Chapter 41 : The Parliament Member's Fury

41: The Parliament Member's Fury

A beautiful vase was smashed to the ground by a pair of hands, producing a crisp shattering sound.

Accompanying the crisp sound of the vase breaking, a man's angry voice echoed through the enormous room.

"Trash! A bunch of trash!"

It was a man dressed in a proper suit, about forty years old, with thick black hair combed quite neatly, and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses on his nose that added a touch of elite atmosphere to him.

But this elite was currently in a furious rage. In front of him stood dozens of black-clothed security guards with their heads lowered, not daring to make a sound. These guards didn't dare look up, afraid that their actions might make this important figure even more furious.

"What did I hire you people for? To freeload? That important item—how many times have I mentioned it to you? You actually let someone steal it right under your noses!"

"Each and every one of you—where are your eyes? Blind? Your ears? Deaf? If I hadn't received a call from the Hero Association, I would have thought some poor bastard had their house broken into!"

"Turns out, that poor bastard is me! Me!"

The man grabbed a cup from the table and smashed it on the ground. Another innocent piece of furniture left this world.

The ceramic fragments on the ground were countless. This person's anger was truly quite vigorous—for three full hours, he still hadn't finished cursing.

"You all, go investigate this for me right now. Within three days, I want to know who the criminal is, or else every single one of you can get lost!"

"Yes!" The guards finally found something they could respond to. They straightened their backs and shouted with full vigor.

"The Hero Association will send people to assist with the investigation. You know what to do." The man turned around, leaving the guards with an unfathomable silhouette. "This is my, Wang Ziwen's, business. It's not their turn to interfere."

"Understood!"

"Hurry up and go." Wang Ziwen waved his hand, dismissing this group of guards.

After everyone in the room had completely left, Wang Ziwen's gaze turned toward a corner of the room. "What, do I need to invite you out?"

"That won't be necessary to trouble Parliament Member sir with your great presence. This old one can come out myself." An aged voice responded, and a hunched old man slowly emerged from the darkness. "The transaction had an error."

"I know. That book is now in someone's hands, which is truly infuriating." Wang Ziwen viciously punched the wall. "How are your people so unreliable? They couldn't even find the right contact person."

Old Eagle laughed coldly a few times. "Ghost Shadow was personally designated by you, Mr. Wang. This old man won't take responsibility for this mess."

"You're saying this is all my fault?"

"What's the point of discussing whose fault it is now? The item is gone, and that lovely client young lady won't listen to our explanations." Old Eagle said noncommittally. "I'm just a middleman. At worst, I won't take that bit of commission, but Mr. Wang, you seem to be quite in need of that young lady's sponsorship, don't you?"

Wang Ziwen's expression worsened considerably. The old man's words had indeed hit his sore spot.

For Old Eagle, the failure of this transaction wasn't a big problem. The things he handled had no low possibility of failure.

After all, if those things could succeed one hundred percent, that would be hell.

An occasional failure couldn't cause him substantial impact.

But Wang Ziwen was different. He was willing to risk such great danger to trade with the Demon Realm precisely because he needed the compensation the Demon Realm would provide.

If this transaction failed, he would surely be doomed.

"Give me some time. I'll find the item back." Wang Ziwen said, feigning composure. "You didn't come here just to make sarcastic remarks, did you?"

"I came to provide you with some help. After all, it's a big deal, and I don't want it to fail in my hands, at the last moment." Old Eagle didn't hide his intentions. "I'll provide you with intelligence support, but the commission needs to increase by ten percent."

"You really are asking for the moon. Twenty percent isn't enough, you want thirty percent?"

"That's not right to say. I could very well sit to the side and watch you bustle about, but out of goodwill, I came over to provide you with some help. You couldn't find someone as selfless as me even with a lantern." Old Eagle laughed heartily.

"People in the underworld really weren't wrong—you old bastard really are shameless." Wang Ziwen chuckled. "Since you want more, then let me see if you can provide help that matches those things."

"Good, good. With the Parliament Member's word, I'm relieved." Old Eagle clapped his hands and laughed. "Ghost Shadow will also come to assist you later. He'll take you to where those two people appeared. I hope Parliament Member sir will achieve immediate success."

"Then I'll take your auspicious words." Wang Ziwen's expression was displeased. The greed of the old man in front of him disgusted him greatly, but he had no other choice.

Now he could only mobilize all the power he could command to find that book back and complete the transaction. Otherwise, his position as Parliament Member might not be secure.

This matter was of great importance and could not fail.
