AIDEN LABONAIR
I carried the burden of belonging to the Labonair lineage from my
birth.
When I was a child, I remember my father’s words
about the importance of our lineage, the responsibilities of a
Alpha to care and protect your pack, those who were under our
protection. My late father always made a point of teaching me the mottos
of our people and implanted in my soul the duty with my
family.
I was raised to become the next alpha of my pack, dying for
Then if necessary. I grew up being taught how to lead the wolves
fairly but firmly to contain rebels and protect the most
defenseless. But mainly, to always ensure safety and well
be of my family, those who shared my blood.
I couldn’t make mistakes, or my people would pay for mine
flaws.
I thought I’d have to carry that weight alone, even my sister
birth. The moment I held Hayley for the first time in mine
arms, that baby so small and helpless, a fierce feeling
was born in my heart, the duty to take care of my little sister, to be
your guardian, your best friend and your fortress. She was the best of
our family.
Hayley was born a free spirit, with a wild nature and
indomitable. And I loved her with all my heart, and would give my own
life for her without thinking twice. She was my responsibility, I would always put her above everything and everyone. And that’s why on the day of
rebellion, I killed for the first time to save her, to get her out of that
war zone and take it away from the chaos. I stained my hands
of blood for her, and I never regretted it.
When I looked at Hayley, I remembered the meaning of family,
as an eternal memory of what was taken from us, but as I
I knew everything would be okay.
Rebecca came into my life as a runaway hurricane, and in
First time I laid eyes on the fearless wolf, I knew it was
with her that I wanted to share my days until my death. Rebecca me
rejected, pushed me away and fought tooth and nail to keep me
away, but my love for the female always spoke louder, and while
She’d do anything to get me out of her life, but I’d fight for her.
Becky had traumas and fears caused by her wretched father,
but with much patience and calm, I showed you that my love
never hurt her, on the contrary, my only wish was to make her happy and
show that
there is still so little goodness in the world.
Hayley and Rebecca became my reason to keep fighting day
day after day, facing persecution, hunting and betrayals that we
followed since the rebellion that nearly decimated our species. For them,
I would be able to walk through the flames of hell.
A gentle touch on my shoulder brought me to reality. I turned to
head and Rebecca appeared beside me, running her arm through mine
body, brought her closer and held her tight against my
body and kissed her hair. The smell of my companion mixed
with our puppy penetrated my senses, making me breathe deeply.
— They’re leaving in a few minutes— Becca informed me in a low voice.
Locked my jaw, tension radiating through my muscles as I watched
by the balcony of my room, the wolves preparing the cars for the
departure from Jackson and Hayley to different destinations but with the
same purpose to help our people. My sister was giving the
guys and facing our enemies while I hid like
a fucking coward.
Is that what you want to teach your son? Running from yours
responsibilities? To be controlled by fear and act as a
coward?
Hayley’s harsh accusation shot into my mind. She didn’t measure her
words, but deep down, my sister was right to be angry with me
for my reluctance to fight for our pack.
But by the moon! How could I neglect the safety of mine
partner and our cub by launching her into that danger in trying
claim my rank as Alpha of the Crescents? That would put a target
behind Rebecca’s back.
— You know you should go along with her— Rebecca continued.
— My duty is to you and our cub.
Becky rolled her eyes furiously, her gaze was a mixture of
understanding and rebuke. She turned to the motorcade.
— Since I accepted your claim, I knew I’d have a price
in the future.
I frown at it.
— What are you talking about?
Rebecca let out a deep sigh that shook her shoulders.
— You are one of the last remaining Pure wolves of the Labonair lineage, and
is the lost Alpha of the Crescents. Aiden, there are responsibilities that
accompanied you throughout your life. I knew of yours
obligations, and yet I accepted it in my life.
A tightening has come to my throat.
Why are you telling me this?
She hesitated.
— I know you blame yourself for the death of our young, the three losses
that we had due to the chaos that haunted us.
Rebecca’s voice trembled as she spoke. I squeezed her tighter in mine
arms, wishing to take away that fog of sadness that took the face of
my partner.
— And I also know I wasn’t strong enough to hold your baby, it was
my duty as your companion...
A growl left my lips.
— Don’t blame yourself! — grunted at her. — Neither of us were to blame for
that wove.
Rebecca shuddered in my arms and shook her head as if
wanted to take the bad memories out of your mind.
— I’m afraid of losing that baby too— barely heard his voice. — Not only
for you, but I don’t know if I could handle losing the fourth cub. This
Loss would destroy us, Aiden.
I ran my hand through my partner’s brown hair. She turned
the face to face me, and the sun lit her bright green eyes.
I wondered if our son would inherit his mother’s eyes, if he were a
girl and had her temper, I’d be screwed, but would be the
happiest male in the world to be able to hold the fruit of my love for
Rebecca.
— If you asked me days ago if I agreed to leave you
leave to claim his post with the Crescents, I would be selfish and
I’d say no. However, after what happened with Hayley and the
lost, my thoughts changed.
I licked my lips, but I kept hearing her talk.
— I learned that the world was a dark and gloomy place, that
there was more faith in humanity. But you and your love could change
my way of seeing the world.
I held the urge to kiss her right there. Rebecca rested her hand on
my chest, where my heart beat hard.
— The Crescents have been cursed, Aiden, your people are going through
a bad, dark phase, and you’re the last hope of a pack that
was destroyed, but that can be restored.
I took my hand to the face of my beautiful and intelligent partner.
— Just as you brought me the light, I ask you, be the guide your people need to get out of the darkness. You are a Labonair, Aiden, and I want
that our cub knows that we don’t leave our own behind.
With my heart racing, I held Rebecca’s face and sealed our
lips, kissing her deeply. She softened in my arms,
corresponding to the passionate kiss. And when I walked away, I pulled over
my forehead in hers, seeking to catch my breath.
I need to protect you.
I felt a smile rising on her lips.
— They never taught you that a female does not need the protection of a
male?
I let out a faint laugh, and left a kiss on Becca’s forehead, inhaling her
sweet smell.
— What if I fail them like I failed Hayley?
Rebecca took my hand and led to her womb where our baby
grew strongly.
— We believe in you, and we’ll be together to the end.
I left Rebecca in our room and tried to say goodbye to Hayley, but
my sister was furious with me, and I would not take away her reason. She
believed in me, and I let her down. Wouldn’t make the same mistake
again, especially with so much at stake.
Give her a break.
Jackson appeared beside me, watching the car disappear on the road.
I rubbed my hair, apprehensive.
I will not abandon my people and my sister.
Jackson arched his eyebrows, crossing his arms as he stared at me.
— Have you changed your mind?
I scratched the back of my head.
— Rebecca helped me open my eyes.
Jackson almost smiled at me.
— Who would have thought the female had her on a leash.
I will squint at your provocation.
You say that like my sister didn’t tame you, Supreme.
This time, Jackson couldn’t help but let a laugh
escape. He shook his head in denial.
— Before Hayley, my life was cold, dark and lonely. Now, there’s heat,
light and joy. Your sister brought me this.
Have you told her?
— What?
Who loves her, of course, anyone can see that.
Jackson stared at the horizon, thoughtful.
— Not yet.
I snorted out loud.
— And why not? If it’s pride, I swear I’ll punch your face off
the pride of your being.
Jackson closed his leather jacket when cold morning winds
hit us.
I’m waiting for the right moment.
It was my turn to roll my eyes.
— You two piss me off with all this fuss about confessing
feel for each other.
Jackson issued a slap with his tongue.
— I love your sister, Aiden, and no force in the world will be able to
change that.
I smiled at the Supreme Court and punched him in the shoulder.
— If you make her unhappy, Supreme, no force in the world will be able
to protect you from my rage.
Jackson looked at me with fun, but agreed with me.
— If I ever make Hayley suffer, I’ll let it beat me until
I lose my senses.
With a smile on the corner of my lips, I returned to the house, to my partner’s arm, and told her that very soon I would return to our old home and take back what was stolen from me.
