Chapter 49. ADJUDICATION

An actual arrest warrant arrived on Luke's fourth day in the hospital. However, because his condition was still connected to an IV line, they couldn't take Luke away unless they watched him several times a day. It seems, that also finally made the emotions that had been stored up, finally exploded without a definite direction. Forget it to friends with harsh words and actions.

Luckily, they've forgiven Luke . Now the trouble returns to Luke and the Bowleans. It's like time playing back in time.

Irritating. But, Luke can't do anything because everything is his fault.

The day after Luke's return home, two officers took him to the police station. This time, Ben was no longer angry and Ulfa was no longer crying.

For the second time, Luke was in the interrogation room and for the second time, Luke met Joyce Welch.

"We meet again, Luke."

"Hi."

he smiled. "I waited for a message from you, but you never contacted me."

"I forgot where I put his business card. Sorry."

"Fine. Forget it. In a moment, Jacob will be coming to interrogate you. Can you not just stay quiet like the last time you were here?"

Luke shrugged. Feeling doubtful.

" I'm not sure, Joyce. I'm not sure they will believe my story. Maybe you or others will think that I'm crazy. I don't know. I'm afraid…"

Luke 's voice drowned in his own palms. Luke is honest about this. Luke is scared. Luke is worried. Luke suspects that everyone will just sneer at him.

Joyce squeezed Luke's shoulder gently. Still smiling kindly but strengthening.

"Luke, I understand that you may be traumatized or frustrated by what you did. However, you can't just stay silent. Speak according to your version and let them , the investigative team, find out the truth. There are always two different sides to a story, but there will always be a thread that connects. You know? Not everyone understands someone's silence. Explain in your own way, calmly and carefully. Don't be nervous because it could mess up your speech or make you say things that aren't important. Remember, I'm there here to help you. No need to feel pressured. Do you understand, Luke?"

"Fine. I understand, Joyce. I'll try ."

"I'm pleased to hear it."

Shortly thereafter, a police investigating officer who introduced himself as Jacob Hawk, stepped in front of me and began the interrogation. Standard questions like those of the first interrogation came up, as well as some very deep questions

"So how is your relationship with the Bowleans brothers?"

"Not close. We're not even friends."

"You mean you two are enemies?"

"Not really. It's just, yeah, we don't really know each other. To be honest, we don't really know each other and we never say hello."

"Okay, so how did you know Patricia Bowleans? Was she popular enough at school?"

"You could say that. Me and Patricia Bowleans are in the same year. She's quite popular, like her big brother. But, yeah…" I shrugged. Avert views.

"Why?"

"She, Patricia Bowleans, annoys the kids at school. Especially the kids who don't seem like they're going to fight back at all."

"You mean he's a bully?"

"You can say that."

"So that's why you broke his arm?"

"I don't… I…"

"Fine. But does he bother you too?"

"Not."

" And why ?"

"At first, he bullied the new boy from the class next door. His name is Suzurao. Rei Suzurao."

"Disturbing what kind?"

Luke paused to recollect.

"I don't know how it started, but when I found out, Patricia and her friends had put the girl in the trash can. Her body was also injured."

"And his friends?" Officer Jacob repeated his words, "So Patricia didn't bother alone?"

Luke shook his head.

"Who are his friends. Do you know?"

"Erm… Anne, Sara, Jane? I don't know ."

"Okay. Now you can tell me. How was the timeline when you injured Patricia Bowleans?"

"I already answered during the interrogation."

"Yeah, I want to hear it again. Do you mind if you tell it one more time?"

I nodded.

"That… actually I didn't mean to break his hand. That morning, Rei Suzurao and I left to be escorted by Ben…"

"You mean Ben Bright? Your own grandfather?"

"Yes. I was escorted by grandfather and met Rei on the way, then we offered him to get into the car. When we arrived at school, Rei and I were walking in the hallway. Then, suddenly someone splashed water from the second floor. The target was Rei , but I still got a little wet."

"And that's why you're angry?"

"Not really. At first I was annoyed with the kids who took out their phones instead of reprimanding Patricia…"

"Sorry to interrupt you. But, why don't you think anyone has reprimanded Patricia?"

"They're scared."

"Why are you afraid?"

"Scared that Patricia would tarnish their reputation, terrorize her, or report it to her older brother, Adam. After all, they're the brother and sister to be feared at school."

"You don't look scared though, Bright."

"Scared. A little afraid of Patricia but very afraid of Adam. Actually from the start. I didn't want to get involved with Patricia so as not to be disturbed. But after seeing her being mean to Rei, that's where my courage came in. I fought her. I stood up for Rei."

"Ah, okay. I understand now. Now, please continue your story about the splash of water."

"So no one's reprimanding Patricia, it pisses me off sir . Her discrimination is so outrageous. I absolutely can't allow that. Then, I feel really angry. I climb the stairs and intend to slap whoever comes within range first." my hand, and it looked like it was Patricia. Then they hit me."

"Who hits first."

"Patricia. She also kicked me several times. Then, there was one moment where I managed to grab her wrist. I, who was still very angry, squeezed Patricia's hand until her bones broke."

"What is squeezing? Can you give an example?" Officer Jacob extended his wrist to Luke .

"Like this, sir ."

Luke took the hand and rehearsed the situation on the scene. With one hand, Luke pressed down on Officer Jacob's wrist with all his might. So strong to the limit that Luke felt his face heat up and his veins bulge on the verge of exploding. It didn't take long for Luke to let go. gasping for breath. Tired too, it turns out.

"How's Jacob? Are your bones safe?" she asked.

Officer Jacob waved his hands and massaged his own wrists. Replied, "Yeah, your grip is quite firm too, son. I'm numb. But, it just won't break my hand."

"Maybe it's because you have thick flesh, Jacob. That's why this reconstruction can't be done. Well, what if you did it for me too, son? Maybe it would have turned out differently. Here ."

Like her partner Jacob, Joyce extended her wrist to Luke . At first Luke hesitated. Maybe the failure on the first try was because Jacob's flesh was too thick, but what if when Luke practiced it on Joyce's wrist then his bones became the same fate as Patricia's bones; broken.

"I don't want to. I don't want to be responsible if you break your arm. Two cases have frustrated me enough lately." Luke refuses.

But he said "Yeah, if you don't try it, we 'll never know the truth, Luke. Do you want people to think the hand bone wrecker? No, do you? Well, so now try it on my wrist."

Luke 's nose and Luke thought for a moment. Some of the sentences just now seem true. If Luke didn't try, how could he know if it was that easy to break someone's hand bones? After all, Joyce's body is also not much different from Patricia's. So after much hesitation and contemplation, Luke took the wrist and started squeezing it as hard as Luke could.

"Aw…!"
