Chapter WOLF — Chapter Ninety-six

He spat out blood.

Go to hell, bitch.

The vampire screamed in pain, I turned my face and Madison had charmed him, she

boiled his blood mercilessly.

— I’ll ask one last time. Where are the Crescents?

He was reluctant, refusing to say, but when the witch shook hands,

threatening to blow his head off, words trickled down his

mouth.

— The wolves are in the Bayou.

I blinked, satisfied, and let the witch finish killing the parasite. The

head rolled across the floor. I wiped the blood on my hand while

Isaac gathered the dead bodies of the vampire so that Clary

turn to ashes.

— Bayou?

— I know where it is— revealed Isaac. — Not far from here.

I closed my jacket, hiding the blood stains.

Let’s go before more vampires show up.

Hayley? The beta called me.

— Yes?

Isaac crossed his arms.

— You know we just declared war on vampires, no know?

I remained indifferent to it.

— The time that vampires ruled the city is over. I am

back to reclaim the territory of my pack.

We left the restaurant after Clary set the dead bodies on fire.

We ignore the curious looks of tourists to see the establishment in

flames, however, we continue our journey to the Bayou, the

place where my pack was trapped.

— I’m wondering why I agreed to come to this end of the world—

murmured Clary grumpy as she soiled her mud boots as she stepped into the swamp

damp.

Isaac shot her with his eyes.

I don’t remember inviting you.

Clary spit out profanity, making a vulgar gesture in response to the wolf. Madison was strangely quiet and pale.

I approached the witch.

Are you all right, Mad?

The witch faked a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

— I will survive.

I stood in her way, preventing her from continuing to walk. Clary and

Isaac left us alone for a moment.

— What’s the matter with you?

She pressed her lips, avoiding my gaze.

I don’t want to look like a sentimental fool.

I would never think that of you.

Madison hugged, trying to protect herself from the cold of the night.

— It’s just that Jack has always protected me from everything, you know?

Having witnessed that attack of vampires left me a little scared, but nothing I

cannot overcome.

I licked my lips, waving in understanding.

— If you want to go back and stay in the car, I’ll understand.

Madison quickly denied it.

No, I don’t want to run away like a coward.

— Retreating when it is necessary is not synonymous with cowardice.

Madison poked her black hair stuck in a ponytail on top of her head.

— I don’t want to run away, I want to stay and help you pack. I finally

I’m using my magic for something useful, to save someone, I won’t

miss this opportunity to do something good with that power.

I gave the witch a weak smile.

— The Crescents will be eternally grateful for your help, I will be grateful to you.

Madison smiled lightly, highlighting the lovely dimples in her

cheeks.

— You made my brother smile. Jack is happy by your side and that’s enough

for me.

A shot broke the silence, interrupting us. Clary and Isaac returned

to my side quickly.

— What was that? — Madison asked, widening her blue eyes.

I narrowed my eyes as I looked into the dark forest, sharpened my hearing,

trying to focus on some movement. That’s when the smell of silver

polluted the air, accompanied by a low bark of pain. My heart

weighed when thinking about the possibility that some Crescent wolf was

wounded, or worse, dead.

The hunters are here.

Isaac cursed, rubbing his hair.

— We need to split up to save the number possible of wolves.

— Split us up? — The strained question came from Madison.

— The hunters are scattered throughout the forest, we will only have chance

to end all of us separating.

Isaac stared at Madison, seeing the affliction on her face.

You stay with me, little witch.

She stiffened, opening the door to loosen some splinter, but shut up

when another shot echoed through the forest, approaching the beta. Clary

twisted in place, yearning for more action, apparently

turning vampires to ashes was not enough to appease the fury of Kitsune.

I’ll see you soon.

Clary and I took the path to the right, then separating.

Madison and Isaac ran in the opposite direction, disappearing between the

trees. Kitsune’s scent still chased me when I shot through

forest where the silver trail was still fresh in the air. The silver light of the

moon was the only source of illumination that cleared my way, but

with my keen senses, I could feel familiar with the place.

Those wolves were my pack, my family, those that mine

parents died to protect. And I would not allow any

Crescent would suffer another second at the hands of the hunters.

I stopped running when I came across a hunter, he had a crossbow

hands with silver arrows and did not see me arrive, I hit him with a kick

on his back and his body hit the ground.

The scream he gave attracted his companions, and it was a matter of seconds until I was surrounded by three more hunters.

A growl escaped my lips as I advanced against the

hunters. I jumped on the first, breaking his arms into pieces and

jumped on another, leaving him unconscious with a stroke in

head. There was nothing human or rational in me when I killed the

third hunter, without hesitation, knowing there was the blood of my people in your hands.

I continued walking through the forest, ending every hunter who

came my way, didn’t care about the blood that stained

my body, or the cries of pain that were swarming in my head.

I didn’t try to deny who I was or repress my murderous nature.

I was a wild animal, a predator, a bloodthirsty monster. And

those hunters became just dead bodies on the ground.

I still walked through the forest, weariness and exhaustion consuming all

my body. I hadn’t heard the sound of gunfire, which meant

that the threats of the hunters had been neutralized, they did not

would be more of a risk to the wolves, at least for now.

We were safe that night. And the only thing I wanted was

a few hours of rest.

However, one last survivor came in front of me with a

gun aimed directly at my head. Despite the fatigue,

I gathered the strength I had left to finish that stupid hunter.

However, a growl broke the silence. I just had time to

blink when a gray wolf jumped on the hunter’s back and

Snapped his neck, killing him right in front of me.

After killing the human, the wolf turned towards me with

blood dripping from his mouth full of sharp fangs. I lingered

even a second to assimilate the presence of that creature. The wolf

was a Crescent, I could feel that magical bond that held us together,

He belonged to my pack.

I kept calm so as not to frighten him and raised my hands, me

slowly approaching.

I know this sounds crazy, but I’m a Crescent wolf.

He snorted through his snout, scratching the earth with his paws.

I let my wolf take over, and she took over quickly.

My eyes shone like headlights in the darkness of the night, showing the

wolf my true identity, no matter the risks. The

His eyes sparkled in a familiar yellow and I smiled, unable to

restrain me.

I was surprised when the wolf simply bowed in front of me, recognizing me.

— My name is Arabella Labonair, I am the daughter of Mikael and Ellen and I came

help you to be free.
