zoe, by the moon!—

— I'm more responsible than you,— I snapped and she rolled her eyes. The bartender arrived with our drinks and Megan took the glass, holding it up.

— A toast!

— Per?

She snorted through her nose.

— For our sisterhood!— I stared at her with boredom. — Come on, Zoe, show me you love me.

— With this?— I took the glass.

— Yes.

I laughed.

— Okay, here's to our brotherhood, sister,— I teased and she bumped our foreheads, nearly spilling her drink. Megan downed the glass once, my eyes widened. She grimaced and shook her head.

— Zoe!

I sighed and brought the cup to my lips, feeling the strong smell of that drink. Ignoring my senses that told me not to drink, I gulped down the drink that burned down my throat. I coughed a few times, feeling my head spin, and held on to the bar, listening to Megan's laugh.

— The party just started, baby!

(...)

I smiled when I saw how my sister loved to dance. She was on the floor with Jaime and was jumping excitedly all over the place, while singing the electronic music she was playing. Megan appreciated her freedom like no one else.

I shook my head, picking up the drink that had been sitting on my bar for almost an hour and sighed, Megan made me do crazy things. I brought the drink to my lips and took a sip. Unlike the other one, this one tasted smooth, sweet and delicious. I didn't have the slightest difficulty in drinking the entire contents of my body.
