Chapter 68

We gave Professor two rooms inside the mansion to use as his lab, and Derick took charge of acquiring all the equipment and supplies he needed. The mansion transformed into one of the largest and most advanced labs in the world, ready for Professor to commence his work. Time was of the essence, as the blood moon loomed only ten days away.

Derick's phone interrupted our preparations with a call from the police. They informed him that Blake had been summoned for questioning but denied any involvement in the incidents. Despite their efforts, the police were still searching for concrete evidence. Derick mentioned that Blake would never admit to his crimes, even if presented with irrefutable proof. With that in mind, Derick decided to request the closure of the case regarding his burned-down company.

I questioned Derick's decision, wondering why he would choose to let Blake off the hook. He explained that as a werewolf, Blake would never allow himself to be held captive by humans. Trying to destroy him through conventional means would be futile. I wrapped my arms around Derick, understanding his perspective.

Just as we embraced, Professor cleared his throat, drawing our attention. He had entered the room, and it seemed he had overheard our conversation. Without missing a beat, Professor asked about the whereabouts of Anita's wolf corpse. We were taken aback, unsure of how he had come by that information. Derick and I exchanged puzzled glances, and before we could respond, Professor scoffed at our surprise.

Professor explained that if we could obtain the corpse, he could test his chemical mixture on it to observe the effects. Derick informed Professor that the corpse was in the possession of the police and out of our reach. Disappointed, Professor shook his head and questioned Derick's capabilities as an Alpha. He challenged Derick, asking why he couldn't outsmart mere humans and retrieve the corpse.

With that, Professor turned and walked back into his lab, leaving Derick and me standing there, contemplating his words. It was clear that Professor possessed a sharp intellect and had his own methods of achieving results. Derick and I exchanged determined looks, realizing that if we were to succeed in our mission, we needed to think outside the box and utilize every resource available to us.

The next day, we paid a visit to the police station under the pretense of discussing the progress of the investigation. While Derick engaged in conversation with the officers, I discreetly searched for an opportunity to access the evidence room. With a stroke of luck, I spotted an unattended door leading to the restricted area.

Sneaking inside, my heart raced as I navigated through the maze of shelves and file cabinets. Finally, I located the compartment holding the evidence related to Anita's case. Carefully, I retrieved the whereabouts of her preserved corpse, wrapping the documents securely in a black bag.

As I made my way back to Derick, a surge of excitement and determination coursed through my veins. We finally had the key to Professor's experiments, and with these documents, we would locate the morgue Anita corpse was.

Returning to the mansion, we presented the documents to Professor, who greeted us with a triumphant smile. And we explained to him that we would visit the morgue the next day to get Anita's corpse. Professor wasted no time in preparing his chemical mixture, his hands moving with precision and expertise. As the concoction took shape, anticipation filled the air. We watched, hopeful yet anxious, for what the results would reveal.

Finally, Professor unveiled the finished product, a vibrant blue liquid pulsating with energy. Carefully, he explain that once we applied the mixture to the wolf corpse, and study the effects intently. The liquid will seeped into the fur, and a faint shimmer will enveloped the body. By then we can held our breath, and wait for the transformation that would shows what will happen once the chemical touch our enemies.

And before our eyes, we would see how the wolf's fur will began to change, its color will be shifting from black to a deep crimson. The transformation will continued, and as the last vestiges of the blue liquid will disappeared, the wolf's eyes will opened, gleaming with an otherworldly intensity.

Then the wolf skin will started peeling alive, till the wolf died. In that moment, Derick and I would know that Professor's experiment had succeeded.

The next day, without wasting any time, Derick and I headed to the address of the morgue to retrieve Anita's corpse. As we approached, we noticed Blake leaving the premises. I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. What was Blake doing here? Could he be attempting to take Anita's corpse?

Derick swiftly parked the car, and we hurriedly made our way into the morgue. The attendant at the entrance inquired about whom we were looking for. We explained that we needed to check on a relative's corpse. The attendant informed us that someone else would attend to us as he had just been fired and was on his way out. Derick and I exchanged puzzled glances, wondering what was happening. Before we could inquire further, the attendant abruptly left, leaving us standing there in confusion.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from one of the rooms, wearing a morgue uniform. It was Mia, wearing a sly smile on her face. She asked us what we wanted. Derick and I were taken aback, unable to comprehend why Mia was working at the morgue. I asked her what she was doing there, but Mia dismissed my question, claiming it was none of my business. Derick scoffed, expressing his disbelief again, that Mia had stooped to such a level and was now working for his rival pack.

Mia chuckled, blaming Derick for everything and claiming that it was his fault she had been banished from the pack. She questioned why she shouldn't work for his rival pack when he himself had a member of another rival pack working for him. Derick shook his head in exasperation, realizing the depth of Mia's betrayal.

We informed Mia that we were there to see Anita's corpse. She requested a permission letter from the police, implying that without it, we would not be allowed to see the body. Derick, growing increasingly frustrated, approached the door, locked it, and his eyes transformed into a menacing glare while his fang fingers extended. With an air of fury, he advanced towards Mia, gripping her throat tightly. Mia's fear was palpable, as she too extended her fang fingers, but it was clear that she was no match for Derick's power.

With Mia momentarily incapacitated, Derick motioned for me to find Anita's corpse and retrieve it. I dashed into the adjacent rooms, my heart pounding with a mix of determination and sorrow. Among the rows of lifeless bodies, I finally located Anita. Summoning the strength within me, both human and wolf, I lifted her lifeless form with utmost care, carrying her away from the chilling confines of the morgue.

Derick released his grip on Mia, issuing a stern warning that next time he would not show her mercy. Mia collapsed to the floor, coughing and gasping for breath. We swiftly exited the morgue, leaving behind a stunned Mia, who now bore witness to the consequences of her betrayal.

As we drove away from the morgue, Anita's lifeless body lying beside me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of triumph mixed with sorrow. We had obtained what we came for.
